Excellent cocktails and booze selection. Bar food is super mediocre. Stuff you can put together at home super quickly. I opted for the cheeseburger. Drinks are good though and super convenient in the hotel. I would add a few stars if they actually put a bit of effort into the food quality. A few friends and I went into WXYZ lounge to sit and get caught up. We started at the bar with a very well made margarita, then felt we wanted to order some appetizers so moved into the lounge area. The gal who made us our drink then served our food was very delightful. Food was decent and fair priced. Atmosphere was very relaxing. We were there from 5-6pm and there was a small crowd, but when we walked by later about it was very packed and pretty loud. Would stop in for a cocktail and appetizer again. read more

Oh gosh. First I have to say that the bartender was very nice and accommodating. The hotel and staff are also welcoming. The room is simple but yet comfortable. However, unfortunately the food is the weakest point of this place. I was so worried I was going to get sick after eating the food. I had arrived late and everything around was closed so I ate my dinner here. I should have figured out that price of the food seemed reasonable but the quality was poor. The food tasted old. This is a snazzy bar, located right off the lobby of the Aloft! The colorful LED lighting and pulsing music make it seem like a fun place to grab a drink, and maybe strike up a conversation with folks passing through Portland. Although we are locals who live quite close by, I could see my wife and I coming here to grab a cocktail some evening when the neighborhood dive bars are just not cutting it for us, and we're not feeling up to heading into downtown. Gonna have to come back and check it out sometime soon, but as far as ambiance goes, it looks like a winner! read more

I've always liked their decor. It's those little division of little nooks and crannies that I find inviting. Pick a spot and hang on to it. Some nights they're busy some nights just enough to give you a sweet break to enjoy a cozy chat and to enjoy your drink. The bartender here is awesome. That's a good sign! read more

My friend wanted to grab happy hour near the airport before her flight back home. We noticed there really aren't a lot of happy hour options in Cascade Station. We didn't want to settle for a chain restaurant, i.e. Famous Dave's, Red Robin, so we sought help from the Yelp app. W XYZ has a four star average & I don't see how that's possible unless happy hour & eating are the last things people come here for. First, I was surprised to read such a short menu of food & drink items. Also, draft beer & well drinks for $5 doesn't seem like happy hour to me. As we walked in we noticed how unappealing the tots ($4) & chips & salsa ($4) looked from other customers having ordered them. Then to see the only other option to choose was hummus & pita was slightly disappointing. We each opted for a $5 glass of wine & to share the hummus & pita for $4. Just "hummus & pita" written on the happy hour menu is deceiving. It's more than just hummus & pita. There's a decent portion of carrot sticks, celery, & Kalamata olives, too. We also received complimentary almonds from the bartender. Not realizing there was more to the hummus & pita, we also each ordered grilled cheese & tomato soup ($7) from the regular menu. This was by far the WORST GRILLED CHEESE & TOMATO SOUP combo we had ever eaten. The very small portion of tomato soup tasted like cheap soup from a can, it wasn't even hot to melt the cheese, & it tasted like metal. The grilled cheese tasted like processed cheese smothered between two slices of cheap, dried out white bread. We couldn't even eat half of the half cut grilled cheese & the soup sat untouched after one slurp. W XYZ is definitely on my list of where not to return in PDX. My friend & I were still hungry & we each forked over about $20 that probably would've been better spent on happy hour at Famous Dave's. Not a good first impression, W XYZ. read more

W XYZ was not my first option, it just became part of my night because the last winery I wanted to stop into was having an event. I seriously wanted one last drink to end my night, and then I realized that Aloft, which we were staying in, had this bar in the lobby. What was supposed to be one last drink ended up being two. The original plan was to have wine to simulate what would have been wine at the other winery I wanted to visit. Just couldn't resist trying that chocolate old fashioned on the menu. It wasn't prepared as meticulously or in a vintage-feel setting like those cocktail bars downtown, but it was almost just as good. I especially loved the orange peel shavings in the drink. The bartender that took care of us was nice and accommodating. She made it for a good memory of our last night in Portland. read more

On rare occasions I find myself in a hotel bar; usually I try to get out and explore the surrounding area rather than holing up in the hotel. After returning our rental & grabbing a slice at Sizzle Pie, we headed back up to Cascade station to get ourselves organized for our flight home the next day. The desk clerk had been kind enough to give us two free drinks in the bar, so we put up our feet for a little bit and sipped on our cocktail. We both went with the Irish Cocoa Mug. Hot & tasty & warmed the soul. Full of chocolate flavor but not overpowered by the liquor. Definitely a nice night cap to cap off an awesome vacation. Would I have stopped in here if the drinks would not have been free? Honestly, probably not. With an average $10 price tag on all the drinks, I think I would have given my wallet the night off. With no real 'lobby' to speak of in the aLoft, you are immediately faced with the bar area. So you can't really miss it. Definitely had a crowd while we were there, but I don't think it's by any means a destination unless you happen to be staying there. read more

