The restrooms are absolutely disgusting and don't have toilet paper. They have junk all over the place on the beach. It stinks like no other at the beach. The "swim area" is filled with seaweed. What it has going for it: - good fencing, gates and entry area - decent size run - dog drinking fountain - poop bags provided - limited views of river What it has going against it: - no small dog run - ground cover is packed dirt...bad drainage - no shade - limited seating - no parking close to run When they were planning Riverstone Park I am sure they needed to check off the box for a dog park, but I think it was at the bottom of the list of priorities since there doesn't seem a lot of thought was put into the planning of this dog park. Access is from the Centennial Trail. The closest parking is on West Suzanne Rd or you will have to park at the parking lot for Riverstone Park and walk over 1/3 mile to this dog run. This public dog run/park is being used mostly by the tenants of the adjacent Riverstone apartments. Add shading, more seating and better ground cover and this is a 3 star dog park/run. Fixed the drainage issue, add a small dog run and better access and this could be a 4 star dog run/park.

I hiked Stevens Creek Trail on a hot, weekday evening. Who knew that Spokane could get so hot. It…read moreseemed to be in the 90s for multiple weeks in a row. My theory is that the desert plains of central WA allows hot air to flow north unobstructed by mountain ranges. The heat didn't stop me, it only shortened my hikes. Stevens Creek Trail is another collection of trails that would give an experienced hiker new trails for a full day of hiking. I only hiked to the top, for a view of the protected forest and hay farms below, but the trails headed deeper in the forest along the top of a ridge. I never saw any deer or bears on my hikes in these forest ranges, but this hike in particular had many signs posted to watch out for bears. I think the sign would be more relevant for evening or morning hikes. All the bears are lying down in the shade when it's 95 degrees and sunny, waiting for cooler temperatures before they return to foraging. That doesn't mean that there weren't many animals in the forest. It was a turkey bonanza everywhere around Spokane. There were more turkeys than I'd ever seen in my life. There were turkey packs in the forest, meadow, in front yards, and even at the bus stop across from the grocery store. It was if they knew that the closer they were to civilization, the safer they would be from hunters.

There was a cool breeze through the canopies on a very warm day and garbage cans to dispose of our leftovers. When we stumbled upon the gorgeous flower gardens, I could not believe it. There were multiple gardeners working outside of the conservatory and although it was closed, I can't imagine that there was anything more beautiful inside than what we saw outside. We were able to sit over at the benches and rally enjoy the fountain and manicured flowers. There was a large, veryrude family that did come through who wanted to scream at their kids and then try to take photographs in front of the flowers like a happy family. Then allow their smaller children to stomp through the flowers and scream loudly while they stared at their phones. And there were of course at least two young ladies posing for "the gram" that picked flowers and made obnoxious gestures in ridiculously skimpy clothes... I guess those types of things can't be helped these days and they are no reflection on the garden itself, just be prepared for your peace to be interrupted. We also made a quick stop at the Rose garden which I did not find to be quite as beautiful but smelled lovely... There were just too many bugs and it was there were just too many bugs and it was far too warm to spend much time there. If I lived closer to this park, I would come everyday to listen to the sound of the fountain and appreciate the beauty of the topiaries and flowers and I would recommend a stop here for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.

The river has so many spots and this was just one of them that we had found. Wide open spaces, creekside stream sounds, children laughing, wine coolers in tumblers...all of the above. We had a great time and it was calm and warm for it still being May. Great walking and hiking spaces too.

Classic hiking trail on Spokane's north side. From the Indian Painted Rocks trailhead, you can go…read moreeast, west, or north, thought the traditional route is to the west. This trail runs past ancient Native American pictographs before taking a lazy stroll amidst the singing birds of the Little Spokane River. At the west end of the path, you can turn north and explore the Knothead Valley trail which winds up through ponderosa pines and gives stunning views of the Spokane River below. The 6.5 mile loop drops back across the valley before turning south and ending back at the Painted Rocks trailhead for a solid outing. If you are looking for a longer excursion or just want more time along the river, the easterly trail (across the street and south across the bridge) adds another couple of miles of waterfront scenery.
