Holiday dinner at Washington Crossing Inn. Service was a little iffy. It was friendly but with the place about 1/2 full, I found ourselves waiting a bit for the waitress to come around for something we needed. Needed an extra fork... a good 5 minutes of her walking by a few times but not looking or seeing if we needed anything. It wasn't bad service but not very attentive or anything spectacular. For being the holiday season, would have thought there would be a bit of cheer but seemed kinda... meh of an atmosphere. French onion soup - a bit watery and not very hearty. Under seasoned. Didn't have the richness of a good French onion soup. Got the prime rib. It was ok. The edges were nice and tender. But the middle seemed a little tough. Mash and beans were mid. They were fine but not memorable. Rigatoni was good. Tasty. Gelato was very smooth and was impressed with that - apple galette which was... good... Overall, an ok experience. The Washington Crossing is a quaint and cozy inn and restaurant which has Revolutionary style furnishings. Our service was wonderful in this casual and friendly establishment. There is a nice outside dining patio. Unfortunately, we went there on a rainy day. The inside dining area is elegant and there is also a bar for a more casual dining experience. Our food was good. My usnbad orders the Luncheon prix fixe. It included soup or salad, choice of entree and dessert of the day. He enjoyed his Sirloin Filet Medallions and soup. Against my better judgment I went with the Crispy Fish sandwich. I generally don't like fried food. The sandwich was good, but it is deep fried. If I could give them a zero star rating I would. I called this morning at 11 AM to make a reservation for high tea on Tuesday. The Inn requires 48 hours notice for high tea reservations. After being left on hold for approximately 4 minutes, I was informed that the Chef said it was too late to make a reservation for high tea this Tuesday, January 20th. When I questioned why, the receptionist said that they required 48 hours notice. So I said that I was calling with 48 hours and that it was a birthday celebration. The receptionist then said that the Chef requires it to be called in the morning and I told her it was the morning. And then I was told that they take high tea reservations EARLY in the morning 48 hrs before! So what is the actual time you require high tea reservations to be called in??? Then the receptionist said that they could make a high tea reservation for another Tuesday or a lunch reservation for the day I requested ! Are you kidding me? You turned down a high tea reservation for a birthday celebration that was called in BEFORE 48 hours (I called at 11 AM on January 18th for a January 20th reservation and high tea starts at 1:30 PM) and then asked if I wanted to come for lunch! The food here is delicious-I have been here a few times over the past few years and I have never had a bad meal. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, but the noise in the room made it difficult to hear what the special meal of the day was. The only negative things I can say are that (1) for some inexplicable reason the overhead lights were turned off-it was very dark-I was trying to cut my prime rib with a very sharp knife-so for the 10-15 minutes it was very hard to see; and (2) the noise level in the side dining room we were in was terrible. It was so unpleasant that instead of being able to enjoy a leisurely after-meal drink we just left. We could not hear each other from the other side of the table. While the noise level is not something that they could control (two parties, in particular, were very loud, seemingly trying to outdo each other in talking over one another.), the lighting situation was within their control, and thus four stars. read more

We had a table for 7, server was not pleasant, like she didn't really want to be there. missed a couple of orders, when food came, runners just passed the plate to one end of the table and made us all pass the plates down to its destination, BUT there was plenty of room behind us in both sides to serve plates on proper sides , Even bus persons were like that, pass your plates down ugh!!!! A wedding in the historic main dining room forced an audible at the line for dinner... either stay inside in one of their other rooms and enjoy a wedding band serenade of late '70s hair bands or, sit outside and enjoy the people watching at the bar and some very active UV rays. Outside it is and the meal consisting of lump crab bisque and seafood pasta was perfectly fine but unlike our recent visits was not outstanding. Compete with a wedding at your peril. The service is always what shines here and we were not disappointed. Although the band's rendition of Hot Blooded by Foreigner was truly tragic. Where's the open bar when you need it. We were disappointed. I hadn't been to the Inn since before covid. For my birthday, my friend suggested we go there after seeing a show at Music Mountain in Lambertville. We called and were able to get an earlier seating time than our original reservation. The indoor seating was sparcely occupied. The service was ok, but not as good as the environment and prices suggested. Water was not refilled unless requested; rock-hard foiled covered butters were frozen together in a trio. My friend had to go find someone to bring is soft