This is a beautiful lobby bar, we love the lighting in the bar, the place feels cozy, they have very comfortable bar stools and they also have sofas. We like going on Sundays, that's when our favorite bar tender works, he makes fantastic drinks, our favorite thing about this place is all the different drinks with fresh fruits, plus the service is great, the bartender does everything in this place and he still takes the time to talk to the customers, very nice guy. What we don't like about this place is the food, we try the chichen wings and they were very bad, the ranch was horrible, we couldn't even eat it, the artichoke dip was ok, but if your planning to go here eat before cause not only the selection is very limited but also is not good. If it wasn't for the prices that are a little high and the bad food we would give them 5 stars, because they have great drinks and great service. read more

I just spent a remarkable evening listening to live Jazz in an intimate setting. Modern space, good acoustics, fantastic musicians. Andre St. James on Bass, John Keyser on guitar and the venerable Dick Berk on drums. I was blown away, seriously, blown away! This is the bar at the Aloft Hotel at Cascade Station. I often go see Andre at Doc George's on Saturday nights but, the S.U. was out of town and I'd heard about this regular Wednesday night gig and took the opportunity to go over and check it out. WOW! What a great space. The musicians are top notch players. They were joined (impromptu?) by a new sax player, recently arrived from Sweden named Catarina. A hotel guest from NC (?) sat in the bar and she was going nuts!! "Who are these guys?? This is incredible!! I'd drive 50 miles and pay $100 to hear jazz of this quality!!" She's correct. Random airport hotel bar and she scored! There's a pool table, sitting spaces away from the bar and music where you could hear everything but be a bit out of the crowd. It's right near the Cascade Station MAX stop if you want to get your drink on. Really impressed by the venue and the music. Like live Jazz? Check out the website. I just recently discovered this place with a few friends last week and have gone here another time since then. Its a very relaxing atmosphere based inside a very modern looking hotel. Bartenders are very friendly here and more then happy to give you advice when it comes to social lubrication. Seating arrangements are very comfortable and welcoming at the same time. Had the opportunity to enjoy some jazz music the other night I was here and will say the acoustics here was pretty good as well. Ask me if I'll come again? Sure would! Just be prepared to spend more then average cost for beverages here. Had a double vodka soda and a dometic beer. That totaled to $22 between those two drinks. Keep in mind that this is a review of a bar located within a hotel. What I mean is that $6 draft beers and expensive shite meals are to be expected. I haven't been at one hotel bar in my life that didn't serve shallow drinks and crap food at escalated prices. The menu here is very limited and not vegan friendly (again, no surprise). But they do have a couple of respectable beers on tap. I came on Saturday night spur of the moment to check out the jazz band. As a previous reviewer said, they are worth the trip. The pool table is, dare I say, free. Perfect for an intimate date or low key night with friends. Not very crowded at all. A gem if you value intamacy in a romantic setting. Come here Saturday nights for the music, atmosphere and drinking. Eat beforehand. Also, building is located right on the Max line, so let the booze flow deep and wide. It is within the Aloft Hotel, which looks tight. If my flight was delayed en route in Portland I would stay here. They have a good drink menu, but obviously, the drinks are on the pricey side. I went for a Cucumber Collins. It was just okay. Pre Pandemic, I stopped in for dinner and to taste a new to me drank. I ordered Fish Tacos... they were superb. I was glad that am bilingual, I told the chef how fabulous my Fish Tacos were shortly after he walked in to the Bar area to wash something he was preparing. Also, I tasted the BEST Dirty Martini. I had never tasted one before. It's a long story... but, for most of my life I was Sober. People refer to themselves as " Straight Edge " who were also Sober who are also my age. And, .... WOW!!! I would have written about that Dirty Martini in a letter to my closest female friend from high school... but, she died in 2011. She had an Aortic Aneurysm in her abdomen. She was a Type 1 Diabetic, and she was morbidly obese at the end of her life. If you were shopping at the nearby Cascade Station and decided to go into the W XYZ Bar... you have to walk all the way around the building to gain entry. Don't come here for food you will be highly disappointed. We ordered chicken wings and they looked like they came from a baby chicken. It was mostly breading with no meat. We also ordered a quesadilla and it was something where you could just grab a tortilla and microwave it with cheese inside and fold it. It's a 'near airport' bar/lounge with somebody in the marketing/decorating department working overtime to make the place appear hipper than it is. This fails for a number of reasons; you can't be super cool if you share space with a Target, Best Buy and definitely not with a Ross Dress For Less. IKEA doesn't kill it, but it doesn't help, either. Drinks are somewhat up to PDX standards; there are some unusual pairings for flavors with cocktails. The lights are too bright (the hotel's check in desk sits in nearly the same space) and it feels like last call just got announced. The bartenders want you to know they're too cool for you, but that doesn't seem too different from many similar places. Mostly, this feels like a place you'd be happy to stay at while you were traveling or a neutral place to go hook up for a threesome with a stranger, with the benefit of rooms available onsite. We've gone a couple of times because we live in an area near the airport where 'getting out' means going to the local sports bar (is NASCAR really a sport? Really?), and since we have a wee one at home we don't want to travel far. Good for a quick drink (or ... quickie) if you're too damn lazy to leave Cascade Station in PDX. read more

