This review was meant to be posted 2 years ago after my dad's stay but somehow was left in my drafts writing. Sad to say my dad has since passed but the care that he received was amazing! ..... I would typically write a novel in order to best describe to you the pros and cons of this experience but I don't think that's necessary as there are ONLY Pros! Suffice to say this hospital ranks higher in my opinion compared to Portland's St. Vincent/ Good SAMARITAN, Meridian Park in Tualatin, ST. Charles in Bend, all combined. I received excellent, compassionate, and expert care at WMH (ED/then admitted to Med/Surg), recently, due to a bacterial secondary pneumonia, on top of Influenza A, resulting in hypoxia, necessitating oxygen supplementation. All staff/MD's 'lived' their moto; 'we treat you like family'. I am so grateful to have this level of care, immediacy, and staff that go above and beyond; (during a holiday weekend). A Heartfelt Thank You to Wallowa Memorial Hospital I am writing this with a heart full of gratitude to express my immense appreciation for the entire staff at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise, Oregon, where my son, was born. From the moment I arrived, I felt an incredible sense of welcome and community. The hospital is located in a serene and stunning setting, which perfectly reflects the calm, amazing, and loving nature of the people who work there and the community they serve. As a single father going through the surrogacy process--an experience I imagine is not very common--everyone, including my mother and me, was treated with the utmost respect, kindness, and compassion. We truly felt like we were part of a family. I want to extend a special and personal thank you to Dr. Geoff Maly. He is, without a doubt, the best doctor I have ever met. His compassionate communication began even before we met in person during the pre-delivery OB appointments. His advice was excellent, and he was always so calm, soft-spoken, and gentle with his words, yet he kept us perfectly updated on everything. During the delivery, his demeanor inspired nothing but confidence. Once the baby arrived, he was an invaluable resource, offering advice on everything from childcare to what to expect in the coming weeks. As a first-time dad, his positive reinforcement and calm presence gave me so much comfort. I truly believe that if every healthcare provider had his demeanor, the world of medicine would be a far more compassionate place. I am so blessed to have met Dr. Maly, and he will forever hold a special place in our family's heart, as I couldn't have asked for a better team to bring baby into this world. I also want to recognize the entire nursing staff, especially Lauren Macdonald, a truly amazing human being. I had the pleasure of chatting with her even before my arrival, and she meticulously explained all the logistics. Her patience was incredible, and she continuously kept me in the loop on everything, even staying longer after the delivery to make sure my mom and I were comfortable by explaining what was going on and keeping us in the know. Her help with my surrogate and my baby was invaluable, and her compassion and caring nature are what truly make her so special. I'm so happy I got to meet her and I hope we can stay in touch. My experience at Wallowa Memorial Hospital will forever be a cherished memory. My son was born happy and healthy in the arms of a team that made us feel cared for and respected. In the days following his birth, we even received a handwritten note from the staff wishing our family well, which absolutely melted my heart. What a special team to have on this journey! Worst hospital EVER!. My sister, mother and myself came to Enterprise for a short vacation. We all needed this break due to loosing so many family, and friends in the last 2 years, has been draining for all of us. We rented a beautiful place to stay, but we had just pulled up in front of it, when our 86 year old mother fell on the curb, she broke her hip and shoulder!!! Ambulance picked her up,( they were wondering ) and took her to the hospital. My sister and I stayed behind briefly to finish taking our frozen food and putting it in the freezer. When we got to the hospital, we were taken to our mom's room, to find her alone, on a bed and they left her there, unattended and NO pain meds at all!!! My mom was shaking so hard because she was in so much pain... Of course we asked why they hadn't given her any pain medicine? The exact words were " we are busy and understaffed! ???. My sister and I had to demand that they give her something and then they said they couldn't because they had to get approval from the doctor first.!!! What the fu#€? What are nurses for? My mom laid there, unmedicated, for almost 2 hours! They needed to take X-ray's and CT scans, all while, moving and manipulating her broken body, WITH NO PAIN MED's!!! My mom was going into shock from the pain. By the time they gave her pain meds, they didn't work because she had been in so much pain for so long. They just gave her more of the same medication, still no relief. I said to the nurse " Don't you think it's time to switch to a better pain medication because it's not helping her at all. " This started at 4pm and they made us wait until 2am to tell us that mom is being sent to Boise, because they couldn't do anything more!!! Long story short, Mom was airlifted to Boise because they couldn't find mom an available bed anywhere else. We came from Seaside, the coast, and they took her to Boise?!! We have family, work and lives to tend to, we can't drive from the coast all the time! 11 hour drive! We asked to have her taken to Portland or Seaside hospital, because they have a life flight pad so they can land there and we can see mom atlas the time, keep her spirits up and aid in her recovery. Now she is stuck in Boise until she finishes the surgery's and has some physical therapy, so then they can move her to the Seaside hospital! This could have been avoided, if they took the time to call Seaside hospital, like we asked. All I can say is that I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. While we were there, 2 other patients left because they had been waiting forever and not receiving any treatment! read more

