When I was in university, there was a sub shop on campus. Most would attest to the fact that the food 'magically' becomes a lot better late at night. I'll let you fill in the blank and read between the lines as to why that is. Waffle House is similar in that it's a reliable standby. So reliable, even FEMA has a Waffle House Index! The good ole yellow & black works when it's a late night, early morning, storm, incoming meteor, rapture, or the second coming. It's there when you just want some no-frills carbs and proteins. I wish I could say no-nonsense, but it is almost a guarantee you're going to meet some characters. No Fight Club 2.0 while I was there, only a stranger talking with us like she's known us for a while. I kept it simple: a single pecan waffle and a decaf coffee. Both were perfectly acceptable for what they were, simple and basic items to quash hunger rather than a specific craving. The food is priced reasonably, and WH is the definition of you get what you pay for. I'd also like to give credit to the employee on that night. She was a one-person army running the front and back of the house alone. Though it was a quieter night, I know it isn't easy when you're one person trying to do everything. Oh, and cleanliness? Other than some wear and tear, I didn't notice any glaring issues. Final verdict: as my hotel has a free breakfast about as basic as Waffle House, I didn't have a need to stop in. However, I can assure you if that free breakfast wasn't there, WH would be the first line of defense against the hunger monster. read more

I stopped in for a late at night dinner at the Waffle House in Elizabethtown after my family and I checked into our hotel nearby (they ate fast food earlier in the evening while I wanted to wait for Waffle House). I ordered the All-Star Special (I went with scrambled for my eggs and added cheese, hash browns instead of grits, bacon for the meat, no toppings on my waffle, and wheat for the toast). All of the food was good. I asked for the hash browns and bacon to be cooked crispy and they nailed it on both. Service was attentive and friendly. I had a good conversation with the cook, Terry, in between orders. He was running everything really efficiently and you could tell his years of experience has paid off. read more

Deserves more than 5 stars. I love Waffle House, but this one is the best I've been at in a while. I had the 2 egg breakfast with smothered hash browns and sausage. It was sooooo good. You just can't beat their hash browns. The sausage was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Perfect! I didn't get the bacon, but from what I saw it was cooked just right. The beau & i have been talking about getting hash browns & what better place than Waffle House to get them your way. Walked in and seated ourselves in a booth, the server got to us right away with menus & utensils, and our drink order. It was a weekday so we both stuck with waters. I already knew what I wanted so when she came back with our waters, we placed our orders. I wanted the all star with my hash browns smothered & diced with a chocolate chip waffle and added cinnamon raisin toast with apple butter. My beau got the Texas bacon cheesesteak melt plate with his hash browns smothered, covered & topped with a pecan waffle added. We enjoyed some tunes on the jukebox awhile waiting for our food. After a few minutes, our plates came out. First she forgot my apple butter so I had to ask and second they forgot the chili for my beau's hash brown but she offered to bring it in a cup. Everything was hot and made to order. About 1/2 way into my waffle I noticed a hair baked into my waffle.... But it wouldn't be Waffle House without something gross. WELL! this place used to be amazing until now... the servers name was Ari and she wasn't very great. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there at all, very unwelcoming. Then she got my order wrong and sat there eating food and on her phone. Didn't check on us once. Then my husband found HAIR on his toast. disgusting. unacceptable! Shame on Waffle House. Waffle House is a no muss no fuss chain. I've always liked that you can watch them make the food. Even though the menu doesn't list all of the toppings for hash browns that or used to, they are still all available. My new fav is double hash browns with mushrooms, jalapenos, and topped with chili. Then a single sunny side up egg on top. So good and such a great price! The workers here are always hustling. My one complaint: the music is too loud, especially when it's a busy time because then it makes everyone have to talk louder which just makes the whole restaurant loud. read more

Hubby wanted Waffle House experience so here we are on a rainy Tuesday morning. It was like stepping back into the 60s with the red seats and wood laminate everywhere. Service was friendly and quick. Had my doubts about this place but oh boy were they wrong! We walk into the restaurant and it's your typical Waffle House, they get you nice and seated and get the drinks for you. The All Star breakfast was exactly as pictured on the photo and came out hot and ready. The grits had a delicious consistency and everything was as it should be. The workers were quite friendly and really made the Waffle House a Waffle Home™. The kids were happy with the food and the wife enjoyed her meal. Wow this place was terrible. Waitress was bitching because there wasn't enough staff. She wasn't wearing a mask. The cook didn't as well. They were just complaining to each other and customers. No whip cream for my waffles! They turned away multiple customers because they were changing shifts or something. I don't know..but don't go here. I'm sure no one yelps a waffle house. Place was nearly empty though there were 4 or 5 employees. Food was standard Waffle House fare. Someone had seemingly started to sweep and there was a pile of crap by our table. What was truly disappointing was that our server took a personal phone call. Disgustingly dirty!!! Employees cooking without gloves. A male employee making sexual remarks to another female employee. He's been wearing his sunglasses that look like cop glasses the whole time. There were tables open but I understand the whole COVID situation so I asked if we can wait outside and she said, "You're gonna have to come back." in a very rude way. Well , we also debated on waffle house or Denny's Will not be back to this nasty place! Ordered, had the dirty dish water splash in the face, towards end of the meal, noticed the cook had snot hanging from his nose, ewww, gross! watched that same cook eating while cooking, immediately stopped eating! Horrible experience. We walked in and waited 5minutes for a dirty table to be cleared off while the staff watched us wait. Not greated at all or acknowledged. Finally the table got cleared off and sat there again and wait to be greated or handed menus. We finally asked a server walking by for menus and he handed us some, but did not ask a drink order. Then proceeded to get ignored. We waited 10 minutes at the table waiting when then a couple that sat down after us got waited on... I dont understand. Got up and left. Not once acknowledged by staff. This is your typical Waffle House experience. You can see the food being made right behind your seat. They yell your order to the cook after they leave your table. We always get the allstar breakfast which is a feast amount of food. The staff is always super friendly to you but bickering with each other which is my favorite part. read more

This was my first Waffle House experience. I had a peanut butter waffle and some hashbrowns. Pretty good food and the experience of watching the staff interact was well worth the price of admission. I was only there for about 10 minutes but hearing that many southern accents yelling back and forth at one another was like nothing I had ever witnessed before.
