W H Smith used to be a great store in Barrow, it opened as Menzies and was based over two floors, it was then taken over by Smiths, but for a long time kept the two floors, with the bottom being dedicated to books and the top was all videos, cds and general music related items.
Then the top floor was closed and a very reduced music and film section was moved downstairs, it was reduced so much that it is barely worth having now, the film selection is basically the top ten films, with a couple of shelves for older films, and boxed sets.
The book section is also poor compared to what it used to be, but it still sells a wide range of books for every taste. read more
