Bruno and I had a wonderful time at Waldo's on Tuesday evening! It's located conveniently close to Cahaba Heights Parks & Rec and the Vestavia Hills Dog Park! A dog friendly, family friendly, group friendly, everything friendly place to be on a weeknight. They have a large bar that has an inside and and outside seating arrangement. The salad was delicious! I will admit it didn't seem like much from the menu description, but it was delightful. Unfortunately, I wanted something other than Buffalo and the next above Buffalo is habenero oil... which was hottest than I anticipated but completely manageable for us who like the spice. CHEDDAR BISCUIT W/ JALAPEÑO RANCH!! I ordered the 6 Tender Plate, Fire Roasted Chicken (1/4), White Beans, Collard Greens, Tomato Cucumber Salad, and a variety of sauces through Uber Eats. While I wish the food had arrived hot--because I can tell it would have been even better--it was still a solid meal. The tenders had great seasoning but leaned a bit on the dry side. However, the Fire Roasted Chicken was a standout--perfectly moist and fall-off-the-bone tender. Unfortunately, none of the sides really impressed me, but the cheddar biscuit was absolutely incredible. I wish I had ordered more because dipping it in the jalapeño ranch was a total game-changer--I could eat that combo all day long. For sauces, I highly recommend the Comeback, Tender Sauce, and Jalapeño Ranch. Overall, I'll definitely be returning--if not for anything else, then for that biscuit and ranch combo. Waldo's in Cahaba Heights is always "Hit & Miss" with me. Today was a "Miss". I had Lunch there today - the Chicken Tender Basket with four tenders and French Fries and Tea. They gave me six tenders instead of 4, but the tenders were the size of my thumb (see pic). The breading was crunchy and tasty but the sliver of chicken was dry and void of taste. The French Fries were about an inch to inch-and-half long and they were soaked with oil. I guess I got the bottom of the bag? Very Disappointed. The Tea was fresh and tasty. read more

I'm on the fence with this one. The tenders and collards were very good. Our order came out super fast. The fries were ok but they were a bit soggy and room temp. My husband actually liked them that way so it wasn't the end of the world. The chicken and collards were HOT (temperature wise) and I appreciate that, especially how fast the food came out. We sat at the bar and it was dirty. The guy behind the bar serving was very nice and said it was his first day. Everyone starts somewhere and my husband and I both worked in restaurants so we give A LOT of grace. The only thing was that he took our order and then he never really went back behind the bar. He was at the cash register by the kitchen etc. I give him credit for staying busy at least. What was frustrating was that there was a gal behind the bar as well. She wasn't really training him or showing him what to do. She also wouldn't make eye contact with us or look in our general direction. With him gone and her not servicing anyone at the bar except a guy and a kid who I assume may have been her husband and child, we were kinda left on our own. We finally had to flag her down to get our check. We live way down 280 and have to pass up like 4 other chicken strip places to get to Waldo's. This is a cute little spot hidden in the Mountain Brook - Vestavia area. There is an outdoor bar and seating as well as an indoor bar and seating. The menu is mostly chicken as you would get from the name. There are wings, tenders, and chicken portions offered as fried or roasted. If you're like my oldest sister and don't like fried chicken, the nachos appetizer is a great option. If you're like me, a vegetarian, there are a few appetizers and salad that will work. They have a good craft bear selection. They also have some really good spiked slushes. I suggest the sneaky peach. If you like peach drinks, you'll love it! If you're wondering how's the chicken, I got mixed reviews. My son had tenders and said they were OK. My husband had a 1/4 chicken fried and thought it was OK, but wished the seasoning was not just on the skin but also in the meat. My sister also had the tenders. She thought they were good. All of them agreed the sides were good. They had fries, collards, and mac n cheese. It's a really chill casual dining spot. The whole family had a great time. The service was great! Food: Yum Service: Friendly Ambiance: industrial chic meets barnyard I finally got to try this place, and I was not disappointed. We tried an assortment of different menu items, and it left me eager to return to try more the next time. The cheddar biscuits were great! Similar flavor to Jim 'n Nick's biscuits, and a great complement to the chicken. The fried pickles had a nice seasoning that has a bit of spice to it, but overall they were a bit too salty to enjoy too many of them. The buffalo wings were fine, nothing special, and not hot (spicy) at all. The wings can also be tossed in other sauces, so I will definitely be trying different varieties in the future (options include BBQ, AL White, lemon pepper dry rub, Rooster sauce, and habanero oil). The Chicken Scratch salad was pretty good. We had fried chicken, but there is an option for grilled if you prefer, and you can have your chicken tossed in sauce as well, for an upcharge. It had nice mixed greens instead of just straight iceberg lettuce, and the ranch dressing was a good one. The winner to me was the Fowl Mouth sandwich. The slaw and the comeback sauce on the sandwich help to balance the habanero oil that covers the chicken. This sandwich has a true heat that builds with each bite but does not overpower. The lemonade is good, just remember that there are no refills (unlike the standard fountain drinks and tea, which are refillable). There is a good selection of draft beers, including many local breweries. I would have liked to try the margarita, maybe next time. It is a family-friendly lunch and dinner option, given the universal appeal of chicken tenders and fries. And, Thursdays kids eat free (with a paying adult). read more

This is the latest happening spot! I came to grab lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was so busy at the ordering counter. The bar wasn't soooo , I smartly copped a seat at the bar and the rest is history! I ordered my drink and food at the bar and it was total ease. The bartender was so nice and hardworking! He made sure I was taken care of. My four piece chicken tenders w/t potato wedges were perfect! Every bite was flavorful! The chicken fingers are def good. I tried the honey mustard sauce and it was terrible, extremely too spicy. I feel like the sauce makes the meal, and it really hurt the experience. Make I house tried another sauce, but if honey mustard wasn't working, I'll pass. The fries were awful, little baby shoe string fries just wasn't good to me. Great service, no complaints there. My husband was craving fried chicken, so we decided to give this place a try last night. I'm so glad we did! I tried the Fowl Mouth Chicken Sandwich after talking to the server about the menu, and it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had. That habanero oil was a nice touch . We ordered Waldo's for takeout one night and I must say I am very pleased. We love a place with good homemade ranch. We had the tenders dipped in buffalo with mac and cheese, potato wedges and the slaw. The slaw is on the sweeter side which I like however the hubby is not a fan. The cheesy biscuits were great! We grabbed an early dinner here on a Friday night. -Found parking relatively easily, despite it being crowded. -You order at the front (fast, casual). They were busy but staff was very polite. -Price was average for fast, casual chicken spot. I also had an adult slushy. -Ambiance is lively and fun. Industrial with lots of funny signs. Apparently, the men's room has wallpaper spoofing different beer logos: Coop Light, Dos Eggies, etc. Everything seemed clean. -Our food came out quickly. -Chicken strips were perfect. Fresh, tender, hot. My son had the house sauce, I got the Jalapeno Ranch. -Husband got the Buffalo Blue Salad which he devoured. -I was so blown away by the collard greens and white beans. I might come back just for those! -I ordered the Seasonal adult slushy, which was peach. It was stronger than I would have thought and closer to a slushy than your average frozen drink.
