In the Zitadelle complex is a ritter restaurant, where they serve the same food which they would…read moreserve knights in the 15-16th century. It is immensely great fun and the price gets you all the wine you can drink as well, and I certainly did not remember how I got home as it was a very drinkable red. (I even forgot to ask which wine it was!)
The food is quite unusual, but tasty. Unleavened bread with goose fat was the starter, for example. Then came a nice bone and vegetable broth followed by a lovely chunk of rare beef which is shared amongst the diners. Then came some other bits and pieces which I have now forgotten, though I did not forget about the magicians and minstrels mulling around the dining hall entertaining everyone.
It was a splendid evening, and it is a great place for people to let their hair down in a medieval sort of way.
