So i got the family and we got there at 9am which was perfect timing even though it started at 10am lol. The line was short but if you wait till like 10:30 the line was around the block ! Yes we try to go back for another round of burgers lol but line was too long lol. NOW I DONT eat burgers I like cheese burgers lol but this burger here was just mouth watering amazing and I'm not just saying that my 8rld who is so picky about what's on his burger . He doesn't like mayo or onions or any sauce besides bbq sauce and ketchup lol. This kid pretty much ate my whole burger and half of my husband lol needless to say he enjoyed every moment of it the way we did. $15 the most I've ever spent on a burger lol.

It's a seafood festival but omg, there are so many different food types to be found, so many cultures represented and I promise you'll definitely leave completely full (plus pretty tipsy)! Saw this on my Facebook feed and had to buy tickets to it. I wasn't able to make the Sat morning…read moreaccession because I was out late on Friday but it worked out as balloons did not ascend that morning. We came for Sunday morning and had to wake up bright and early to make the drive down. The event is super well organized with many signs and people pointing to the parking lot. Be prepared with cash for the $10 parking. Yup people charging for parking in the middle of a field in NJ. Wish they would just add the price of parking to the ticket price. Also they are very strict about bottles of water and made us throw out our bottles even though barely any vendors are open for the morning accession. I had to rate it a 4 stars because of how much fun I had and I think if you don't get a chance to see the balloons ascend, it's pretty much a bust - so gambling on the weather for the weekend. Fortunately weather worked out for me - look at all the balloons. Love that they played music while balloons are inflating and when they are released - for example they played the Tasmanian devil soundtrack when it took off. There was barely a breeze on the ground but the winds higher up must have been wild because the balloons did not even hang around and quickly went out of view. Therefore I wasn't able to get the shot of probably like 40 plus balloons in the sky. Right after the balloons took off, they had a 5K and the human cannonball was the starting gong! Very exciting start to the race. We then went for a tethered ride which was 25 bucks for 2 minutes in the air and total 5 minutes (getting in and out and going up). Worth it to float above ground and get a sense of you feel comfortable in a balloon basket before spring for 200 per person for a real balloon ride. We didn't hang around for the rest of the day but your ticket allows you to re enter so if you did live nearby you could probably come back during the evening for the afternoon accession. Tips: - check the weather forecast before buying tickets (the organizers cannot control the weather and they need perfect weather for balloons to go up) - bring lots of cash - be open minded and have loads of fun.

It was very easy to reserve the tickets online. For sedans, SUVs, trucks, mini vans, it was $16 prior to the processing fee and tax. We reserved tickets for December 24th at 5:30pm. The entrance to Lights in the Parkway is 1700 Martin Luther King Jr Dr. I put Lights In The Parkway(Entrance) in the GPS and it brought us directly there. Also, there were signs leading to the entrance along the way. At first, we showed we had tickets to people directing traffic and then our tickets were scanned at the ticket booth. After that, we were instructed to turn off our headlights and went through the drive-through light display. It took us maybe about 10 minutes to get to the beginning of the lights. There were lighted trees, light tunnels, and animated displays. I can't imagine how long it takes to put up the displays. For the price, this activity was definitely worth it. It is a fun family activity to get in the car, listen to holiday music, and look at the displays. It took us about 30 minutes to go through the whole display. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long to get our tickets scanned. I was worried when I was reading reviews about waiting an hour.

I definitely would love if they made this longer and charged a bit more if they had to though. It was under 2 miles long and did seem longer than that simply because we were driving slowly, but I would have preferred a bit more. Also make sure you tune your radio in to the station they link up with. It plays holiday music while you're watching the lights. Also also, turn off your headlights while going through. It will help you see things better and also takes some of the glare off your photos!

The food tent is 100% local non-profits (fire departments, churches, Boy Scouts, etc.), so you know the "profit" is going to a good cause. A not-insignificant chunk of the food revenue goes to the 4-H and helps fund this very expensive event. There are no rides, but you can visit politicians at various tents and stands. The emphases are agriculture and education. You'll see cows, chickens, goats, cats, dogs, horses, and a host of other critters. There are also bands and stuff for the kids like operating a back-hoe (really); the Children's Museum exhibit; model trains, cars, and planes; the Rutgers Extension service; clubs; etc. There are commercial displays for mulch, basement waterproofing, etc., but you don't feel like it's a hard-sell trade show by any stretch. If the weather is dry, there is some parking at the site, though parking at Raritan Valley Community College (a few miles away, but with free bus shuttles) is recommended. If it rains, they quickly curtail or close on-site parking and it may take longer for the shuttle service (which is now air-conditioned buses!). The smart move is to take off a day from work if you can, and spend a few hours. Evenings are far more crowded, in addition to dealing with rush-hour traffic in general. FULL DISCLOSURE: My church operates a stand under the gigantic food tent, and I spend a lot of time there volunteering.

Coming to the Scanfest every Labor Day Weekend is a family tradition. It is a little pricey with…read moreadults being $14 to enter (you can get a $1 coupon online or show up in traditional dress to get in for free) but it is so worth it. There are multiple venues that display Scandinavian dancing (I enjoyed watching the Estonian dancers from Washington DC this year), music, and poem reading in various Scandinavian languages and by different people with Scandinavian heritage. All day long and for free you can check out model Viking ships, watch josts, and throw an axe. There is also the annual 'wife carrying contest' which is exactly that. Carry a wife- be the fastest time- win the wife's weight in beer. Shops! Shops shops and more shops!! Get amber and other Scandinavian gifts for Christmas. There was a shop this year that sold products from Sweden (Lingonberry jam available). Food! Yes they run out but every year I get Swedish meats balls, smoked salmon, and Swedish pancakes with lingonberries. Yum! I have to say very family friendly with things for kids to do. And plenty of bathrooms. There are porta-johns, bathrooms in trailers, and bathrooms inside the main building with running water.
