I liked how they talked and demonstrated everything slow that any participant at any level would feel confident and comfortable. My mom was very nervous, only because she is afraid of heights. The pace Scott assisted getting her into the harness drop zone was awesome...I noticed in ever minute her fears dissipate. They provide the boots for you to wear which are GREAT for this journey...just remember to wear tall socks. Overall, I highly recommend this tour for the very adventurous and also those timid to try adventures like this. Once your sitting hovering you will realize you feel very safe and secure in the harness attached. You control your speed and it is very slow so you can enjoy the drop in.

I am terrified of heights so it…read moremade sense to sign up for the 4 hour lost world tour where you abseil 328 feet (30 story building) into a cave. Apparently Tom Cruise has done this 5 times! Super nervous when they were hooking us up to the ropes but as soon as we went over the edge...time stopped. It was actually relaxing in way because you have full control of how fast or slow you want to go. Looking down it was hard to compute how high you actually were! The guides were very knowledgeable and gave us some water/chocolate halfway through. We sat down and looked up at the glow worms. They really did look like stars in the night! You are not allowed to bring your camera or phone but the guides take pictures for you. You don't need to worry about the glow worms falling down onto you. They are so small I don't think you would even notice if they did. The scariest part was actually climbing back up out of the cave because you have to use this extremely tall metal ladder. Just pace yourself and you will be fine. This is something that I never though I would do in my life but the guides were really well trained and helped us all the way. Next time I would like to try the black water rafting.

A few days ago, we went to this zipline park to do ziplining while in Waitomo. This park contains…read more10 ziplines - the shortest ones are at the beginning of the activity, and near the bottom of the mountains. The highest ones are at the top, and are the last part of the trip. The guide taught me how to do do ziplining, he was friendly, helpful and a great instructor, and it was actually really easy to do, once I got the hang of it. There are places that are good for photography and/or having an opportunity to have your photo taken. The long ziplines had great views, and are great for using an action camera to film the activity and the view, which I did. It is definitely worth it, and recommended for anyone with a great sense of adventure, and with a reasonable amount of fitness level, as the hills can be steep and at times, slippery with loose rocks (be warned). The guide also tells you a bit about the area surrounding the ziplines too. If you love adventures, ziplining, and looking for a bit of a thrilling experience with great views, this is well worth the experience and is highly recommended.

I really enjoyed getting to see the farm animals up close and Nicole's pup Luke was a fun addition to the Trek. We took a quick break by the stream and her homemade German bread was a nice touch! My horse Sally was beautiful, and a bit of a troublemaker searching for food, but she was also safe and easy to ride! I would definitely recommend this horse trek as it is the perfect way to enjoy the NZ scenery!

There are no photos allowed on the tour which is actually great because the more your eyes adjust to the darkness, the more glow worms you see. We were allowed to take a photo as we were exiting our boat ride. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about the cave and its history. In fact, he is a descendant of the family that owns it. The highlight was the short boat ride along the river that formed the cave. That is where the glowworms really shine like stars. So cool.

I've…read moreheard a lot about this place, but it's taken us a while to finally make the short trek down from Hamilton. When you arrive, there is a car park and visitor centre. Pay for your tickets at the visitor centre. They have some souvenirs and a small cafe there as well. There are toilets near the visitor centre. They have passes for adults, children, a family pass, yearly pass and various options for guided tours. We opted for the self-guided experience (though, I might have chosen the guide if I went without the kiddos). We also had a coupon from the Entertainment Book (buy one get one adult entry). Mostly, this is a great bush walk and place to see native birds. Bring some binoculars if you have them. The pathways are all gravel or raised wooden walkways. We stuck to the Rata path on this occasion, which had some up and downhill parts, but nothing exceptionally strenuous. We packed about 3 bottles of water and brought our own snacks, which was good since the boys expended a lot of energy running around on the trails. I definitely recommend the viewing tower. It was there that we were visited by a kaka. It just landed on the railing of the tower and walked up and down, checking us out, before flying away. There was another toilet along the way. I just constantly encourage everyone to go when there is one, and we didn't run into any troubles by doing this. I also recommend going to the pond. My boys loved looking at the numerous crayfish scuttling along the ground of the pond - water was so clear you could see right to the bottom.

We happened across this place on our way back to Rotorua from the Waitomo Glowworm tour, and we had…read moresome time to kill so we decided to visit. And I'm glad we did! At first when we entered the darkened kiwi hut we had no luck seeing the birds, but after a while and with some patience, we were able to spot them in their habitat! It was pretty neat to see them poking around in the dirt, so cute! One of the staff also did a short talk where she gave us some interesting facts and info about kiwis, so it was a fun, informative trip. There are a handful of other enclosures on the grounds with different types of birds to see so it was a nice way to spend a couple hours in the afternoon.

If you want to see a kiwi, you can here, but with a caveat…read more Prepare for a challenge to spot one. It's not like other zoos where you just walk up to a display and you see the animal just doing its thing. Kiwis are nocturnal creatures, so you have to enter a dark viewing area and look through the glass in a habitat and hope they aren't hiding the whole time. The staff will help you if you're having a hard time spotting one. If you were looking to cuddle with a kiwi, this is not place for you. Since it's located about a 15 minute drive from the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, you can do both activities on the same day.
