Here's my experience with this business . . …read more I tried to save money having a friend and shade-tree mechanic replace my brake pads. He got into them on a Friday. By Saturday night, I left the car in the lot at Phillips Service Center and left a message for them to call me with an estimate. My wanna-be mechanic had gone through brake pads, wheel cylinders, and other parts and could not get the brakes to stop leaking. I got fed up and just took it to the shop. I got the estimate and it wasn't unreasonable. They gave me an estimate for both doing a comprehensive job (brake lines and calipers) and doing a job that would get me on the road, but the next issue could be 5 or 500 miles down the road. Since my brake lines were not in terrible shape, the owner was willing to do the other work and not replace the brake lines. The short brake lines did require replacement. Just under $400 later, I had new hardware kits, short brake lines, a new wheel cylinder, and the rest of what was necessary to get my car back the 3.5 hours to where I'd come from. It may have been a little more than I'd hoped to pay, but I don't think it was higher than what I would have paid elsewhere in this area. The gentlemen also took a lot of time to explain the issues and alternatives; worked with me to fax and email estimates to get the work started; and seemed willing to go above and beyond to do good work. They did not seem to place a high value on internet reviews, however, which is their prerogative, but did worry me a bit. The moral of the story: these guys could have tried to take me to the cleaners. They knew I came from out of town; knew I'd tried to save money and had a botched job on my hands; etc. They could have said, "We need to replace all of this stuff at a cost of $700 and if you don't like our price, you can have it towed out of our lot." They did not do any of that. Instead, they worked with me from long distance to scan and fax quotes for different alternative fixes, thoroughly described the problems to me, and did work that appears to be a quality job. I would recommend this business. Finally, I waited to file this review to make sure the work was going to not immediately go bad. Also, the business owners explained to me that the bad review on this site by someone was the result of her wanting to have a dangerous brake system only partially fixed. This would have resulted in a liability for them and a danger for her. Her brake lines were terrible, but she wanted the $200 version of the job to get her back on the road, and the owners were not willing to do that knowing a brake system failure in another part of the braking system was eminent. That upset that other customer, and she went and got her shade-tree mechanic job elsewhere. For me, that tactic didn't work, and these folks made it right, and I thank them.
