I've started coming here for a few years now, sadly my last visit will be my last. Why? Because Dr. Hong is leaving or (left now) I caught him on his last day. He is by far the BEST eye doctor I've seen. He's got that charming personality that makes you feel good every visit. He didn't say where he's going (guess we're not best buds!) But the reason he's leaving is Walmart bought out his office, I supposed he didn't want to stay and work for the big corporation. Of course this is what I've heard from one of the staff members. In terms of the staff, they're all friendly but I do want to point out it takes forever (for me anyway) to check-out every visit. Note I'm not a local so in the past I had them ship my glasses yet every year, there's at least ONE pair where the lens came off. It might have to do something with my super thick lens but still. I reviewed this a couple of years ago, and things have changed - a lot. Dr. Hong, the optometrist, has moved on to Kaiser Modesto. Dr. Neery is here now. She is cordial, and was good. However, the Vision Center switched to a different company. This company operates on the cheap - there used to be several staff there to assist, now there's one. The man who helped me with glasses was very nice and was thorough, but to be so horribly understaffed isn't acceptable or fair to him or the customer. Be prepared to wait awhile. Next time I need an eye exam, I'll be heading elsewhere. They had a good thing going, and blew it up. If the staff wasn't good, I'd give them one star. read more

0 rating for everything. Doctor gave my wife wrong glass specification, once the glass came back, she couldn't use it. It cost her the annual allowance + another $80.00. The staffs are rude. They pretend to be really busy while there's no reason for it as can be seen easily. Better to go to costco or some other vision center next time. read more

We did a year away because the office staff incorrectly said they didn't take EyeMed. They do! We came back, and lemme tell you, Dr. Hong is the best. My "computer" glasses are fantastic. I had an extremely unpleasant experience today with the customer service manager - Paula at the Walmart Vision & Glasses center at the Rosewood Dr. I was treated unfairly, spoken to condescendingly, accused of having belligerent, harassing and (having) bullying attitude, threatened to be removed from the premises by calling security, all for politely questioning why was I being charged more than what I was told prior to my appointment. My wife warned me that she was charged more than what she was told prior to her appointment. Heeding her warning when I booked my appointment I requested the lady at the front desk (Paula) to walk me through what are the costs I will need to bear for the service. The lady plainly denied answering any questions about any out of pocket costs, copay, and refused to answer any questions about my insurance until the day of appointment for her to be able answer any questions. So i came back for my appointment and asked them about my dues. I am perfectly aware about my insurance plan and I made it clear I was there only to do an eye exam and a prescription for contact lenses only. First, the front desk lady wrongly informed me that I MUST buy both contact lenses and prescription glasses at their store, i cannot simply get one or the other. I told her I have gotten only contacts before, but she wouldn't budge, after a while she went back and agreed to do only contacts. I specifically asked her how much will I be charged. Paula said I will need to pay $19 ($14 in fees and $4) copay for a COMPLETE eye exam. I agreed and went in for the eye exam. When I came back at the counter she said my total bill would be $49. I was not pleased and I called Paula out on it. I asked her the reason for this and she got really upset, she started getting really aggressive and called me names, asking me was it about the money, implying I was cheap and said she will cancel everything my eye glass prescription as well as my contact prescription. She refused me any service and on her own decided to cancel all prescriptions. I got indignant at her behavior and took out my phone and started recording her demanding why will she not provide me my prescription which I came in for originally and which I rightfully paid for. She denied me service, started accusing me of being belligerent, harassing and having a bullying attitude all for demanding to know why I was being charged more than what I was told 20 mins ago. She threatened to call security on me, called me disruptive, she even went to the security and tried to call them but they did not came. Please note, never once throughout this ordeal did I raise my voice or used disrespectful language. Paula then went and hid herself behind the locked glass door and would not come out to answer any of my questions, why was I being denied service. I stood there waiting patiently for some time, after a while I requested the other customer service representative that I be given my eyeglass prescription which I came in here for. The other customer representative then went in and fetched Paula again and made her give me my prescription for eyeglasses which they charged me for but wouldn't give me. Paula then unwillingly came out and started typing out at her computer and gave me my eyeglass prescription and threatening to call security on me. I requested to speak with the manager but Paula herself confirmed she herself was the manger and there was no one else I could speak to. I requested for the customer service number but they wouldn't even give me that. I found pointless to wait any longer and left. I have always held Walmart in high regard and have always received good service, but I was a little disappointed in the way I was treated today. As a consumer I believe I have a right to know what services I will be availing and how much will I be paying for the same prior to availing the services. I for sure wont ever be stepping foot at this location ever again. read more

