He only works there once a month and does not know where everything is placed. He asked if my partner could collect the watch on the next day and he would ask the person on the next shift to fix her watch. My partner asked for a refund instead as she would not be able to do that. She took the watch to a watch repairer next door, unfortunately the person said two out of the four screws on the back of the watch have been smoothened out and this means he can no longer open it up to replace the battery. She went back to tick tock again and asked the person if he may have damaged the screws because this watch has not been opened up before. The person raised his voice and said that it came like that. He was also adamant that he has not 'touched it'. She mentioned to him calmly that she found it difficult to believe as he didn't mention anything about screws being smoothened out at the first place. He denied making a mistake, raised his voice and appeared angry during the conversation to a point that she needed to ask him to lower his voice. She went to a third watch repairer and was told that the watch will need to be sent to the manufacturer for a repair and is likely to incur extra cost. I am utterly disappointed with the service that she had received from Tick tock (adelaide) and would seriously not recommend it to anyone.

Said watchmaker wasn't open on Fridays. We'd noticed on the way in that there was another watchmaker in the building, so decided to try our luck there. This building is odd. The modern foyer and lifts belie the antiquated upper levels. Long, quiet corridors of white, solid wooden doors. What hides behind them? After two left turns we saw a "WATCHMAKER" sign ahead. Nothing gave away that the business was actually open except for the sliver of light coming from the slightly ajar door. I knocked and heard a quiet voice from inside. Opening the door, we were greeted by a tiny workshop, scarcely lit by a few lamps, cuckoo clocks hanging on the walls, and a charming old man. He fitted my new watch battery on the spot, no fancy tools required, for the cost of the battery only. Much cheaper than your standard shopping centre watch repairs. Coming out, I felt like I'd just been on a strange adventure. I'm glad I found this place.

It was tested while I waited and the verdict was that it would need a whole new interior workings at a cost of $85. This didn't make sense to me as this watch should have lasted 20 years or more. I decided I would take the watch to another reputable company. I explained what I had been told and theytoo tested the watch. Couldn't find anything wrong, replaced the battery and told me to come back if there was a problem. Six months later the watch is running perfectly. Beware!

I felt comfortable as soon as I entered. This isn't a big glossy store with salespeople out the front and workman hidden out the back. It's a small space with three staff working behind a glass petition and a few pieces on sale in the display cabinets. I had a number of pieces but ended up only getting two pieces repaired this time - I had a battery replaced and links taken out of my grandma's Rado watch and a fine gold bracelet soldered. $35 all up and I got a text a week later saying they were ready for collection. They talked me through why some pieces weren't worth repairing unless they had sentimental value (labour far repair far exceeded value of piece). I'm holding onto those until I have extra funds.
