This beach is great for young families as it's shallow for a really really long stretch out. The sand is very fine and one of the best in Ontario. Beautiful views of the Blue mountain and distillery side on the left. No life guards here though. Two washrooms on either end of the beach with a foot wash tap. There are a few retro wooden playgrounds in the middle of it. They even have those old style metal slides that give a second degree burn when the sun heats it up but the kids love to run up it. No restaurants or food stalls here so pack well. Rules are more relaxed here, people are having coal burning bbqs, pop up tents are allowed. No dogs allowed and an atv patrol rolls back and forth to keep an eye on things. Very relaxing day. read more

Wasaga Beach is busy on long weekends when the weather is sunny and warm. I would recommend getting there early like 8am early, at this time there's lots of parking available and there are very few people at the beach. The water is generally clean, allot cleaner than Lake Ontario. Wasaga is actually know to be the largest fresh water beach in the world. The sand is fine and there is a tractor that grooms it and cleans any garbage from the beach in the early morning hours. If you don't mind the larger crowds on the weekend this is the beach to visit. read more

So many beaches to choose from in Wasaga Beach area. This longest fresh water beach in the world is clean, clear and shallow with sandbars which is great for kids and families. Beach area 1 can get very busy on the weekends, so advisable to go early to secure a good parking spot. There are 8 beaches in total in the area. Beach Areas 1-6 can be accessed off of Mosley Street, Wasaga's main street. Food purchases can be expensive and limited, so packing lots of food and snacks in a cooler is a great idea. This was my first time at Wasaga Beach! Can you believe it? After reading some reviews and hearing about what people said about the infamous, "nearby" beach, I expected the worse, but surprisingly, my experience defied the negative reputation. Firstly, parking is currently FREE Monday - Thursday until September 2nd. So if at all possible, go during the weekdays to beat the crowds, parking fees, to enjoy the beach in a stress-free way. Also try to go earlier on in the day as opposed to later, for the same reasons. If you're looking to relax, apparently Beach 1 is the one to avoid! That is near all the shops and restaurants. There are a number of beaches along the 14km stretch and they offer different features such as being pet-friendly, bike paths, playground for children, etc. Beach is sand, so that was very nice. Closest bathrooms were well-maintained. My only observation was that water wasn't as clear as some reviewers mentioned. Tides close to shore drew up brown, murky water. Not sure what that was, but apparently water is tested on a regular basis. read more

Wasaga is my favourite Toronto beach considering the drive. When I'm craving a nice sandy fresh water beach with clean water this is my go-to. The drive, especially the last leg, is beautiful too. The water is warm and there are many beaches to choose from. I usually just wanna get wet so I just go to the nearest one as I drive into the area. The parking was a little expensive but ended up being worth it because it was so close to the beach. The park staff was patrolling the beach with ATV's and it looked like they were quite competent. The last couple trips were weekday getaways when I just wanted to 'get up early, drive like hell and sleep on the beach' so I'm not sure what it's like there on a hot summer weekend. read more

Wasaga beach... A staple of anyone from the GTA. I have fond memories of wasaga as a child and I still visit as an adult. There are 6 beaches you can visit, beach 1 being the most popular central beach. Many people say that beach 1 is full of drunk teens/young adults, not very family friendly. I'd have to agree with that, only beach 1 is also known for all the restaurants, retail establishments and arcades. If you forget anything while at the beach, you could go to beach 1 to get it... Or drive about 10 minutes away to a walmart. Beach 2,3,4,5,6 are usually more quiet, especially the further away you go. Most beaches have washrooms and rinsing stations to get that pesky sand off. The sand is usually pretty good, as it is kept clean by park staff, who will also write you fines if you're caught drinking alcohol on the beach which is a big no no! The water temp depends on the weather of course and if you go after a rainstorm prepare for muddy waters. There are two types of parking lot's available, provincial and public. Provincial usually charges $20 per car, and you can't re-enter. Public is normally $10 per car, same restrictions. There is a very helpful map of parking on the wasaga beach website. Who doesn't love the beach? Sure i've been to cleaner and nicer beaches, but wasaga is convenient and close to home. 4/5 read more

Wasaga Beach is a nostalgic place for many people who grew up in Toronto. Most people I know have been to Wasaga Beach at least once growing up. It's located in Simcoe County and It's approximately a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Toronto depending where you are coming from. It's divided into 6 different beaches. Beach 1 is where most of the restaurants/patios and souvenir shops are located along with a kids play area. Most of the younger crowd hang out at Beach 1 and 2. Beaches 3-6 is quieter and you usually will find more families at those particular areas. The beach is decent, it's definitely not the most pristine sand but it's fine to play volleyball on or sunbathe on or just a place to relax on with friends. I can't really comment on the water but many people were swimming in the water on Labour Day long weekend. Parking is $20 for the day if you decide to park right next to the beach but if you are willing to walk 5-10 minutes to the beach, many motels and locals businesses were renting spots for $5-$10 for the day. read more

Don't let the previous review fool you. Wasaga Beach is the longest and cleanest fresh water beach in the world. Wasaga Beach is made up of Family events, like Snowman Mania in February, Concerts in the Park, Free Public Skates, local Photo Club, Art Club and many community organizations, Canada Day Festival, Blues Jazz Festival, Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival, Wasaga Paintball and even my wedding on Allenwood Beach 3 years ago. It's a photographer's heaven. We live in Wasaga Beach and love being 10 houses away from the woods with wonderful trails and 5 minutes by bicycle to the beach. We're watching Wasaga Beach change from a remote cottage country to a year round vibrant community. We're friendly and welcome guests at every turn. People will keep writing reviews like the one below until some tourists become mindful that they are visiting a community and not a party. Meanwhile, we'll keep carrying a bag with us on our walks to pick up left over litter and go on with the rest of the day to enjoy visits with friends, helping out and appreciating each other's hard work to make our home a beautiful place to visit. read more