Almost the entire staff seem not to possess good knowledge of the process or technology, the person who served me looks pretty busy but is not very fluent with processing the order, I see she had problem printing an order or refund another customer. As for me, I got my prescription from elsewhere and they could not figure out whether the eye doctor was legit even after her license number was presented to them, I had to come the next day and before which had to call the other doctor's office several times, and when I came to walmart the second time, they said they called her two times and could not confirm her identity and asked me to solve the problem, I had to call several times and all the while wondering if the doctor had a license or not, turned out they should have checked easily instead of letting me going through the whole process. read more

I was in need of an eye exam due to a requirement for a training program. Also, I have wanted to get a different pair of glasses since my last prescription over a year ago. My regular eye doctor was not taking appointments due to COVID-19, so I saw the reviews here and decided to make an appointment. I was so glad I did. The customer service was excellent and I saw the lovely Dr. Yu. She's very efficient and great at explaining things. They may not have designer glasses like Christian Dior or the like, but I did see Ray Ban frames offered. If you just need a basic pair of glasses, this business will definitely have more than sufficient offerings for what you need. Bought my glasses from Walmart and their outside company shipped them without letting neither them nor the customers know apparently due to the coronavirus. They of course shipped it via USPS and the USPS San Ramon deliveries are a NIGHTMARE. They always find a way to lose my package. Anyways, after speaking with Walmart if this issue they really helped me find an alternative to getting replacements because I am in dire need of new glasses (I get terrible headaches without them). After walking out of LensCrafters because of lack of service, I decided to give WalMart Vision a try. My experience here was great. The lenses are very reasonably priced (not $200 a pop!) and there are lots of choices. The help I receive was terrific. The ladies that work here helped me pick some very nice lenses. I can't wait to start wearing them! Some advice...go early during the week if you can before the crowds. Plus, if you go early in the day all the frames will be out on display instead of in the "try on trays" at the desks. read more

