I was really worried after trying a couple of the other sushi joints here in town that I would NEVER find "California Quality" sushi here in Jacksonville. I was extremely impressed with this place. I can imagine eating at a pace like this back home with all the tasty goodness that was offered here. The wait staff was phenomenal; not only were they courteous but helpful and spent time going over the menu with me. They were very polite and eager to provide a good experience. My husband and I ordered 3 of the rolls, all of which were AH-MAH-ZING! Fresh fish, not too much rice. I hate it when sushi places fill you up on rice. This place was the real deal and to top it off, the sushi wasn't covered in "yum yum sauce" like some of the other places do. I have found my *home* for sushi in Jacksonville. Finally. Decided to try Wasabi rather than our normal go to in town. Not a fan of the sushi at all. Got it for take out, got home and found a hair in my first piece. Thought okay, maybe it was just this one piece and one time and went on to another piece. Pick up the next one and there is an even bigger piece of hair. At this point I am so grossed out and call the restaurant to tell them what happened. I asked for a refund and they insisted we bring the sushi back so they could see it had hairs. Absolutely incredible. We came around 7 pm on Friday and were seated immediately. The spicy edamame hit the spot, and the fried calamari was cooked perfectly. We ordered 4 rolls of sushi and they all tasted delicious. We had such a good meal that we even decided to get dessert: cherry cheesecake with ice cream. Even though I was full by the end, I honestly could have eaten another plate of calamari or even another roll of sushi because everything was so delicious. Considering we ordered two appetizers, four rolls, dessert, my husband had two drinks, and we still stayed under $65, we will be coming here again. My first time at this place today and I ordered take out. I ordered the fried calamari, seafood ceviche, and the box b spicy tuna roll. The location of this place seems out of place and just odd. It kind of makes you think twice about going in. Once inside however, its very warm and inviting. It is very small inside but its OK it works. Any who's back to the food, :-) it was mm mm good. My terry steak was cooked perfectly, just right it was not still mooing or killed twice over, it was great! My baby girl went ahead and claimed the entire fried calamari, I believe she let her daddy have 3 maybe 4 pieces and then cut him off! My tempura shrimp and veggies crisp and not oily! Miso soup, awesome, ceviche, good, spicy tuna roll, not so spicy ,it was just OK) could be better, and the shumai, yum. Prices are a bit on the high side, but quality of the food is great, so I suppose it evens out. So far, this place has the best sushi in j'ville (my opinion based on other places I have been to in j'ville that served sushi) and the presentation of their dishes is appealing. The staff is friendly and courteous and the place looks and smells good inside. We definitely will go back, and hopefully next time will have enough time to dine in. I used to be so in love with this establishment with the cozy interior and the delectable rolls, but the past few times I have been the quality has been hit and miss. Sometimes I am stoked at the craftsmanship of what is placed before me and other times I feel as though they just unwrapped pre made sushi from Costco. I guess the difference could be explained by various chefs...too bad I haven't figured out a pattern in the rotation. Go for the Sushi. Wasabi has a very friendly staff, and a decently fast sushi chefs. Wasabi offers, sushi, the regular japanese menu, and interestingly a thai menu. Their japanese entre menus is a 3/5, pretty standard and average. Their teriyaki is applied with a sauce, but the hubby enjoys it with the Combo Sets. Side note, I grew up in Hawaii where our school fundraisers were teriyaki everything. Shoyu (soy sauce), sugar, mirin, some spice and marinate. It's that easy. On the mainland though teriyaki sauce applied after is par for course. I tried the Thai Drunken Noodles and I also thought it was average 3/5. I ordered mild, and they've definitely turned down the heat level for non-thai audience. I'll stick to the sushi rolls. Enjoy the many sushi rolls, a 5/5. That's their strong suit. Moderately priced, good sized, and a goldilocks of not too spicy, not too much sauces of eel, mayo, or wasabi. Nigiri is ok, the fish isn't perfect but it's priced right for the quality. Kudos to the sushi chefs for keeping the the sushi fast with a full house. read more

They're overly friendly in the best way possible and super helpful in telling you more than you ever needed to know about the food they offer. If you want good food and new friends, go here! I got a few rolls, but I always get eel and avocado rolls when I go to sushi. I know a good sushi place when the eel sauce doesn't taste like super sweet artificial banana flavoring, if you know what I mean. This place's eel sauce has good flavor and the perfect balance of sweet and eel. I ordered to go and they offered me a drink on the house and threw in a cucumber salad with my order. The prices are on the slightly lower end for sushi, too. I walked out with two good rolls for just $12. Oh, and also a Californian thing, but even the wine selection is decent, especially for a sushi place. My boyfriend and I will be back again and again, for sure. This is my go-to place for a night out with my wife. We don't get out often, so we love that Wasabi always makes it really special. We don't often find somewhere around here that can satisfy both my craving for incredible and fresh sushi, as well as her intolerance of seafood, but this place is incredible. They've got curry, yakisoba, sukiyaki, and a whole bunch of other specials to satisfy even really picky eaters. The dessert and drinks menu is also more varied than I usually see from good authentic joints, especially this far from the West coast. Service is always quality as well. Wasabi may be a "hole in the wall" sushi restaurant but they have the best sushi lunch deal in Jacksonville! For less than $10 (before the tip), a customer can order a soda and the two roll lunch special. The two roll lunch special also comes with a nice little salad. The lunch special rolls are still beautifully made and absolutely delicious! While I normally stop by Wasabi for lunch, their dinner options are also excellent! Wasabi has unique chef specialty rolls with an amazing staff. This was my first North Carolina sushi experience and I will continue to recommend it! read more

First time at Wasabi, the setting was quiet and intimate. We were seated without wait, service was friendly. I asked for something not on the menu. The chef delivered well. I travel often and ate at sushi restaurant all over the States as well as in Asia and this place is by far, one of the worse. Here are the items ordered: -Jasmine tea which is 5 dollars!!!! -unagi don (eel rice bowl) -tamako (egg sushi) -Tako (octopus sushi) Ok, first of all, the unagi was super sweet and the rice was dry since they over power it with rice seasoning TAMAKO! the most basic sushi of all and they don't even need to make it!!! most sushi restaurant in the states buy them in blocks! well, my egg were still frozen! Tako, my fav. sushi! well, it have no taste to it! I'm guessing it's OLD! Tako has that natural sight salt taste to it and that was what I expected but NOTHING was tasted. Sake sushi across the street is cheaper and taste better. By all mean Sake sushi is not a 4 stars in my book but it's cheaper and have the better tasting sushi in the area. I feel like people often endorse sushi restaurants without knowledge of quality sushi. With all due respect, I didn't expect much from a sushi joint in Jacksonville, NC. My expectations were very low, but the need to fill my sushi craving was just that high. It honestly wouldn't have taken much to satisfy my appetite, and Wasabi fell short... way short. Let's start with their soy sauce, which was clearly mixed with water. When I questioned them on it, they told me it was home made. It was an ordeal before they brought out some traditional kikkoman soy sauce. I then ordered a rainbow roll only to see dried out stale fish over dry day old rice. When I asked if I could cancel the order, they questioned me furiously before finally saying "why you come in here trying to cause trouble?" "We are from Queens! Where you from?" We paid for the meal and left the very awkward situation. I called the restaurant after we left to ask for the manager, and was told to not come back and hung up on.
