Huntsville is the County Seat of Walker County. As with most towns these days close to big cities,it is exploding. Once a sleep little rural town the population is increasing exponentially. The Texas Prison system started here and the oldest prison in Texas is still in operation. Walker county and Huntsville is also home to Sam Houston State University. One of the Key figures in Texas history is buried here. Sam Houston was the indispensable leader that helped Texas become a country. read more
