I don't know if it's because it's a small town or because we were the cute little Americans buying up all the candy that is illegal in the states, but oh how I wish we had service with a smile like this stateside! Not to mention the quality of the produce and meats here was excellent. I've always hated flank steak... but the one my friend picked up here and made? Divine. What really made my day, however, was that excellent customer service. Being a small town, we obviously had a major language barrier going on, but every worker still tried to help us through clever use of hand gestures (universal signs for candy = win). Even the cashier had to laugh as we piled candy onto the belt, and was surprised that we didn't balk at paying for a bag (it's the European way!) that she wound up handing us a second bag free of charge. It's no wonder my friend wanted to show me this little shop - you simply don't find quality care like that back here, especially in a place like a grocery store... much less high quality food at affordable prices. Oh yeah, and tons and tons of amazing German candy. Danke schön, Hütschenhausen! read more
