Myself and two close friends, one of which is currently living in the city, had to do tonight where we went to the bar and reminisced about times past and the future. What we found was incredible beer selection, including tons of rare beersAnd microbrews, as well as a comfortable location the trend towards an English pub. I'm generally not one for super expensive beers, but I about wet my pants when I saw that they had a Westvleteren 10! I'm definitely not a beer aficionado, but I do know something about Trappist style brews. The Westvleteren 12, One step up from what they had here, is largely appreciated as the best beer in the world. The stuff is incredibly hard to find and even harder to purchase in a bar setting. It was really cool to have an opportunity to try this, in Helsinki, with a couple of good buddies by my side. Call me in the nostalgic, but at the end of the day all we really have are stories! This made for a great one. Anybody who's looking for a Relaxed setting and some delicious beer need look no further!

You order at the counter and pay at the counter as well. They have a small food menu which is ok nothing special. I tried a couple of Finnish beers and they were quite good. Also enjoyed some Finnish spirits which were recommended by the staff and they were good too. Service was very friendly and the bar staff were quite engaging. They also recommended some beers and they knew a lot about what was in house. I would happily come here again. It was recommended to me by a Finnish friend who lives in Germany and I am glad to have visited here.

The bar owner is a total fan of the Texas Tornadoes and anything Texan. He's a Finn, but has traveled to the Lone Star State several times to take in the beauty, and is bringing a little Texas to Finland! I felt like this bar would be right at home in the Texas Hill Country. Around the bar, you'll find posters depicting the likes of Doug Sahm, Dale Watson, and Willie Nelson. There are Lone Star flags up over the register! God Bless Texas! The owner is a bigger Texas Tornadoes fan than I am, and I love their stuff- I thought I knew all their songs, but they've worked some Texas Tornado references into the bar that even I had to stop and think on. On Monday nights, they hold a jam session (no cover!), where local musicians get together and jam on a country/rockabilly rhythm, and crank out the jams. The best was hearing Johnny Cash sung with a Finnish accent! They have an extensive beer and liquor list, and the staff is friendly. The place feels safe, and clean. There are plenty of places to sit, along with some slot machines. They offer the national beer of Finland on draft, Karhu, but most of their best beers are micro-brews from a bit further north in Finland- amazing IPAs. The prices are quite reasonable, and it's warm inside. I had an absolute blast hanging out here, and reminiscing of Texas with the owner- he brought out his guitar and jammed out some acoustic Texas Tornado music. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in Helsinki!

But the fact is this pub has the best selection of brews in Helsinki that I know of. And I don't mean just lots of different beers -- they are shooting for quality, not quantity. Saturday night with a few friends -- no coat check required, found a booth. This place had beers from two of my favorite SoCal craft breweries (Green Flash, Coronodo Brewing Company). I was speechless -- but perhaps the tasty, hoppy Idiot IPAs had something to do with that. I will absolutely be back here.

The variety of drinks is quite amazing for such a small place. They serve beer from all over the world. To get an overview take a look at the beer folders they have that explain where the beer comes from, how it tastes and maybe even what the history behind it is. Or just ask the bar tender. They are happy to help you. The drinks are not the cheap though. If you plan on coming more often or already if you want to spend a longer evening there consider getting a membership card that allows you to get the special offers from the black board on the wall. The offers change monthly and you get really good beer for a quite reasonable price of 5,50 €. They also serve tasty snacks at Kaunis Kampela (which translated means "beautiful flatfish") till late in the night. During the weekend they close at 2 a.m. Go there! It's a great place!

Here, beer and wine from Australia, South Africa and Germany have made its way to the tables. Black Door is a great place with live music every Thursday and a stand-up comedian who entertains guests once a month. It's definitely less rowdy than the other Irish joints you'll find around the city. I came expecting a good on tap selection, and was not disappointed -- started with a couple Founders All Day IPAs. The barkeep was super friendly. It didn't take long for our Fish & Chips orders to arrive -- vinegar, lemon, newspaper and all -- at which point we added a few Guinness pints. O'Malley's used to be *the* place for Fish & Chips in Helsinki. Maybe they still are, but I remembered enjoying the dish more a few years back. Despite the plate changing, it was still tasty and the overall pleasant experience made for a good start to the evening. I recommend the place and I'll visit again.
