The first time I came here it was for an emergency and they got me in right away, my dog had to go to a specialty vet hospital for surgery but they did a good job. I took another one of my dogs for nails and rabies. I definitely appreciated the doctor talked to me and realized I wasn't a novice pet owner. They also take care of cats for the local animal shelter.

First let me say, we are thankful he saved our Teacup Yorkshire Terrier, but it ended up costing us over $2,200 for only 2 days and no surgery! We ended up calling Bayou Country Animal Emergency on a Sunday night around 7:00 PM when our small dog starting losing consciousness from defecating large amounts of blood throughout the day. Dr de la Houssaye answered the telephone and advised me that he would meet us at his Thibodaux office on Rienzi Drive as opposed to the Gray office and that it would be $150 for the emergency service which we were fine with. My wife brought our dog and met Dr. de la Houssaye at his office where she had to put up an initial deposit of $1,152! He let my wife leave after about 30 minutes, and then he called about an hour later and advised he was able to successfully establish a saline IV. Throughout the 2 days, he administered IV fluids, electrolytes, and antibiotics as well as did several blood tests, nothing much more. My wife was able to pick up our dog that Tuesday afternoon; at which time, she had to pay another $1,071 for a Total of $2,224 for our dog's 43-hour stay at the vet's office! He charged $546 a day times 3 days as well as numerous other charges! In June 2021, we brought the same dog to our personal vet in Houma for the same condition and the same amount of time, but that visit only cost us $550! Unfortunately, our personal vet wasn't available for this emergency due to a vet in New Orleans taking their calls that particular weekend. My wife spoke to our personal vet, and she questioned several of the charges Dr. de la Houssaye had and also said the same visit would have probably run about $500, not $2,200 like Dr. de la Houssaye charged! I couldn't imagine what he would have charged had this emergency involved a surgery!

Jessica called me that night asking me if I could pay her ahead of time for my appointment the following week that I rebooked. She told me she needed the money. I brought my dogs in at 11 a.m. and kept calling periodicall. Her excuse was that my tea cup yorkie was matted. I went there to get them at 9 pm withitout telling Jessica I was going there. I wanted my dogs. She kept them 10 hours and they still weren't ready. She had no other dogs. Had I not paid ahead of time INCLUDING THE TIP, I would have taken my dogs after 5 hours. My dogs were not bathed nor were their nails clipped. My yorkie had a bald head and her Body had been chopped up with scissors. She looked liked a gremlin. Romeo had not been trimmed. There was dog poop all ober the floor. She probably took a long nap. She never returned my money, but threatened to call her lawyer. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG THERE. NEVER PAY AHEAD OF TIME.