butter; strangely, the butter came in a bowl not soft at all and tasted of the refrigerator. We enjoyed splitting our burrata salad. My friend ordered scallops, and I ordered the special mixed grill at $49, $4 more than hers. We were surprised her entree was 4 scallops and two large pills of cold corn salad. My grill was large with 3 lollipop lamb chops, 2 very large BBQ ribs, 3 grilled shrimp, good coleslaw and a reheated baked potato. I had so much food & she had so little protein, I gave my friend a shrimp, a chop and part of a rib. The lamb chops were chewy, but the rest was good (except their l potato). I loved the slaw. For dessert, we shared a strange chocolate cake with strawberry basil mousse filling. We left most of it, including a piece of some sort of red gelatin. We toured bowman's tower and other historic spots and found this place for lunch. It was AMAZING!!! SO historical and fancy and it transports you back in time. There's indoor and outdoor seating, both absolutely stunning. The service was INCREDIBLE. We were checked on so many times and our food was absolutely perfect. I was recently at this establishment for a small wedding. The property is beautiful. It has a small area with a lanai to hold a nice private ceremony. After the ceremony we went to the private room. The house itself is beautiful. Some of the meals were good. The caprese flatbread with balsamic glaze was extremely good. The Mac n cheese tasted like it was in a butter sauce. Really no cheese. The mini lamb chops were tender. The Caesar salad had the smallest croutons I've ever seen with the largest shavings of Parmesan. The wait staff was fantastic. There is barely any cell service there. We rented a room for a memorial service for under 20 people. There was a $400 charge for the room alone and that's before ordering off of the lunch menu. The room we were put in was not handicap accessible which was a problem for one of our guests in a wheelchair. The room was a step down and very dark with no windows. The only bathroom was 2 flights of stairs up. Overall, the restaurant itself was not rustic nor charming but dated and run down. All that aside let's talk about the food: Soon after everyone was seated, the server asked if we wanted some garlic bread for the tables to get started. We thought that was a great idea but didn't know it was $14 a loaf until we got the check...yikes! Well, the bread was good and came with some roasted garlic, a grilled long hot, and some kalamata olives. Several of us ordered the lump crabmeat soup as the server told us it was fantastic. This soup was not good. It was a bowl of heavy cream with a few pieces of crab meat in it. One of the worst soups I ever had. For my entree I ordered the lemon caper salmon. It was just ok and was served with a bland cauliflower rice and crispy sauteed string beans. Others in our party felt the same about their meals....disappointed. Also, although the server was helpful and friendly the service was horribly slow with empty drinks and finished plates sitting on the table for 30 minutes or more. Our entire lunch took almost 3 hours by the time we were done. All in all I don't think I would come back here except possibly in the warmer weather to sit at the outdoor bar but that's a big maybe. read more

Excellent food just across the border with a beautiful old world charm. This was an office dinner where we sat inside, though the outside patio looked enticing. A lot of options to choose from. Folks ordered pastas, steaks, seafood and everything came out beautifully presented. We ordered garlic bread, hummus platter for the table. I tried the crab cakes and it's was succulent and delicious, it came with roasted potatoes on the side. We also ordered drinks, I tried the coconut pineapple based summer drink almost a martini sized drink which was refreshing. We did order a few desserts, mine was cheesecake which wasn't as good but wasn't that bad either. I took the wife here this past weekend for a late lunch and we had a great experience. There was adequate parking in the side lot. We were quickly seated in one of the front rooms. The staff was great considering the room was just about full. They constantly checked on us and topped off our water. The server was prompt, made recommendations and quickly had our drinks out. We both started with the Lump Crab Bisque - dill and fontina melt. My mistake was not asking if it was a bowl or a cup! It was a bowl and was very filling. It made me regret ordering an entree. The fontina was very thick, it could have used more crab, but overall I found it to be good. For an appetizer I also had a Stuffed Portabella Mushroom - crabmeat, roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella. I found it to also be filling, but not worth the price tag. There was a good balance between the stuffing, but the crabmeat was lost in the cheese and mushroom. The wife had a half sized Caesar salad for her appetizer and gave it a thumbs up. Caesar Salad - romaine heart, cherry tomato, croutons, shaved grana padano, parmesan dressing. I had a few bites of my entree ... Chicken Schnitzel - panko breadcrumbs, buttery mashed potatoes, spinach, lemon caper sauce at 27 before I asked for a to-go container and threw in the towel. I was stuffed. The Schnitzel was a big flattened portion of Chicken and the butter sauce was used as a nice melted compliment