Funky decor -- I was mesmerized by the color-changing fiber-optic spots in the bar surface (though admittedly more so after the beveraging began) -- and a decent cocktail and wine list. I was offered some spicy munchies ... not a perfect pairing for my beloved Pinot Noir but hey ... sometimes free is free. So, if you've read my reviews, you know I'm down with the libations. I like to sip on a variety of adult beverages in chillaxed atmospheres that lack pretension. I work near Cascade Station, and have enjoyed a number of after-work cocktails at WXYZ. I was in love with this cute little bartender named Ghong for ever, before she decided to go get her education (*pffft, overrated. I mean who actually NEEDS a degree these days...that's my bitterness talking. I miss Ghong....) Anyhoo, the new bartenders are also nice, especially the fella that makes me killer vodka drinks. It's a hotel bar, so there's a lot of young-ish business travelers, which makes for interesting people watching. The food is not so good, but my coworkers and I tear up some snack mix when we imbibe before heading home for proper dinner. This is a bit of a trendy bar, which is normally not my scene. However my co-workers enjoy this bar and it is very close to where we work, so it is our happy hour spot. The staff is amazing, super friendly and go above and beyond. Due to stopping in so frequently, sometimes we get VIP status including free drinks during events! They have events fairly often and live music weekly. The bartenders make stiff drinks which is the most important part anyway. If you are feeling adventurous or indecisive ask the head bartender Jeanette to make you something, she is kind of a rock star. The food is typical bar food nothing special, but cheap during happy hour. I dont think I would pay the drink prices after happy hour, but I am a cheapskate! read more

I was really disappointed with this place. Xyz to me, was advertized as a Hot, hip place, NOT! Although above par, somewhat, for Hotel bars/lounges it let me down. I was there for an event where they had drink specials. I ordered my drink after waiting in line for about 15mins. I gave one of the bar tenders my order for drinks along with asking for a menu, which she gave me.. She started pouring my drink, or so I thought, then left, and went back behind the bar somewhere, then back to the bar, then back behind it again. Before I knew it, the three people behind me in line had their drinks, along with the 2 behind them! The whole time the other bartenders were responding to patrons wanting to place food orders that the kitchen was REALLY backed up...This was an event they Hosted. The kitchen should not have been as backed up as it was.. They should have hired enough kitchen staff and bar staff to handle the "small" crowd.. No more than 50 people! I never did get my drink after 10mins. and I walked away. never did get to order food, What a waste of my time! The "Event" itself as fun, but if I go here again for another event, I'm not counting on getting served a drink or food, which is SAD!! read more

When we walked in i was blown away .. what a beautiful lobby bar .. the interior design was as fine as i have seen here in Portland .We had dropped of a friend at the Airport and thought we would catch some happy hour food and drinks. Drink service was a little slow but friendly ..The seats were sure cozy enough .. but we had caught u on a Sunday .. no happy hour .. no biggie .. looked at an appetizer menu and ordered the mac and cheese bites and the sliders.. the food came out about an honest 10 min apart..The Mac and Cheese bites were about a 5 out of 10 when it came to taste ,but what disappointed me most was absolutely zero plate presentation. you have the most beautiful surroundings with all this color and nothing on a plain square white plate,,,, It was the sliders that i just could not believe.. directly right out of white castle ..and our condiments in this fine establishment .. a ramekin of catsup and a ''Squeeze plastic packet'' of Mao and Mustard .not even any salt or pepper for seasoning.Again zero plate presentation ,i waited and managed in Portland and Beaverton restaurants for 20 years at .The Pavillion bar and Grill..[Sister Restaurant to the Heathman] The Trianon. Jazz De Opus [Opus One] and Salty's on the Columbia.In not one of these places did we serve Squeezable plastic packets that you find at Taco Bell and McDonalds . Not everybody is spending the night ,Some people are just checking the place out .. Is that what you really want for your first impression ..
