This is a Waffle House location that traditions are made of - I stopped here thanksgiving morning while traveling to Lake Charles after staying the night in Gulfport, knowing there was a feast waiting down the road I just wanted grab a quick breakfast and get back to driving. The restaurant was mostly empty but you could sense they were preparing for an onslaught of customers as the sun started peeking above the piney woods along this stretch of highway. Our server was very polite but she showed subtle hints that she hadn't been working very long and was a little naive in the art of customer service, I forget her name so let's call her New Waffle House Server after taking our drink order she disappeared for a number of minutes then reappeared emptied handed explaining that she would like to make fresh coffee for us, awe such a sweet thought but I'm not a local looking to kill time at the local Waffle House I'm traveling on a holiday and trying to get from point A to point B. It was only a few minutes later that NWHS reappeared with coffee in hand but had to dart back to retrieve the single servings of creamer - yes I am ready to place my order after reading and memorizing both sides of the plastic menu and as soon as NWHS returns with her pad I will do just that. Okay Fast Forward - the country ham and eggs were amazing - I ended up getting a free coffee to go - my check arrived and I left NWHS a 27.125% tip and I feel everyone was happy and thankful...

Tara is the best! My fave Slidell location. Not freezing cold like most. & Cleaner than other Slidell locations. My fave workers at this one too.

The FRIED CHICKEN EGGS BENEDICT IS MUST ITS FABULOUS!!! I would definitely return to this hidden gem of a restaurant just for the Chicken Eggs Benedict it was that good. I should note tho both the sausage and the chicken eggs Benedict are served on their homemade grilled biscuits with the traditional southern white sausage gravy instead of hollandaise sauce which was a delicious touch and compliments the flavors. The crab cake eggs Benedict was served with the original hollandaise sauce and it was delicious... the crab cakes eggs Benedict is served over a layer of shredded hash-browns that I feel could have been cooked a little more crispy and the crab cake could have been cooked more crispy with less stuffing more crabmeat added especially since the crab cake and/or the hash-browns were serving as the English muffin part of traditional eggs Benedict. Don't get me wrong WE LOVE THIS PLACE .... It is a hidden gem and will be regulars. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!!!! Well worth the trip. Casual attire, hometown waitresses who know their regulars and their regular orders nice hometown vibe ! The table next to me ordered pancakes and were raving over the pancakes. Next time we come we will get pancakes, fried chicken and waffles so stay tuned for that review !

After about 15 minutes, I walked to the waitress station and politely asked for a menu; the response was an eye roll with menus "shoved" at me in an aggravated manner. Regardless, I thanked her. Soon, the same young waitresscame over and took our drink orders (waters) nicely, but then she left the back room where we were seated and did not return! Whaa? I never saw her again, so we have it another 15 min and gave up. We looked for our angry waitress as we walked through to leave hoping she, or anyone, might notice we were leaving, but nothing. The restaurant was crowded and diners seemed happy enough so perhaps we simply got the wrong person in the wrong moments. However, since I'm from out-of-state, this is the impression I will forever have of La Pines Cafe.

MAY 2026 Anniversary Vacation Part 4A: NOLA Southern Grill…read morein Slidell, LA. We were in Oyster Heaven last night at NOLA Southern Grill. It's a Hidden Gem nestled in Slidell, LA. We like to sit at the bar in restaurants and chat with people. Last night, we enjoyed chatting with the bartender Carol and her friend who is another local. I started off with a killer dirty martini! Carol knows how to make a good one! She, the cooks and entire staff are so appreciated! They were a lot of fun. Carol was so nice, very attentive and saw to every need of her customers. They offer Happy Hour 3-6:00 which included OYSTERS, raw or chargrilled! So I had both...raw and chargrilled. Terry stuck with the grilled. The raw oysters were amazing! Plumper, meatier, creamy and mild and less briny than East Coast NC and VA oysters. These are the kind of oysters you also want to fry! They were so perfect and so delicious! Next came out the Chargrilled Oysters...drenched and grilled with a melted Parmesan, Garlic, Herb Butter Sauce and served with slices of warm, garlic French bread to sop up the hot butter sauce that pooled at the bottom of the tray. Oh my oh my oh my! Shut the front door OUTSTANDING! Terry and I relished every single bite, I may have been moaning as I kept saying how delicious they were. Perfection on an oyster shell. We shared 2 doz chargrilled plus I had a doz raw with cocktail sauce and freshly grated horseradish. I seriously think I could have had more oysters! Terry also ordered their fried mushrooms, best we ever had! We ate like Kings and Queens. Dragos is on our list to go to but if we don't make it there this time, I'm so happy with NOLA Southern Grill's chargrilled oysters, I'm good, I don't need to go. I would like to compare the chargrilled oysters though, we shall see. But in the meantime....move over Dragos! NOLA Southern Grill has entered the building! Let's what we can get into trouble with later today in NOLA. I have my list!