I am the queen of emergency rooms. Anyone that knows me can recognize what an understatement that is. I wish hospitals had punch cards for frequent visits - "Three broken bones, and the fourth one is on us!" After a 120mph+ car ride from a ranch 40 miles away - nothing made my heart sing as much as those blue "H" signs denoting hospital ahead. You see, I had an accident. Specifically, I rolled a quad down a canyon with me attached for the first 25' or so. I was found in a heap, conscious but definitely dazed. The bf insisted I go to the hospital, so off we went. (In future tellings of this story, the quad will be replaced by a dirt bike, because quads are for girls). I limped into the ER triage area and was immediately given a room. The nurse, Mary, was very sweet and concerned. She helped me into a gown and took my vitals and info on what had happened. The doctor came to exam me in less than 15 minutes. A total professional, she did an exam, determined that I was one lucky lady to be alive and sent me off for X-rays. One broken wrist, dislocated shoulder, sprained ankle, multiple contusions and road rash later, I was casted up and sent on my way with a Vicodin in my belly and a script for Norco in hand. In and out of there in less than an hour and a half. Granted, it was in a tiny town and I seemed to be the only patient, but that is some speedy service right there. My only complaint was that the admissions lady asked for my ID and insurance card after I'd only been there for about 2 min. Then kept coming back with more questions like "what's your co-pay," "now I need your SSN," "now, I need you phone #." Jeez lady, it's the law that you treat me regardless of my insurance status. Wallowa Memorial Hospital - Hospitals Near Me - Enterprise, Oregon

I am a mother of three children - all of whom were born at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. When we found out we were pregnant with our third, we lived in Seattle and I was terrified because the care was nothing like I was used to at WMH, so my family up and left the big city just to be back here. The personalized care at WMH is undeniable and you leave this place knowing exactly who your doctor and nurses are. This past week we had another emergency with my youngest. She could hardly breathe because she contracted bronchiolitis so I rushed her straight to the ER. We were met by the nurse (Terri Judd) and she did everything she could to make sure we were comfortable while being in such an uncomfortable situation. She dealt with it all - low oxygen, vomit and an unruly sick baby. From there, were were admitted to a room and Kyle was our night nurse followed by Maggie, our day nurse. They made sure we had everything we needed. You know you're getting exceptional care when your sick daughter laughs and smiles at the staff every time they walk in. We were constantly checked on and received stuffed animals, coloring books, popsicles - pretty much everything to make sure my baby kept that smile on her face. Our Doctor: Dr. Powers has been mine and my children's doctor for years and has been there for nearly every birth. She knows how we work as a family and allows us as parents, to help in the decision making process. The level of professionalism and expertise by WMH doctors is something you definitely don't get in even the biggest of cities. My experience with this hospital has been nothing short of amazing. I've used this hospital for 9 years now and my experiences have really varied dramatically. As an inpatient with a serious problem they are very attentive and try their best to make you as comfortable as possible. As a "local" that is from large metro areas, this hospital can be better in some ways and pretty horrid in other ways. Go to the e/r with obviously serious symptoms and they take you very seriously. Go in with symptoms that you know are serious but they don't see them immediately and I've waited 15 hours for a doctor covering e/r to figure out what tests to run. It isn't always their fault, it is a small facility without all the equipment a larger hospital has available and to add to their problems getting blood out of me to run tests on can be impossible (literally). It really depends on who is covering the e/r and if your doctor is local or out of the area. If they feel you are in a "life-threatening" situation that they can't treat, they will get you to a hospital that can treat you and they have instituted protocols to help stroke patients as well as heart failure issues and many others. I hope they do the best they can, but it can also get overcrowded and understaffed but what hospital can't? I have been rather dependant on hospitals for the last 20 years, both in large Metro areas and small rural areas all over the country. I avoid hospitals unless I feel that my body isn't "working correctly" and when I do give in and go either to this rural hospital or a huge hospital I trade off the wait in the waiting room vs waiting to see a doctor the next working day and how I feel after several hours of noticing something is wrong. There are times when I am unconscious and I'm not the one making the choice. But when you live or visit an area that is "out of the way" you can't expect the health system you came from or one of the top experiences you have ever had at a hospital...it varies. read more

We are so pleased with the care given my father in law recently. Both the day and night shift staff were so very helpful and caring. They gave him excellent care and were so very kind and patient with visiting family members. Very attentive to his every need and went out of their way to take good care of him. Even through it is a small community this hospital is top notch. Beautiful, clean facility also. As good or better care given than I have seen/received in larger hospitals. read more

I was a Registered Nurse for almost 20 years working in Portland for the Sisters of Profit. So Ive been on both sides of the equation when it comes to Emergency Rooms. This is one of the best run ER's Ive seen. The staff is kind and caring and thoughtful. The medical staff is knowledgeable and concerned. If you think having a bad doctor is terrible for an ER visit try working with a few for 15+ years! The staff here I can't say enough good things about. They got me in and had me checked in less than 15 minutes. Both times I have been to ER I was seen by a MD in under an hour. When I went into ER with what we thought was a simple UTI it turned out my kidney's were trying to shut down on me. Luckily my PCP caught it and we were able to save both my kidney's from terrible kidney stones that had completely blocked off my right kidney (and were in danger of shutting it down completely and forever) and had 80 to 90% blocked off my left kidney. You do need to stay on top of billing though but Ive found that to be true of any medical institution. read more
