The building was intimate and not church like at all. A Unitarian church, as I learned, is sort of an offshoot of a Christian based church but with a less dogmatic and preach-y attitude. I first discovered the church in April 2025 when I went hiking with my hiking group along the Caulfeild Trail. The church was noted as a place of interest in my hiking guide book, and if it weren't mentioned, I probably would not have come across it. It happened to be the day before Easter Sunday when my group and I went to the church, so they were setting it up for Easter service and there was an employee there who told us about the history of the church -- apparently it is open 24 hours a day. They also let us use the washroom. My group and I hiked the Caulfeild Trail again in August and stopped by the church to have a look at the gorgeous stained glass windows and to use the washroom; however, the area to the washrooms was closed. So while the nave of the church is open 24 hours, access to the washrooms is not. I went to the church again last night, December 6, for a Christmas concert with a friend. This time I was taking the bus in the dark, instead of hiking to the church in the daylight. If I hadn't been to the church before, I would have had a difficult time finding it. (If taking the bus, take the #250 bus and get off at Marine Drive and The Dale and walk less than 10 minutes down The Dale to the church.) A lovely church, and next time I hike along Caulfeild Trail, I will stop by and take photos of the lovely stained glass windows.

Other engaged couples need to know that this place exists! I've had the good fortune to attend two weddings at St Francis in the Wood and I have to say, if I was ever to go a traditional route down the aisle, this would be the place to do it! It's been nestled in this little wooded cove since 1927 and while it looks like it's been renovated, the brightly coloured stained glass windows look like they come from a magical time. In the water below, little sailboats bounce up and down. Trees filter the bright sunshine and the very-very-very lucky people who live down this sparsely populated residential street have the opportunity to enjoy its splendor every day. Could it be more picture perfect? It's tough to find, but a Yelp map or some tailored directions from a bride and groom will serve you well. And not to spoil the ending, but they ring the church bell after the "I Do's!"