Disappointed and confused in the service. I scheduled an appointment for an eye exam. Dr. Hong is extremely competent and personable and listened to what I was looking for. After that conversation, I was given a couple of sample contact lenses to try out over the next couple of weeks. I wore them a few times and they worked for distance while driving but less so for my computer work. So, I was going to share this information on my return appointment; However, I didn't wear/bring my contacts to my follow up (I wasn't informed that I needed to do that). No big deal - I just rescheduled my appointment. Unfortunately, there was some family matters that needed my attention so I had to cancel my follow-up appointment. Then I had to travel for a wedding. After i returned, I came in the store to reschedule and to see if I could get some samples - since that is what the follow-up appointment was to review. They said that I couldn't get anymore samples. I suggested that I will pay for them, as I'd like to see if that is the direction I wanted to go. But I was informed, "It has been too long. We have to start over." It had been only 6 weeks. I'm sure nothing had changed in that time as far as my vision is concerned - perhaps it was a computer system issue that prevented this sort of follow-up, but there was no other explanation and I was told in a somewhat condescending tone, which I didn't appreciate. So, that is why I'm confused and disappointed. I won't be back. Dr. Hong is great - but the customer service skill were definitely lacking today. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR GLASSES HERE!!! okay first of all, they have HORRIBLE customer service. I used to ignore it because I just got my glasses and walked out but today draws the line!!! they really need to improve their customer service skills because they're absolutely horrible, they ordered my glasses and put in the wrong prescription in them- (the lady Greselda kept saying they were right) THEY WERE WRONG their own doctor confirmed it. So, we ordered a new pair and they got the frame wrong. I understand if someone makes a mistake, I totally get it. I used to work in retail and shit ain't easy so I completely understand!!! But the number one thing is, you have to be nice about it. Happy with the people that worked here but the product is shit! I paid for scratch proof lenses and what a joke they are less then a year old and basically useless they are so scratched. The manager at this location has a terrible attitude. As I sat down with the employee who was taking care of me, she continued to interrupt and ask questions about why I wanted a retest on my eyes. I had a completely different experience. Although knowledgeable, Steven Hong was quite a loose cannon. Raised his voice inappropriately several times during the eye exam (the decibel level was so high during the prior patient's visit it sounded like a psychotic break was occurring). Used phrases such as "that's a constipated face.' Quite shocking coming from the more well-educated populace. This is also an individual quite in love with the title doctor. Although allowed, DOCTOR has been traditionally and historically used to refer to MD ONLY. Caveat emptor. read more

Ok, I'm going to try to keep this short. The doctor is 10 stars. He's awesome! I agree with the low rating on the customer service for contacts. I was told I was getting the color contacts for 6 months but I received only 3 months supply (I received 1 box which has 6 lenses, which is for three months). When I said that's not what I was told, Alyssa said well there must've been a misunderstanding and your insurance only covered for 3 months. So I requested for a refund. She said have you opened your box? I said yes, to see how many contacts I received and the contacts are still unopened. She said "oh I just confirmed w/my manager, we cannot return it." You cannot lie to a customer and say it was a misunderstanding - that's just NOT OK! Either you refund or give what you've said you're giving to customer. One take away is if you're buying (color) contacts, go to Sam's club or lens.com, where it's much cheaper. If you do buy it from this place, make sure it's very clear what you're getting, otherwise, they will just disregard your statement and say "let's move on from that" ... you cannot move on from the most important fact you're denying, especially in times when people are going thru financial hardships! Another important take away is that if you have VSP insurance, this place is considered out of network, so you'll be paying more out of your pocket. I only used to go here because the doctor is great! But now I won't be going here, sorry Dr. Hong! Last and not the least, I do have to admit that they were really nice to come out and drop off the contacts to me outside of Walmart, because my toddler was sleeping in the car. Man, I am not going anywhere else for my vision needs. The wait was normal--not too long at all and the waiting room is separate from the rest of the vision center where all the glasses, etc are. The doctor here (and I'm so ashamed I totally forgot his name) is the best. He is informative yet fun and didn't make you feel so serious like most eye doctors. He gave me comprehensive info about my own vision as well as handling contact lenses which I had not received by past doctors. Shawn, the manager in the center is exceptional! On the spot he gave me comparisons to 1-800-Contacts if I were to purchase my contacts through them. He offered me a better deal but wasn't pushy, rather just gave me options via customer service. When I had questions and called, I was given the answers I needed which resulted in me purchasing my contacts through them and picking them up, free of charge. I was also told about an amazing children's warranty they offer which states a child can break their lens as many times in the course of a year and have them replaced. WHAT? Yea, don't judge the white-trash-shopping big box by its colors. The Vision Center is a gem. Thanks guys for your help and see you soon! read more

