This year my favorite item was the chicken salad sandwich at the Blue Eyed Baker. I guess they cook their meats using a sous vide method, which made the chicken so moist and tender. Definitely check out this little food fest next year (2nd Saturday of September). I really hope they extend the hours like in years past, because 11am-3pm was too short.

It all started in 2010, and since then the event has been extremely popular not only among local residents. The festival takes place in a park worth visiting not just for the festival itself. It's small, but well-maintained and compact, with the picturesque Glen Falls. It's a perfect place for a little stroll, or a getaway from the crowd. This year, 150 vendors participated in the event. I'm sure everyone could find something interesting for themselves. I got caught at two booths for a little longer than the others. The first was Enchanted Cottage Candles. Actually, it was a really popular spot. We all couldn't believe how perfect each candle looked, not to mention the scent, which was absolutely stunning. I also had to stop at Susie Byerley Fine Art Oil Painting from Southern Indiana. I hardly ever talk to vendors, but this time I just had to chat a little bit. Her extraordinary talent was impossible to miss. I'm sure many complimented her traditional representational art. I hope she managed to sell at least a few of her beautiful pieces. There weren't many food vendors, but I was happy to see Sunshine Vegan Eats. Anyway, Williamsville has plenty of restaurants, so don't worry. There's something for everyone.

How can anyone really feel comfortable there always wondering when and where they con use a restroom and how can they enjoy what the festival has to offer while they're walking around looking for restroom and then having to wait in absurdly long lines once you find restroom. The food and craft vendors are good and overall the festival has plenty to offer for all ages. More corn themed items and food would be a good adition. Overall it's a good festival but parking and restroom accommadations need improvement.

There are plenty of amazing restaurants, a quirky and historical 5 and dime store, a small movie theater, the Roycroft campus and a smattering of other businesses that keep it busy and thriving. Long before Hallmark movies were trendy, people described East Aurora as a perfect "hallmark" town and now there have been several Hallmark movies filmed there! Many businesses have their own parking lots, but there are also municipal lots along with on street parking. It is also a very walkable space. They are also home to Knox Farm State Park which hosts a lot of fun and unique events but is also great for cross country skiing in the winter months. I love East Aurora and feel like it is a little escape while still being so close to home.

It has a rich history, Millard Filmore spent a lot of time here and married Abigail, who was from here. Then there is Roycroft. They have a few festivals each year, master artisans have come from here for over a century. It all started from the Roycroft Press. Today it's a welcoming town, just the perfect size. The Main Street is full off small mom and pops. From small bakeries to ice cream parlors to Viddlers. There are nice restaurants of various price ranges in town. There are also some chains, Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts to name a few. And the usual banks and other commerce options. While it's a commuter town in large part, there is also a local business component these days. And a co-op. Street parking, check the meters.

When in Buffalo and it's THE WING festival in the home town birthplace of said wing, you have Yelp duties! -1* for the venue setup: Nowhere to sit (w/o a purchasing a VIP pass) and it was a very hot day with no shade throughout, except for VIP areas. What, we working stiffs can just suffer and you don't care? We would have had more wings, but eating them standing up was awkward.

Admission alone is $20 (8 and under are free), and then you have to purchase food tickets once you're inside. A sheet of 10 tickets is $15, and it costs more if you're paying by credit card. Parking is another $25 if you choose to park in the ramp nearby. (Definitely look for street parking because it's free on weekends). By the time you get in, park, and buy tickets, it adds up quickly. There are food options other than just wings: baked goods, ice cream novelities, mac and cheese, pierogis, and pizza ranging from 1-4 tickets. Each wing is 1 ticket, which equates to $1.50. That said, my son had a great time and was a big fan of the whole experience. He especially enjoyed independently going to the stands and giving me a full review of each item he tasted. Personally, my favorite food item was the boneless chicken bites from Springer Chicken (sold at TOPS) shaken in classic Frank's. Overall, I appreciate the effort that goes into putting on an event like this and supporting the Buffalo community, but I do think the overall cost is getting pretty high for families.

This show is 1/3 the size it used to be because so many artists have ditched it for better venues. Now the vendors have significantly diminished quality. Art on a stick is what I call it. The show does awards well but the food has even become very fair like. They have cute shows consisting of cloggers, voice students, dancers etc. In an article in the Orchard Park Bee the chairman said that they are looking for new artist blood because so many artists have retired. Not true. We all talk and have decided not to attend because we aren't treated well, this festival long forgot who its customers were. Now they are all gone.

While in Buffalo recently, friends suggested we make the hour trek to Ellicottville to check out the festival. It's located in a small ski village, and -- never one to turn down the chance to check out a new place -- I jumped at the chance. Street parking was relatively easy to find, and we soon were meandering through the downtown at the foothills of the ski resort. With hills all around us and brilliantly color-changing leaves, it was here to beat the beautiful setting. If you know local festivals, you know what to expect -- booths with all sorts of arts, crafts, snacks, and unique local finds lined the middle of the streets, which had been closed off for pedestrian-only traffic. We perused the different booths and stores before stopping a spell for lunch. Happen to be out this way in the fall? Head on over and check it out for a relaxed afternoon in a colorful and cozy setting.

The church just inside town was graciously offering "donation" parking (as opposed to the $10 parking further into town), and since it was on the edge of town, made it super easy to leave when we were done. I've been to many Halloween events and this, by far, is one of my fav! It's not meant to be scary…read morelike Casa Loma's Legends of Horror or Screemers, nor does it have roller coasters and mazes like CW's Haunt, but it does have craftsmanship and artistry and guarantees a fun outing for the fam. Located at Country Heritage Park in Milton, this self-paced 1km leisurely walk is lined with hundreds of carved pumpkins. Some are single carved pumpkins, while others are arranged into one cohesive image. It's incredible, the amount of detail and work that goes into each pumpkin carving. The pumpkins are organized by themes and have the occasional plaque with some descriptors. New this year was the Dracula Maze which takes place inside a large barn. There were no jump scares and have a few live actors inside. The pumpkins are carved each year. And while it might not make a good photo to have someone stand in front of the pumpkins, they'd set up a small area with spotlights where you can take some cute pictures. We went on pet night and I think my dog enjoyed it... we even got a bag of dog treats when we left.

Summer is winding and Halloween is the next big day that kids look forward to celebrating. So what better to do than drive the fam out to Milton to see some Jack-o-Lanterns come alive at night. Given the pandemic is still upon us, a drive-through format has been retained this year from Sep 17 to Nov 8. Staff guided the 2.5 km route and ensured car headlights were off (or covered) such that their pumpkin display was the star of the show. When it was finally pitch dark after sunset, it was time to get the show on the road after much eager anticipation... Displays included favourites from Harry Potter, Star Wars and Game of Thrones. Disney classics, Greek mythologies, X-Men heroes, Naruto characters and Rock n Roll stars were also out n' about, while artistic renditions of the Day of the Dead, a Freak Show, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse catered to the Halloween theme. There was even a live pumpkin carving demonstration, as well as pumpkin-made rainbow bridges to pass under. With over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins along the route, the displays are a fun sight for sore eyes! I have to admit from afar, each colourful work resembled those at holiday light shows. But upon closer inspection each was intricately composed of pumpkins. Talk about upping the level of difficulty for a one-of-a-kind family experience.
