The OR team was nice from the front desk (Dairia) who has a pleasant personality and put me at ease to the rest of the team Leah (pre-op nurse), Sue (OR nurse), Amanda (OR Team) and Doreen (recovery nurse). The anesthesiologist and nurse anesthesist both helped me understand procedures and what I could expect while answering my concerns. All went well and my R.N. Doreen throughly went over my discharge orders. I have read the other reviews which are different from my situation and hope this is not the norm for most patients. For my overall O.R. experience Magee gets a well deserved and solid 4 stars. PS They even gave me a thank-you card with my discharge orders (a nice touch).

Everyone was nice and communicative from check-in to post-op, even the gentleman who wheeled me from post-op (stage II) to my hospital room was kind and assuring. I never saw his face, only heard his voice in my foggy, just-waking-up condition. I asked where I was going, and he encouragingly said "to a nice, comfy room where everyone will take care of me." That was the sweetest thing to hear after the stress and anxiety of a traumatic surgery. Everyone checked my wrist band and answered my questions without hesitation. Top notch care from start to finish. I would give more stars if I could.

Yes, I know, and that time is predictable and can be used to schedule properly; this isn't my first rodeo. Another 2-star UPMC experience. Bottom line: UPMC consistently performs as expected--at a bar lower than any other system from which I have received care across multiple states and decades.

My friends and family who live in the area refer to it to as the Toys "R" Us location, because this was indeed a Toys "R" Us years ago. You can get lab work here, you can even get minor outpatient surgeries done here. A friend of mine had early stage breast cancer and this was not only where she was diagnosed but where her surgery was done. As for me, I have had my annual mammograms, a number of ultrasounds and a breast biopsy here. This is a facility where whatever you are here for is likely to have you feeling nervous, and the staff recognizes that and is absolutely expert at putting you at ease. From when you call and schedule through the day of your procedure, I have always felt treated with care and empathy. I know these are characteristics you would be looking for in any medical professional, but these are some especially touchy subjects and somehow the staff members they have hired here are exactly the right people for the job. The facility is bright and clean, with staff on hand upfront to direct and/or register you. Lots of space to sit and be comfortable for yourself and any support persons you might bring along. I'm glad to have this facility close to me.