It was my Wife's birthday and we wanted to make it special, so we decided let's see Wasaga Beach, it was our first time however read mixed reviews over the Internet. Moreover we were reluctant due to the long drive. We took the 400 North and felt the drive was never ending, moreover after the exit the GPS took us through the road and were almost sure it was wrong and that we were lost. But I was wrong, this was the correct route. We reached the Main Beach Area, Parking was ample, only then we realized that the long drive was totally worth it !! The beach is excellent with amazing views. The water is so clear, it's almost transparent. The weather supported us hence it was all the more enjoyable. The area is still developing from the food perspective hence many places were closed as we went on a weekday. We walked along the shores taking in the serene and calm views, every moment here was a memory to cherish. The sand was wavy and the beach is also considered the largest freshwater beach in the world!! Took some great pictures and loved it totally!! Please GO !! read more

World's longest freshwater beach - so there's a lot of sand and water. Gradual slope into the water, so good for kids not drowning. Parking is expensive and the beach is crowded and noisy. If you've always wanted to see Jersey Shore lite then this beach on a summer weekend is for you. read more

So: if you would like shirtless, tanned Floridians (we spotted a Florida license plate here!), mediocre, 1976 fashioned beach town... with 2013 inflated prices... go for it. By all means, get a tattoo under a party bar while looking out on the lakefront. This may be your bag, so go, but I'm warning you: if this was a charming resort town in 1956, it's derelict in its duty to keep up with the times. It's not charming. read more

Great spot. We usually try to go once a year. We don't fit in with the party crowds, so we never go on a long weekend, sometimes we even go during the week. Best time to go is right between (but NOT ON) May 24 weekend and July 1st. It has been updated a lot in the last 2 years, with many beach shops, a great candy shop with things from your childhood and around the world, and a specialty head shop with great selection, all with reasonable prices. They have new places to eat opened up, and lots of your usual stores and fast food joints a short drive or manageable walk away. (Walmart, Tim Horton's, Harveys, Canadian Tire, etc). Beautiful sandy beach with a boardwalk longer than most would walk. Pet friendly, which is extremely hard to find nowadays. As well as extremely affordable parking. read more

Me and my family so twelve people including aunts uncles and cousins stayed in a "beach" house five feet away from the river so you can imagine the view! We stayed for about a week, and my experience was astonishing I loves everything about it the house the river just even the fact that we were a bloc away from the lake! The price for are location and house was perfect. I really enjoyed my time here in Wasaga beach.the waves were huge almost as big as the ocean sometimes. The water never went too deep witch was perfect for the kids. Wasaga beach is a great Canadian vacation. wasaga beach is beautiful but the downtown main area really needs something done we need the toursim in our area it's what has always made the beach thrive i understand the the retirement community doesn't want this but they knew that wasaga has always encompassed a younger crow as well which is great for business and the wealth of our city we need the toursim the casino will bring some and assist the retirement community but what about the good old days the younger crowd deserves to enjoy this beautiful place to and there would be less issues if there were things that used to give them things to do such as water world getting rid of that was a huge downfall we need something of the sort back bring a in water water park set it up in the water have a trampoline in the water and build slides deeper out in the bay there so many options to make wasaga what iit has the potential to be this place could be a wonderful place for kids family lies teens and retirement let's get back to busilding wasaga to be not just a community but a place people want to visit provide them fun and adventure it will only benefit everyone around the area read more

Yes, Wasaga Beach is a tourist town, but Wasaga Beach also is much more than what meets the eye. If you come for a summer visit, sure, most likely you will end up baking in the sun at Beach 1. But what if you have had enough sun and you need to get out a bit, out to explore the beauty of this town? Here are a few tips: Wasaga Beach consists of 5 beaches all run by the MNR as a Provincial Park. Miles of these beautiful beaches are backed up by a beautiful system of dunes, shady woods and serene meandering bike paths. You can spend hours just wandering around. Did you know that there are other parts of Wasaga Beach protected by Provincial Park regulation? The Blueberry Trails section of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park boast miles of trails through beautiful dunes and unique, protected oak tree savannah. Take a map and a watch because you might get lost, roaming and miss dinner. Another secret not shared with many: Go and ask locals for the Nottawasaga Ox Bow. Chances are, not even locals know about this beautiful natural phenomenon: In thousands of years, through the last ice age and beyond, the slow Nottawasaga river has dug its path into the sandy dunes of Wasaga Beach, leaving huge, towering sandy river banks of a kind that you likely have not seen before. Gah! This post is about Whispering Waves cottages in Wasaga Beach. What a pit! Filthy, hazardous place to stay. Owner insists that you agree to pay a $400 (although he amended this to read $300) damage deposit. This is his whole scam. Luckily, I had read about it in advance (not far enough to not book there, unfortunately). I made a written report of everything broken or damaged and took many, many pictures as soon as we got there. Missing smoke detectors, broken futon with missing bolts and bent frame, exposed wires on the light fixture about the table, leaning, rotten wood on the porch rails...we decided to leave the following day. He did not refund us all of our money minus the one night as we suggested. Called the bank and discovered that he had immediately charged our credit card with the $300 damage deposit. We recovered half of our money and the deposit and ran like hell. This guy is not accredited with the BBB, or else I'd report him there. If you do want a great place to stay, try Bruce at Bungalows on the Beach. He is a fairy-cottage-father. Wonderful person, and nice place to stay. read more
