Bought a Groupon for canoeing along the Rhine River for 2 for CHF 95. Having gone a few times in California, I was shocked to arrive and find out that we had to pump up our own inflatable canoe. Where were the fiberglass ones that I was used to?? And was the inflatable one going to be sturdy enough, or would we flip over? Turns out that the inflatable canoe was fine. Instead of sitting on our rear ends, we kneeled in the boat, supporting ourselves with seats that were tied to the canoe on each side. We paddled from Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen, stopping for a picnic lunch on the German side at Gailingen. It was gorgeous going down the river, looking at swans nibbling on plants, fish jumping out of the water, and waving to other boats and swimmers along either side. Kind of tiring, but definitely a fun way to spend 4 hours on a Sunday. read more
