After a cold and blustery walk around Ryan's Premises (National Historic Site) we were looking for a warm cup of coffee. On the top of the rise beside the courthouse is a small building. Only 2 doors, one labelled pub, the other labelled cafe. We opted for the cafe side and stepped into small town Newfoundland! This is a locals place, with local dishes and house made desserts. We tried a few things, and settled in to listen to the locals and share some time here. It was magical, the food is home style, so nothing fancy, but the people and feeling of an old time cafe will bring me back if I'm ever here again. read more

Great food and amazing service! I was visiting for work and had a delightful chili, lasagna and all day breakfast here. Reasonable prices with lovely and very friendly staff! Open during the office season with extended hours to take care of those who come to bonavista and need food. Also - delicious baked goods and fresh Rice Krispie squares! We stopped in for a drink before our dinner reservation. There was only one other person in the bar and he was sitting in a corner playing with his cell phone. The female bartender had to be called out from the kitchen to serve us and couldn't have been more disinterested. We decided to leave after one drink as no one asked us if we wanted another. Turned out the guy in the corner was an employee and didn't lift his head until we got up to leave. The bartender again had to be summoned from the kitchen so we could pay our bill. Certainly won't be back. read more

Waited at the till for five minutes, while no one would come serve us. More people started lining up. A lady behind us, spoke up, asking to pay for her bill. Buddy comes to the till to help her and she tells him we were there first. Which he replies, "They have to wait." And begins ringing her bill up. Very poor customer service! So we walked out. read more

The fish and brewis is excellent. The chilli is the best we've had, and we make our own. There's a pub side and a cafe side, same menu in both. Very friendly bar tender. Open for breakfast at 7am, open til at least 9pm weeknights. read more
