Whenever I'm in Dublin, I like coming to this park not only to visit Oscar but to walk the grounds. The park has been in existence since the late 1700s and is surrounded by Georgian homes. The green space is lovely and spacious and has an area for kids to play as well. It's a nice park for taking a little respite from the stressors of the day. Great for people and dog watching as well.

The Merrion Square Park is the most intact Georgian Square located in the heart of the city and it's surrounded by all kinds of artistic and creative institutions like the National Art Gallery of Ireland, the Archaeological and Natural History sections of the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Royal Society of Antiquaries, the Irish Architectural Archive, just to name a few In the middle of the Georgian buildings, Merrion Square Park is located. The park is surrounded on three sides by Georgian redbrick houses. On the fourth side, it's surrounded by government buildings, the Natural History Museum, Leinster House and the National Gallery of Ireland. To me the best place to enter the park is at the northwest corner near #2 where you will come upon, what in my opinion, is one of the greatest examples of a modern sculptural portrait to be found anywhere. Here is Oscar Wilde in all his dandified glory. Fun fact, the Merrion Square Park was originally a private garden for residents of the square. Luckily, now everybody can enjoy a walk through the gorgeous park.

One of the gardens is a memorial dedicated to the local Garda, with the names of all Gardai (Irish Police) killed in the line of duty being inscribed on a roll of honor. Protected by the stunning Chester Beatty Library and the Dublin Castle, is also home to three memorial gardens. Tucked into the corners of the space, memorials to the investigative journalist Veronica Guerin, the 2003 Special Olympics volunteers feature specially commissioned sculptures. Dubh Linn, or "black (dark) pool" referred to the dark tidal pool and evolved into the city's name as we know it today. The gardens are fairly new, being completed in 1996.

Hellooooooo, Bushy Park!!…read more I really enjoy weekday runs here. On the weekends I like to get out of the city and go on longer runs or hikes, but hBonestly Bushy Park is great 7 days a week. There are all types of people attracted to the park: Families Solo runners/joggers/walkers Group runners/joggers/walkers Triathalon groups Bootcamps Youth lounging on the lawns Skaters/boarders/bikers Cyclists People who want fresh air There is a little bit of Bushy Park to go around for everyone! I like to run through the path with the creek and water, but also do interval training around the stairs and grassy hills. There is alot to be said about a park that's free that can provide exercise worthy of a gym! When I go for a run in the morning I find the the fellow park enthusiasts to be friendly, regulars, and welcoming. We have a common bond of getting up early and taking to the fresh air :) In the afternoon and evenings the park can be easier, and while still very friendly and welcoming, people are more in their own zone and we just make room and share space. The sunnier the day the busier!

This park is great and offers a host of different areas. The woods is my favourite part, especially the ruinous shell house and the big over grown roots which i scramble up and down. Keep an eye out for badger and squirrel sets that are dotted around the woods too. The stake park was awesome but now there are no skaters only BMX users! Damn them for getting rid of the BMX park in Marley Park. But a few of use skaters can find some lips and rims free usually the hour before parks close when the BMX bandits go home to finish their homework. The stepping stones are great craic in the summer and a great place to picnic and cool off in the not so dirty water. But on of the best things to do at the river is to wait real still and keep your eyes out for the herons and kingfishers that can be spotted feeding off the minnows in the water. St. Kevin's park is rumored, among other things, to be both haunted and cursed. Early references to…read morethe Church here date back as far as the 13th century(I know, but you can check it if you don't believe me), however, it was later abandoned after repeatedly, and mysteriously, burning down. That was in 1820. Things got a bit darker from then on. You see, the name St. Kevin's Park is relatively new. Prior to that, it had been St. Kevin's Cemetery. Worse, as the Great Hunger tightened its grip on our wee Island, St. Kevin's became a famine graveyard. Not just any famine graveyard mind, but a graveyard for those restless souls who either lacked the means to pay for a proper burial or those, even less fortunate, who could not be identified. Which was all fair and good, but a trip to St. Kevin's today and you'll find that it doesn't much look like a graveyard. In a re-development project some years ago the cemetery became the park. The Corpo offered the families of the dead a chance to have the bodies exhumed and moved to another, more permanent, resting place. Fine for some, but many bodies remained unclaimed and lie still in the earth underneath St. Kevin's Park. Their families either wiped out entirely by the Hunger, or forced into exile. The Headstones were removed, but you can see them propped up against the perimeter walls. Still waiting to be claimed. So don't step on the grass..... Mwuh hah hah haaaaaah!

I have started to come here occasionally to eat my lunch…read more I realised today that even though it was probably one of the warmest days of the year, there were very few other people here on their lunch break. I was able to get a seat on a bench... all to myself! There are loads of trees, so their is lots of shade in the summer for the fair skinned. There is a shell of a church and lots of headstones to peruse. You can even do a circuit around it, albeit a short one. A gem of a park, just don't tell anyone about it :)