I went in for my 2 year fallow-up appointment comprehensive exam & dilation on Saturday 5/26/18 (1st time with dilation) to check the complete health of my eyes by the best eye doctor I've ever seen there of the total 3 times I've had exams done here at the Walmart Vision Center in Pleasanton. Her name was OD. Myhanh Nguyen, Just so happens to have the same last name as my regular medical doctor, what a coincidence! Anyway back to the point. This eye doctor isn't like the fast-passed hurry-up and get you done and out of there in 5 seconds kind of eye doctor witch is extremely rare to find anywhere else she took her time explaining everything to me and allowing me to really feel like she was really interested with a passion to get me the best prescription for glasses! Although she was very thorough in her process of it all I won't know for sure until I get my new glasses, So look for my update on that part in a couple weeks as I will let you know. As for front part of the Vision Center I was Served by associate: Shawn he was also thorough in his work process and was very knowledgeable about how to best pick out the proper frames and wasn't pushy about trying to sell me the most expensive frames or lens options he asked how I liked the last lenses I had in my old pair and they were great so since they still have that as a option 2 years later so I went with that. He was also very courteous and respectful! I highly recommend these two people and Leah who I've worked with in the past two years before to work with at the Pleasanton Walmart Vision Center witch is conveniently located just in the front of the store to the right of the entrance. Don't let the negative Walmart name fool you this Vision Center is a lot better customer service than Walmart in general as you or anyone who's ever been in a Walmart customer service is non-existent! But not the Vision Center as these knowledgeable kind and courteous professionals are a billion times better then the rest of Walmart! read more

if i can give zero stars i would do it. the way i was treated in this place for just being late less than 15 minutes it was completely un acceptable. the lady in charge not only she was rude but she was raciest. i was completely understandable it was my mistake to arrive late in a rainy weather so i asked if there is a possibility to wait and maybe i can be examined but she refused then i asked to make another appointment so she said she have two time available in the next day i accepted one of them so she asked me what type of exam i will do so i was confused because this wasn't asked in the first time she didn't give me an answer but i tried more to be calm and answered her question this were she said no i will not Book your appointment and she will give me another time in the end of the months. i got confused so i asked why she said i didn't show up for my appointment on time and there should be a consequences for not showing up on time. i was shocked of her behavior so i asked to speak with the manager or someone else. she said she is the manger and no one but her handle this stuff. i told her thanks but i don't want any other appointments and i don't want to be examined or even deal with this place again. in the next day i got a SMS on my phon about an appointment i already asked to be canceled. so i called to make a complaint but they transferred me to the same lady so i asked to a different different number or person but she said no one but her in charge and there a different number i can call she give me a wrong number and hanging the phon while i'm talking. i called again and asked to not be transferred to the same person yet they did give her the phone again so i asked her for the right number she repeated the same wrong number but with change one digit in the middle and ended the call while i'm talking again and sure the second number was also wrong. the way i was treated in this place yesterday and today over the phone no one can accept it. read more

Had a great visit with Dr Steven Huang. It was my first time in forever getting an eye exam. It's conveniently located by the entrance when you walk into WalMart. Staff was really nice and accommodating. Dr Huang was great from the get go with convos of all things Bay Area keeping the mood light and enjoyable. Second review here : my experience at the store was ok. You stand around for a long time and very rarely are acknowledged. I was there for 17 minute before anyone even looked at me. Once I got service it was good but the rest of the experience has been poor at best. I ordered my glasses 12 days ago and no one has called me. Finally, I call them and they said they were shipped and will be here Monday or Tuesday. At 6pm Tuesday I call them because I heard nothing. They now tell me it was just shipped and should be I, this week. They will call when they have them. So 7 to 10 days turns into 12 to 15 days. Almost twice what they said. Come on, it customer service 101 people. You may have made a sale but you lost a customer. Not worth the small savings over the private practice. read more

