I found The Coffee House online, took a chance, and I'm so glad I did! Tucked inside the Royal Society of Arts, the place has a great buzz without feeling chaotic. The vibe is welcoming, and the food is sooooo good. The staff were incredibly kind and patient, helping me navigate their (very impressive) menu and offering great suggestions. I went with the half-salad/half-sandwich combo and an Americano, and everything was delicious. The salad was the standout for me. Laptops aren't allowed in the first room by the counter, but you can take your food into the many other rooms throughout the venue and there are plenty. It's much bigger than it looks and perfect if you need space to work. Absolutely loved this spot.

The vaults in the basement, look amazing and work well for drinks receptions, with the function room on the ground floor serving as a more formal venue for meals. There are several other rooms that can be hired to fit a variety of events. The Royal Society of Arts also runs several of its own events including lectures and film screenings. Many of these can be attended free of charge, but occasionally there is a small fee to cover costs.

It's one of the few community papers that takes a firm stance on things that matter to people living in central London. The paper has interviews with local celebrities, analysis of local political issues. It's not afraid to have a go at big business. It doesn't moan about them. It attacks them! The letters' page is full of opinions about anything and everything in Fitzrovia. If you live, work in or visit Fitzrovia, it's essential reading.

I am writing to you to compliment the high calibre of staff here at the YMCA. This morning a…read morefemale lifeguard (on the 7am shift), checked in on me to see if I was alright. My swimming cap was not covering my ears (which the audiologist told me to avoid getting water in them). She noticed me pulling on it in the deep end of the pool. She went above and beyond to see if she could find a spare cap for me in the back room and from reception. I do not know her name. However, I would like to give positive feedback about her. She left at 8am when changing over with Gary. I would like to give feedback about Gary who does life guarding in the pool area. I have had the pleasure of knowing him since I joined your club in April 2021. Whilst I was swimming and reached the wall at the deep end of the pool, he introduced himself to me and asked if I was OK with him keeping watch around the area, to which I replied yes. I asked him if he was a swimming instructor, as well as a life guard and he confirmed yes. My initial impression of Gary was one of a professional and friendly person who takes his job seriously and who cares about members' safety. I felt reassured and also confident that I would be in an environment with friendly staff. It is now April 2023 and I can say that my first impression of Gary remains of high esteem. I enjoy speaking to him and have observed he is well liked by other service users (as people always greet him when they arrive and leave the pool). My most memorable times at the YMCA have been when Gary, Sinead (the swimming instructor) and Warren (both of whom I have not seen in a long time), have been on shift. I can say without a doubt that their presence makes attending the YMCA even more worthwhile. They are kind hearted, enthusiastic and encouraging!

I've been here when I was on holiday in London! The outside of the shop looked cosy and the cakes…read morein front of the windows attracted us inside. All the cakes looked very nice and I didn't know what to choose, in the end I went for the 'red velvet cake'! It was certainly a good choice, because this cake ended up in my top 3 of best cakes I've ever had! I think my mum chose a salted caramel cake and my partner chose a salmon sandwich. We all decided to go for coffee/cappuchinos that were also very good! We all loved everything! The inside of the cafe was also quite lovely and it's also bigger than it looks from outside. If you ever are around brick lane (a place which I very enjoyed!) I really recommend going here!

This is the place where Marc Bolan crashed and died…read more Location: Queens Ride, Putney, London Watching QI reminded me of this. I remember the sadness at the time and also the jokes about his last hit being a tree. People always make fun of tragedy. This is the place, and you can even find the specific tree, where glam rock god Marc Bolan died on 16 September 1977. The T Rex singer hit a tree here in his girlfriend's Mini, and there's a shrine there too. Marc was killed instantly, Gloria (who was driving) was severely injured but survived, and once she had recovered, returned to America. The car was not being driven at excessive speed. The driver was not drunk, or on drugs. The policeman at the time had reason to understand that a wheel had been removed to have a puncture repaired a few days before the crash. There is a possibilty that the wheel had not been retightened enough, came loose, and affected the steering. Safety crash barriers were installed after the accident. There had been crashes at this spot before. Mourners at his funeral at Golders Green Crematorium included Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie. Flowers and wreaths were sent from Keith Moon, Gary Glitter and Cliff Richard. His ashes are spread under a rose bush in the Keats Rose Bed, at Golders Green. On the 20 anniversary of Marc's Death, their son Rolan, who has no memories of his father, unveiled a monument at the site of the crash, and announced plans to launch his own rock and roll career. People stand around playing guitars etc..very peaceful. Hard to believe it is over 30 years.

For 350…read moreyears a society of esteemed scientists have been meeting to share visions and learn from one another and you can visit their prestigous address to learn from them too. So...does this society have anyone you've ever heard of? Hooke, Newton, Pepys, Wren, Darwin, Huxley, Faraday, Babbage... Basically all the minds that shaped the path our country and world have taken... the minds behind the engineers of the industrial revolution. And right now The Royal Society is funding research, meetings and outreach to shape the 21st and 22nd centuries too. You can't join without first being nominated as like one of the best scientists ever or something. But you CAN visit the society for wonderful public talks, presentations from young scientists from around the country and for historical exhibitions in the disgustingly gorgeous libary. Have a look on their website for event schedules. I know I'm a geeky scientist, but trust me... I've only ever enjoyed my visits and so will you. Last time it was a Bill Bryson talk about his books, followed by getting pissed in the ICA bar below (although that wasn't with him).

The Kohn Centre in the Society recently hosted a talk with Douglas Melton, the Head of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. The set up matched perfectly with the event, from the reception hall exhibition to the paintings on the Centre Walls. This led me to explore the venue hires... Surprisingly such a luxurious place, with 1500 fellows including 70+ Nobel Laureates, it has a modest cost for public venue hire, esp. those with charity status, compared with those of the Royal Institution of Great Britain. Although a membership only working place, the Society opens to public with limited guided tours and a serious of interesting public lectures. These are the last days of the Exhibition: "The Royal Society: 350 Years of Science" featuring a number of treasures from the Royal Society's extensive collections of archives, rare books, artefacts, and portraits. I particularly liked the women scientists section. It is a fortune that the society offers library facilities (70,000+titles) free to public (registration required) and the reading rooms have wireless internet.