for the warm bread that we were given to start off with. The wife knew best (as usual) and ended with the Grilled Lamb Chops - green onion, apricot balsamic reduction at $19. I should have gone the same route. Shame on me, they were delicious and would have rounded out my meal nicely. A couple rounds of drinks and our choices will put you in the $130-$150 range. I had to laugh I wanted to check in, but the cell signal was weak. Thankfully Washington didn't need cell service to pull off his extraordinary feat, but when you have great company who needs it? One observation I had was serving warm bread with small cold packages of butter. I'm not sure if it's a covid thing, but a plate of butter would be a nice touch and more fitting for a beautifully decorated place. I would repeat, the service here (except the cell) was exceptional. read more

We love chasing down any historical site involving George Washington. The Washington Crossing Inn is not historically connected, it sits on the site where his army crossed the Delaware River. While exploring the crossing site, a friend recommended grabbing lunch at the Inn. Like you can simply just grab lunch here! Washington Crossing Inn is an upscale restaurant that must be savored and appreciated by enjoying every moment allotted to you. The grounds are manicured to perfection, with seating available under the canopy of ancient trees. But, it was miserably hot, so we opted to dine indoors. And this beautiful building is a magnificently preserved home built in 1817, which greatly reminds me of the restaurant at Mount Vernon. This would be a place to have a wedding! My wife and I generally split a meal. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and the chicken schnitzel. To accompany our meal, we ordered wine and a Cherry Tree martini. Holy moly! That martini was remarkable! Slightly sweet at first, followed by a tart finish ... I could have enjoyed more than one if we had the time. The shrimp cocktail was dialed in! Four plump shrimp nested in a spicy cocktail sauce with a cabbage slaw. The chicken schnitzel was delicately prepared and was fork-cutting tender. It was bathed in a lemon beurre blanc sauce that was properly citrus and teased with wine. The mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach nobly topped off the meal. We have frequented this place maybe 20 times in the last two years. Unfortunately something has changed in (what I think) bar staffing, waiter staffing and food quality. About a month ago, we went on a Friday night and ordered Prime Rib... what a mistake .. It was super dry, over done, and pretty much tasteless..... Today... silly us.... we returned... and found the waiter staffing to me not attentive... although not horrible... and the food delivery time objectionable.... To me, the place has made one too many staff cuts at the bar, in the table staffing... and (maybe) in the kitchen..... Sorry, what used to me really super okay... has turned into a poorly managed location... Talked to the food manager again tonight... Went right over his head.... So sad read more

We ate Easter dinner at Washington Crossing Inn and were very disappointed. The buffet had plenty of dishes, but they were not tasty or healthy. The food was mediocre and the dishes were dated, like something out of the 1960's. Moreover, the waitress was not readily available for the minimal items that we did ask for, and yet a very generous tip was automatically added to the bill along with a space for an additional tip. We chose the Inn for our 1st wedding anniversary dinner last night, and I'm so glad we did! Our server, Jenn, was fabulous - snapping all kinds of great photos and serving us complimentary champagne. She even personalized our dessert plate by writing Happy Anniversary in raspberry sauce. Jenn made our evening VERY special. Our dinner began with roasted peaches and burrata served over arugula. Not the best version of this appetizer ... as I've ordered it other places. The peaches could have been caramelized which would have elevated the dish. Yet I won't take off any stars. My main course was halibut with fresh clams, very tasty. It was accompanied by riced cauliflower and sautéed spinach. My partner had a delicious pork chop with apricot sauce. I tasted it, and it was fabulous! For dessert we ordered a coconut mousse cake with a dark chocolate crust. Definitely the perfect way to end a meal. Love the atmosphere. Love the service. I have been a Washington Crossing Inn Patron for more than 20 years. 9n Sunday, I ordered the Crabmeat And Puff Pastry with mushrooms & bechemal "drizzle' as stated in the Weekend Specials Email. I specifically asked for the Bechamel sauce on the side. What I received was a tiny puffy pastry swimming in SALTY bechamel sauce with 3 pieces of Crabmeat. Ate 1/4 of it. The rest went in the trash. We went for the Mother's Day brunch which was buffet style. The meal is $69.99 per person. The food was mediocre. It's way overcrowded, the drinks are horrible. She never apologized nor did she even try to find out where the food was. My husband paid for our drink and we left. My husband left a voicemail stating his dissatisfaction. There were several young men as staff yet it did not seem they were doing anything. We have given Washingtons Crossing Inn many chances since we live locally. It is such a shame that management