At that time I overheard him advise a lady and her daughter who came in wondering about an issue with her daughter's eye. Shawn told the two ladies to see an ophthalmologist immediately. Great advise. I decided I was going to give him a shot at my new lens business. He was very helpful in ordering my new glasses and addressed all of my questions and concerns. How this place has 4 stars has to be solely on the doctor not the part where you order contacts from. I will never order contacts from these slobs ever again. While I stood at the counter and watched twiddle Dee and twiddle dumb shove massive amounts of burgers and fries down there throats laughing and ignoring all the clients patronizing this place is just shocking that anyone would ever hire these two disgusting women! I called hours prior to see if my long overdue contacts had arrived and they told me we call you when they come in and I told her NO YOU DONT on several occasions so I drove there and once they felt like helping someone they found out my contacts were there but they were to lazy to check when I called! 1-800- Contacts here I come!!!!!! read more

I would never suggest that anyone get glasses here. When my glasses arrived, I could not see clearly out of them. I told the tech that the prescription was not right. I asked her to check the RX on the machine they have there that does that, and she admitted it was off, "but only a 1/4 on all distances" (I have trifocals). "But 1/4 isn't a lot... most people can adapt to that". (PS: reputable optical center CHECK all glasses that arrive to make sure the RX and lens is correct. They did not, or worse, they decided it was wrong, but so what?!) What? First of all, 1/4 "off" a prescription IS a lot! Why am I getting new glasses to see exactly as fuzzily as I did with glasses that were 7 years old, when my prescription had changed since then (which is why I could not see clearly out of the old ones!) Second, why should I accommodate to their mistake? If I get my glasses from a reputable lab, they will be exactly as the RX is written! I'm not going to compromise my vision for their error! Third, I have trifocals, and they have five tiers of "channels" one can choose for the lenses for that. Each tier has a different amount of space on the lens that has the RX in it. The cheapest tier has just a narrow bit of RX in the middle of the lens, but that bit gets bigger and covers more of the lens area the better the tier, and the more you pay. I paid for the second to most expensive tier. The glasses that arrived had the smallest, narrowest, cheapest tier!! That was about 100 dollars less than what I had PAID for, not to mention, that it was the least amount of RX vision possible. They were ridiculous about this, and I told them I wanted a refund on the spot. I wasn't going to let them send them back and fool around with them anymore. Then they tell me "Oh, sure, but it will take about three days for the bank to refund you". Absolutely not okay: any reputable business will have a banking system in place that pays you back right away. NEVER going to them again. Get what you pay for -- that's one issue, for sure. But them dispensing glasses that are not the right prescription, and then YOU have to just see less well than what you paid for, and they never would have said a word if I hadn't complained and make them check??? I'm going somewhere else, somewhere that will do this right. It's what I'm paying for, what they contracted to give me, and did not! read more

I don't go anywhere else for my eye exams because this place is fantastic. I'm not a WalMart shopper, but the Vision Center inside the Pleasanton, CA WalMart is as good as it gets. I have never had to wait, the entire staff is friendly, and Dr. Hong is wonderful. He is efficient, very kind, and knows what he's doing. He isn't one of those doctors with a high-and-mighty attitude, he's very down to earth and just wants you to know how to best take care of your eyes. They have all the same equipment as a typical optometrist office, so all of the same eye tests can be done. Dr. Hong and the staff put absolutely no pressure on patients to buy contacts or glasses through the office, they simply hand over your prescription, a welcome change from fancy eye doctors. The best part is that they give you a free pair of contacts if they have your prescription in stock. I don't go get my exam until I'm dangerously close to running out of lenses, so that is incredibly helpful for me. A contact lens and glasses eye exam is only $89, another highlight. Can't recommend this place highly enough! read more

Is it possible to enjoy a medical procedure? If you have an eye exam by Dr Steven Hong the answer is "yes". He is a total professional who also takes time to listen and thoroughly explains all you want and need to know then writes an accurate prescription. Out front all the staff was courteous and helpful as I chose my frames from a big selection. When it came time to order Gricelda was especially knowledgeable and helpful. In a week I had my glasses, which fit perfectly and needed no "getting used to", which says the lenses were properly made. I am one happy old gal with my beautiful lavender framed bifocals.
