One of the better farmers markets on the Big Island. We play 'tourist' when we have visitors from the mainland or other islands and it's always an enjoyable field trip. Local vendors selling their wares -- art, clothing, jams/jellies, baked goods, Kona coffee, fruits/veggies. There are vendors selling hot/cold foods. They open early on Saturdays and parking can be challenging. Get there early! read more

Tourists far and wide - if you're looking for a farmers market on this island, this is it. And if you visit over Christmas, be sure to stop by and see Santa. Fresh coconut, fresh fruits, tasty food made ready at each stand, great crafts for sale, and a great uncrowded layout. It's a mix of tourists and locals and the playground just across the street seals the deal for families with little ones. We ate so much I thought we wouldn't fit back in the car! Even my family members who were dragged into the experience against their will (I have a habit of doing that) loved it. We enjoy going to Famer's Markets when we're travelling, and the Waimea Town Market is a good one. There were about 40 vendors selling everything from fruits and vegetables to hand made pottery. All of the food vendors offered free samples. We picked up several bottles of some of the most delicious jam (lilikoi, mango, and chocolate) I've ever tasted. Parking can be an issue, but we had no trouble finding a space across the street. read more

Stepping into this farmers' market felt like we were stepping into a Hallmark movie. It had all the ambience of that sunny family-friendly event where the protagonists of the movie would walk along and laugh while getting to know each other before the inevitable romance buds (and then almost falls apart before they fall hopelessly in love), but I digress. We're not saying we're experts on farmers' markets, but we found a sufficient number of food items and locally-made crafts and other wares together with that fun ambience to make this place a winner in our book. We picked up some super good orange-tangerine pound cake, banana bread, and mac-nut cinnamon rolls at the Sandwich Isle Bread Company booth while there (friendly people and delicious, reasonably priced items) and enjoyed the weather as we stretched our legs before continuing on our way to the Waipi'o Valley Lookout. Very nice farmer's market! We walked through and there were a variety of things being sold. The fruit caught our eyes though and we purchased some papayas to eat later. They were a very good price compared to what you can get at the regular market. This was a nice little stop during our trip to the Big Island. Seems like the best farmers market on the island. Prices can vary a lot and some exorbitant prices on mangoes depending on the vendor. Still a fun place to take the family. The farmers markets on kauai were much better for fruit quality, but could be due to timing of the season. read more

We were in search of fresh local produce and a larger variety than what we find in the more "touristy" farm markets. This regular Saturday event fit the bill! They also featured a number of quality crafts and artwork, along with prepared foods to eat on site or take home. It had a community feel yet was welcoming to the many tourists present as well. read more

To be honest, a bit lackluster. Was expecting more fruit stands but there were many two or three. Parking is a bit small for the amount of people that are there, but pretty quick turn around. Also street parking nearby. There were a few food stands and lines of people waiting to get their fix, so it seems to be a local favorite at least. read more

Nesting below the Waimea hills you'll find a colorful Saturday farmers market with a cozy vibe. This market has only a few booths with fresh fruit and leafy green. Most of the stalls have art from local venders, Kona coffee, and food havens. It is a short walk to see all what is available. A merry adventure. Especially nice is the green grass, cool breeze and gorgeous hills. The crowd and vendors are 'next-door-neighborly' friendly. It is definitely worth a visit. read more

Ok, so been coming here when I can. Earlier this year we had a booth set up to meet and greet. We are doing an Unexploded Ordnance contract. I was getting hungry and saw my boss eating tacos. Pretty awesome little market, some local grinds, all the healthy stuff too, coffee, plants, snacks, clothes, art, the works. I was pretty stoked to see there was a Ukrainian food booth. Great neighborhood farmers market! Good selection of local produce and entertainment. With ample parking and fair prices, this is a must check out place when travelling through Waimea on a Saturday. With 3 farmer's market in Waimea on Saturday... this one is pretty cool. It's located in the Parker Ranch school grounds.... look for the red buildings in the middle of town. You can eat your way around the market which is pretty cool. There's coffee, smoothies, poke, crêpes, BBQ, pies, tarts, cookies... pretty much everything that makes a breakfast of champions... minus the beer. With all the food, they (the people organizing the market) understand you need a place to sit so there are picnic tables in the middle of the market. This is nice for lounging and listening to music... oh yea... there's music too. :) And then there's the arts and crafts and flowers... lotions, oils, soaps, etc...... some really nice pieces. The "farmers" part of the market is a bit limited... I think we only saw like 2-3 tents with vegetables and fruits.... mostly veg. I think with the 2 other markets in town that this limits the produce vendors because they spread out. But what they have is really nice looking produce. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning in paradise! If you're visiting Hawaii and need a break from hotels and restaurant food, head over to the Waimea Town Market for a fantastic Farmer's Market experience. If you're a resident, I'm sure you already know about the wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to be found here. If you're a tourist, like I was, you'll really appreciate the food stands offering everything from a bounty of baked goods, to a plethora of prepared foods. I really enjoyed the Noodle Soup from the Thai food stand, as well as the pork, beef, and chicken skewers from the Filipino food place. Because my carnivore instincts had taken over, I went back for more protein at the sausage sandwich stall where I got pulled pork, grilled onion, and (for good measure) an over-easy egg, all on the same plate. That's the way to do breakfast in Hawaii! Another big plus for this place is that you can do all your souvenir shopping here. While you can't fly home with fruits and vegetables, you CAN bring home some amazing macadamia nut tarts, some Hawaiian Coffee, etc. Talk about one-stop shopping! So on Saturday, if the surf's not up, you should definitely head down. read more

