I stopped in here with my sister and my boyfriend after the cinema one Saturday night. We originally wanted to try out Thaikhun, but for some reason I didn't think Silverburn would still be totally packed on a random Saturday night in January.
Note to self: Silverburn is always busy!!
Since we hadn't booked a table there and it was full up, we ended up waiting in line for a table at Wagamama. Now I'm sure other reviews have mentioned this, but there appeared to be a lot of tables available so I'm not entirely sure why there was such a big queue in the first place. I know it probably has to do with the ratio of staff to diners, but still it seems a bit strange when you're just standing there staring at empty tables.
We finally got seated, ordered some drinks and had a wee browse at the menu. Since my sister and I have recently decided to go vegan we had a little trouble identifying which dishes we could eat. The staff where flying about the place and we couldn't catch anyone's eye to ask so we ended up just googling it. I decided to have the Agadashi Tofu and the yasai itame for my main. My sister got the mushroom onigiri (yes, non vegan) and the yasai itame too. The bf got his favourite dish of wok fried greens and then chicken ramen.
At this point we had decided what we wanted but there was no sign of our waiter. My sister was so thirsty by this point she had to ask my bf for a drink of his bottled water because our drinks hadn't arrived. We could see them sitting on the edge of the bar waiting to be lifted by our server - so close yet so far! Eventually we managed to catch him and get our drinks over. When ordering I had to repeat that I wanted the yasai itame NOT the chicken itame about three times before he got it right.
My meal ended up being a bit of a soup-fest. I had just assumed that the agadashi tofu would be like similar dishes I'd had before - tofu with a thick sticky sauce, but this was in a bowl of soup. It was nice, don't get me wrong, but was basically just a smaller version of my main meal. Guess I should have read the menu better! My itame was nice, but very filling. I struggled a bit at the end of the meal. The miso soup I got was FAR too salty and I had to leave it. The mushroom onigiri got glowing reviews, as did the ever popular (with us anyway) wok fried greens.
At the end of our meal, we asked for our bill and were promptly forgotten about again. Actually, we asked for our bill, then about 5 minutes later the same waiter came back over to see if we wanted any desserts or drinks...When we eventually got our bill we waited another 10 minutes for a card machine until my sister couldn't take it any longer and went up to the bar to pay. It's by far one of the worst waiter-related experiences I've had in a restaurant. Wagamama staff are usually pretty attentive, but he was really the worst waiter ever.
I don't think I'll be in a rush to be back to this branch of Wagamama to be honest. There are better food options in Silverburn. read more