has not trained the staff regarding manners to at least apologize and to attempt to find the food. A beautiful garden on a nice evening but this review will hopefully get management to realize this is what causes customers to never give any more chances. This was our first visit to Washington Crossing Inn. There's a parking lot on the side as well as outdoor seating. We were seated in a room with a library theme. Hans took good care of us. We had the soup of the day which was chicken gumbo. It was good. Our main meals were the flatbread, filet mignon sandwich, and burger. Everything was delicious. We had the Napoleon, crème brûlée and cheesecake for dessert and all were awesome. I'd definitely recommend this place and will return again. There's a really cool huge monument outside of Washington crossing the Delaware. The landscaping and flowers are very well done. read more

We stopped in at the Washington Crossing Inn last week. It's a really attractive property. The outdoor dining area is visually pleasing and is a really nice, relaxed atmosphere to sit in. There's also the indoor dining option which is more cozy and old-fashioned. And indoors, you can also wind up dining under a stoic portrait of good old George Washington! For the most part, the food was disappointing. We went with a red and white pizza and french onion soups as our appetizers. They were served hot but they were really unremarkable in terms of flavor and quality. The pizzas were really basic, crust, cheese, sauce - all unremarkable. The soup was okay but it had a strong, overly salty, MSG type of flavor going on which I didn't like. For our main courses I went with a filet mignon with fingerling potatoes and green beans, my wife got a New York strip steak with broccolini, and our kids got the chicken schnitzel in a lemon caper sauce along with fingerling potatoes. I did not have any expectations that the steaks would be steakhouse quality, but I assumed they would be pretty good considering the price they charge and the reviews. However my steak was fair at best. The meat quality was decidedly average and it was not served hot. It was barely warm enough, which is not what I expect when I order a steak. They also put on a clunky sauce which was overly thick and had a one dimensional flavor. It definitely wasn't the worst steak I ever had, but it was noticeably subpar. My wife's steak was much worse than mine. The meat quality was poor. There were a lot of inedible, sinew laden parts and it was served at a cooler temperature than mine. She offered me a bite to try and I accepted but it was so bad and chewy that I had to spit it into my napkin. Really lame to serve steaks like this. Other hand the chicken schnitzel was really fantastic! I can't believe the same kitchen that produced these crappy steaks made such a nice schnitzel. It was crispy on the outside, tender inside, well made and very flavorful. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely and wished we had ordered it for ourselves. Even though our meal was generally disappointing, we decided to check out the dessert, mostly because our kids were clamoring for it. We went with the strawberry Napoleon and vanilla ice cream. We weren't expecting much from the ice cream but it was actually really nice. It had notable vanilla flavor and was super thick and creamy. The Napoleon on the other hand was not as impressive. I don't believe it was made in house and I got the feeling that it was sitting around for a while. There was just something about the taste (almost like a freezer burn) that made me feel like it had been sitting in their fridge for too long. I also wanted to mention the service, which, like the food, was a mixed bag. They started out strong, getting us seated quickly, checking in on us to make sure we were comfortable and quickly taking our order. But as the meal progressed, it became very hard to find the staff. By the time we wanted our check we had to wait a good 20 minutes to find someone to give us the bill, and it was a little bit annoying because it was getting late and we wanted to be on our way. Our bill by the way was close to $200, which I thought was really a lot considering how mediocre most of the meal was. In the end, I absolutely would not return to the Washington Crossing Inn. I think it's definitely overrated and not a very good value. read more

Plodding service for brunch at the bar. The bartender, a senior, was indifferent, slow-moving and confused. The buffet in question was a bunch of poorly prepared, un-loved, over or under-heated brunch items. Impassable bagels. Tough roast beef. The kicker: the men's room bathroom toilet broke and leaked sewage into and onto the bar that was perpendicular to the buffet. I sought refuge from this mess outside where there is a bar, and summer weather. No one apologized nor helped me transport my food and drinks to the (hopefully?) sewage-free outside bar area. The inn is old, I get it. But this was the worst experience I have had in this part of the Delaware River in 20 years. I give 2 stars rather than 1, as I felt bad for the elderly bartender who was, of course well-intentioned. As well, the bones of the inn are lovely and historically of note. This place needs to shut down, get seriously about service and food and of course hygiene. and re-open perhaps as something different and better. read more
