I came in today & asked for a "funky, natural white." I've walked into a number of wine stores in Brooklyn and asked this question, to which I always immediately receive a strong suggestion or two. In today's case, I was offered an orange wine, and a couple of options for Rose, but nothing white. As I tried to remember and describe the more specific qualities that I was looking for (i.e. unfiltered, etc.), I was met with condescension. I decided to just get the orange wine and go. I will leave this with a quote from a Food & Wine article on "funky wines:" "Taylor says he's accustomed to people coming into his place and asking for funky wines. "It may be overused, but I don't discourage people from using it," he says..."It could mean barnyard, or it could mean a wine that's unfiltered or hazy, or it could mean a wine that's made without sulfites or chemicals," he says. I simply adore this prodigiously run shop. They have a nice array of wine and spirits (most) that are very reasonably priced especially considering the zip code. I highly recommend attending one of their wine tasting classes. I learn something new each time I attend. They have a plethora of different rosé wines. Additionally, the shop carries wine from many different islands versus just the traditional French, Spanish, Italian and Californian wines. read more

I've been to this liquor store a few times and they are always very nice and helpful. They have a great selection of wines and liquors and they cater to all budgets. They also have some really great sake selections. There is plenty of parking, so you would never have to worry about finding parking here. One time they didn't have the product I was looking for, and they even gave me suggestions of other liquor stores that may have it. They seem to be really honest and hardworking. It's definitely my go to liquor store in the area. read more

Chimene and Luis are the real deal! After hunting for some wine bottles I had been missing from my collection, I decided to call Wainscott Main. Chimene mentioned she just got these bottles in that day and agreed to not only hold them for me before they even went into inventory, but also ship them across the country! These were very rare wine bottles and she could have easily sold them to the highest bidder like most liquor stores would. It's good to know there's still a few real shops out there and this is one of them. A++ service and I'm now a customer for life, despite living 3,000 miles away. The owner is rude, defensive in the face of legitimate complaints, and does not give good customer service / or think long term about developing her client base. We purchased faulty products and she refused to honor or even acknowledge our concerns, let alone apologize or offer a refund or credit or exchange. A little consideration would have gone a long way. As it is, we will not be spending any of our ample year- round wine budget here. read more
