It's a good size - not overwhelmingly large but not so small it doesn't offer a choice. It's recently had a refurbishment with new checkouts and updated store design. You'll find reduced price bargains (meat and bakery) if you pop in just before closing on weekdays. They also have 'green' checkouts for customers who don't require plastic bags - cardboard boxes are usually available from behind the checkouts. There is free parking but this does get chocker with 44s, especially at weekends. Unless you have a disability, I recommend parking at the end of the car park. You'll reduce the risk of a BMW X5 reversing into you and you'll have a less stressful shopping experience. Because it's a smallish shop, you'll usually see the bright and breezy manager or deputy manager walking the floor - extremely unusual in today's supermarkets.

But it has everything you are likely to need for a weekly shop, and includes a fresh fish and deli counter. The entrance area has a small gardening section, stocked seasonally (so bulbs in the autumn, seeds in the spring, etc), alongside a decent cut flower section. There's a generous car park, though road access is slightly fiddly with a steep, sharp curve onto a narrow access road (drive slowly). Pedestrian (level) access is directly off Alexandra Road near the 156/493 bus stops, with a lift and stairs.

It carries a comprehensive range of goods and feels spacious and light. There is a sizeable car park and a nearby bus stop and it's about a ten-minute walk from the station. In recent years, Wimbledon has gone from none to three Waitrose stores within a couple of miles but they all seem to be doing well so the demand was clearly there.

I thought it was kinda weird that you had bag your own items though, we don't do that in the US. But yeah, I basically pick up everything food related here.

Fortunately it's one of the larger Metros and there are a lot of tills and a fast moving self-service till section. It has the all the usual Tesco stuff: a sandwich section by the door for lunchtimers in a hurry, a deli counter, a bakery (I recommend the walnut bread), a whole aisle of alcohol and a CD/DVD corner. As well as a large range of groceries, including their full "world range", there's a homewares, electricals and clothing section. There's a pharmacy, Tesco mobile shop, Travel money shop, Vision Express, Timpson and a Cafe. Outside there's a car-wash and fuel station. (Note these don't all have 24 hour service). There are also toilets and an ATM. It's so large it can be hard to find things - be prepared to walk. The car park is large but can still get very busy at peak times (as can the queues to get in and out of it). The store has level access throughout, an induction loop, and disabled parking facilities. Assisted shopping is available on request, and assistance dogs are welcome.

Fresh food counters include a Bakery, Deli, Fish Counter, Hot Food Counter, Meat Counter, Pizza Counter and a Sushi Bar. There's also a homewares and small electricals section, which runs as far as selling TVs. On my visits, I've always found the checkouts to be a little slow, and the Tu store could with a few more staff (the men's formal shirts section was s bit of a mess). Otherwise, it's good for a one-stop grocery shop.

The grocery side of the store is mostly unchanged. Standard big Sainsbury's on that side. However, it now also has home accessories, small appliances, etc. on the ground floor and clothing upstairs. The whole place is a bit shinier and seems to be keeping up with the improvement the whole area has been getting as its across-the-street neighbord Southside improves & expands.

We're hard done by supermarket wise us Shoreditch residents. Sure, there's a health food store here and a Tesco Express there but we don't really have our own supermarket. A thousand and one places to buy a vodka tonic? Sure. A place to stock up on food essentials? In your dreams. The closest thing we have is Sainsburys Islington and boy is it a good supermarket. Great deli and meat sections, a good range of produce, hard to find health foods and a diet busting bakery all conspire to make us Shoreditch residents wish we resided in N1 instead. This place makes a mockery of Tesco with its superior quality and similar prices and all things considered, it's probably worth non-Islington residents going to Sainsbury's Islington every week or so and just catching a cab home. It's that good.

Why? 1) I am used to it and know I can get everything I am looking for there. 2) The quality of the food is high and selection is good. 3) I also sometimes buy their 'Taste the Difference' foods which usually deliver as well as the 'Basics' range (eg loo rolls which are great value). 4) Prices are good. The only downside to the Islington branch is that it doesn't have the best layout (long and wedge shaped) and the car park stuck at the back means you have to schlep your trolley in the rain through an obstacle course all the way around the side of the store past the crowds waiting for the bus along the pavement but this is a minor complaint really given the central London location. The Camden Town Sainsbury also has an underground car park but is a newer store. That branch also has an in store bakery which Islington doesn't. Weekends, especially Sunday, also tend to be a zoo so either be prepared for the crowds or go during the week. Bonus of the car park however is that you can visit the excellent market stalls in Chapel market and pick up some great bargains on fruit and veg as well as fish. There is an excellent fish stall in the market with much lower prices than you'll find in Supermarkets and probably fresher.

It has an in store bakery which turns out freshly baked bread throughout the day. There is a small clothes department and a home ware section so this makes it perfect for the weekly shop. It offers a free car park but the trolleys do need a token or £1 coin in order to use them. The staff are friendly and helpful and the shop clean and tidy. There is a good selection of the most popular cds, dvd's and games. There is a petrol station on site and it is easy to get to.
