Yet another convenience store with a small grill. They offer a variety of breakfast sandwiches, wings, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, a few subs and sandwiches, including a fish sandwich. I've had the fried chicken here and it is quite good, much like the Krispy Krunchy brand. But today I just wanted a hot dog and a cheeseburger. The burger is cooked to order so it took 10 minutes or so to get my order. The hot dog, with mustard, chili, and onion was very nice, not quite at the level of the very best in the area, but for $2.69 this is a real value, most in the area are between $3 and 4$! The cheeseburger was also nice, and at $6.90 it is not a real value, especially when compared with the Wakeburger which has double the cheese and meat for $1 more - didn't see this until later! I've been here once before but it had been a while. I decided to come back over to the other side of town from where I live to get a double cheeseburger from this place. I remember the burgers were good and they definitely were. Based on just the shape of the Patty. I could tell that they were not hand padded but that's okay. They were seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. I definitely would recommend this place, the people are super nice and the food is really good. If you're looking for cheap eats with big portions this is it! If you're expecting gourmet quality, try again. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at what you do get for your money there. I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars but since I can't do that and the food wasn't quite 4-star worthy to me it's 3 stars on Yelp. My husband brought it home for me, so I can't rate the service at all since I wasn't with him. I'll just skip right to the food. He brought home a burger, hot dog and a fish sandwich for us to share. He got a combo meal for my 15yo that included a cheesesteak, fries and a drink($8). Apparently my husband ordered their fried chicken too, but they forgot to give it to us and instead were mistakenly given an extra burger. Total bill was $31 for all that food. I liked the hot dog. It was your standard size and not pink(thank goodness!)but it didn't knock my socks off. The burger was pretty good. I was surprised at the size and tastiness given the price. I'd order it again. The fish sandwich was huge! My husband ordered it on Texas toast but you can opt for a hogie roll as well. It came with a small side of slaw, tarter and hot sauce. It needed a little seasoning but was otherwise really good. My sons combo with a cheesesteak, fries and a drink was the deal. His sandwich was huge and served with a huge portion of fries and a small drink. He let me have one bite and it was really good! The fries were hot and crispy, even after the drive home. Plus, they have Cheerwine in the fountain so that makes them great in my book. If you're on a tight budget and want to fill up this is a great spot. I work about 15 minutes from this place, and was curious about it so I had to stop in and see what it was about. Wake Mart is a convenience store that is located across from the College Barbershop on N. Cherry Street. The thing that has people talking about this place, is the grill inside! The people are really friendly when you walk in, and the lady at the front took my order promptly. I chose to go with the Philly steak and cheese combo as it came with fries and a 16 oz drink from the fountain. I also got a side of fried okra because I love that stuff. There are no dine-in area so everything is take out. The Philly cheesesteak was really hot, and I got it all the way with green peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and of course cheese! It was really good, and had lots of flavor. The only complaints I have is 1) they didn't cut the sub in half which was annoying, and hard to eat; and 2) there wasn't enough cheese on it for my liking. Frank's had more cheese in their cheesesteak. The fries were okay, some could have been cooked longer, and more seasoning salt was needed on them as there was just a blemish of that on there. They did put ketchup packets in the styrofoam tray which was a pleasant surprise as most people forget that. You certainly get your helping of fries around here that's for sure! I just wish they were a little crispier. The helpings here are really large for the price you pay which is a plus! My side of fried okra was delicious, and there was so much that my styrofoam cup barely close because of it! The okra was piping hot, and really good. It was really crunchy, and breaded just right. Although I will say they used too much seasoning salt on it for my taste buds. Other than that it was pretty good. They have a variety of sandwiches, wings, and other fast food type of items that I will have to try again.
