I cannot speak to this place in its current state. I have not been there for about 10 years, but as a kid this place was Shangrila. They had full size replicas of Native American longhouses, a museum type room with tons of stuffed animals that represent the indigenous fauna of the region. They always held an annual spooky woods walk for Halloween. Once I got older the trails were ideal for walking around in search of places to raise a bit of Hell. I also attended a summer day camp here when I was probably seven and remember it fondly. read more

Waterman is a local treasure,according to a relative who has hiked all over the U.S. and in other countries, greatly dependent on the hard work of volunteers in maintaining the trails, especially with the floods the area has had in the past few years. I hiked there yesterday and today. After the last big flood some of the hiking bridges were washed out. They've mostly been now replaced. In past years the mushroom display was awesome, purples, etc. Today, I saw only tiny red ones which looked like they'd been smashed, possibly by the kids I encountered coming up the red trail. Adults need to supervise better. I've also seen people with dogs on the trails, even though there's a clear sign forbidding dogs. The place would be much more lovely if there were more volunteers and fewer people breaking the rules. read more