Another awesome market in Waimea After we had visited the Homestead Market, we made a venture here - as it was practically right around the corner Offering such lovely tents w/ honeys, coffee, teas, shirts, & the most awesome pastries you've ever tasted Scored an adorable tshirt w/ a bunny, some locally grown green & white tea for Sis, Coffee to bring back to coworkers & we can never pass up honey! The variety we chose was from the Lehua Flower which is local to volcanic regions & it was thick & white & slightly sweet - perfect for those who like just a hint of sweetness in their coffees The pastries we had - omg! Mac Nut Tart - lots of honey used as the base for this shortbread crusted tart w/ tons of macs! Lilikoi-Cheesecake - slightly tart from the lovely passion fruit & nice creamy from the cheesecake - this was awesomeness! Wherever I travel there seems to be three consistencies - farmers markets, good food (and no, I don't mean fancy) and unique places of worship (wooden/glass church in Arkansas, mosaic-filled Basilica in St.Louis, mini Catholic church by the beach in Hawaii and so on). Given the abundance of fruit varieties available in Hawaii, there was no way I was rolling out of there without experiencing at least one market and farm tour. This particular market is on the smaller and less-crowded side of things - vendors range from leather jewelry and Kyoto-style coffee to fruit and local Hawaiian honeys. We probably spent 30 minutes in total during our visit and strolled up to 50% of the booths. We especially enjoyed one of the vendors who sold passion fruit (which not only is super easy to consume, but peels easily - around $4/piece of fruit), honeys and these protein-like oats and honey bites that were extremely delicious. I can still taste in my mouth as I type out the words. If you're looking to explore and sample the variety of fruits and produce in Hawaii, do yourself a favor and grab some cash and head to the market. We actually went out of our way on that planned day to hit it up and I'm glad we did! We tried some of the best food there, and the work from the artisans was amazing! Great place to stopover for prepared foods, produce and gifts to bring home. I recommend coming here on an empty stomach because you'll want to try the different food vendors. I ate a big buffet breakfast earlier, but had I known I would've saved my appetite. There's definitely lots to try. I bought some strawberry butter to bring home and a refreshing smoothie. There are vac sealed tarts that can be labeled and brought back to Canada, don't see this ask the pleasant people there and they will do there best for you. Went back May 5, 2012 and had the the Black Italian Cherry Turnover from the Sandwich Isle Bread Company and their Mexican buns (which were almost like the Japanese Melon pan except with cinnamon). Both were excellent! Make sure you bring a jacket because it can get quite windy and chilly with the mist blowing through. read more

It was our last day on BI. But a friend had highly recommended Mai Bacon. Home smoked-cured bacon. Yum! We picked up a couple of their BLTs. Delicious! Unfortunately, they couldn't sell us just cooked bacon to bring back to SF with us because they wanted to have enough for sandwiches for the rest of the market. Totally understandable. They had frozen slabs but I didn't want to trust not having a cooler for it on the flight home. Guess I'll have to plan better the next time! read more

This is one of the true delights of the Big Island. It's located in upcountry Waimea, which is elevated and cooler than other parts of the island. The market is small, but has great produce and food vendors, including the authentic Si Nuan Thai cuisine and a lovely breakfast place. Also bought the most delicious banana mango bread from this market. We absolutely fell in love with this market and will return whenever we're on the island again. read more

We tried a ton of things with Steve and a few salts at the other place. Fun little market with great food & produce. The Thai food was excellent.

This was a small, but fabulous farmers market. Wood-fire baked artisan breads; the tea people who grow their own organic teas and give samples with explanations of what you're sampling; the fresh-baked pie ladies; a sausage vendor that also sold their own mushroom farro soup; fresh organic produce; the organic Kona coffee guys; and much more. It's on the grassy grounds of the Parker School and is just a charming setting. We went to Waimea Town just for this, but were lucky to be there on the day of the Paniolo Parade--a wonderful parade in which each participating group paid homage, complete with offerings, to the Hawaiian royalty who led the parade. It was very moving and a privilege to see! read more

Some great vendors include: Ahakaloa Farms (dark chocolate covered macadamias & other nuts); Hawaiian Candy Man (dried coconut candy & other dried fruits); Honomu Farms (attractively presented jams & jellies). On the lush grounds of a high school built to look like an old fashioned cowboy ranch compound. Some vendors will accept credit cards but bring cash just in case. read more
