They had a pretty decent selection, including multiple cafes (I don't really see the point of having two in a bookshop? surely having one cafe and more space for books would be a better idea or even space for toilets etc?) There wasn't a great deal of staff around the shop floor, I only noticed one person working at the tills which was a shame, and when it did get a little busy it would be hard to ask for assistance or where something is for example. The store did have slightly too many stands in the way, which meant pass through the store was slightly difficult, but this wasn't as bad as other stores. Overall a decent Waterstones store, it feels quite modern and does stand out compared to other branches I've visited, space could be utilised better with perhaps more staff to satisfy demand and offer assistance from locating to recommending a book. 3*

I've actually picked up quite a few books here over the past year and I've always had a pretty good experience. In the cases where I came in and been a pain in the ass and asked them for a book with the vaguest of details, they've always been eager to help and very pleasant. Prices are good too, though I have to say, the selection is light for areas like travel and non-UK history. Recommended bookshop.

Yet another Waterstone's, this one perhaps medium in size, with a great selection of Children's…read morebooks along with all of the other usual stuff. Great place to stop and browse after Gymboree, but watch out for late afternoon when it gets swamped with parent/carers and younger kids. I'm all for encouraging a love of books in our children, but not when the place becomes a busy library rather than a shop for nice new books. This particular shop also lacks a decent magazine selection, lucky Sainsbury's in downstairs and there is a WHSmith down Finchley Road towards Swiss Cottage tube.

Broadly speaking non fiction is upstairs (some sections here are poorly stocked- I've always found the languages section especially poor). The most positive factor in the store are the staff; this is definitely the store to go to if you are not sure about a title, etc. as they will go out of their way to track down what you are looking for. If however you are buying a best selling book they will usually be much cheaper at Sussex Stationers about 200yards further down the shopping precinct.

However, if you are looking for advice, inspiration or individuality, Waterstones is not a good fit. This branch tries to provide some kind of local focus with a book club and staff recommendations. However, none of this works and this Waterstones feels just as anonymous and just as corporate as all the others. If you know what book you are buying and it is urgent (i.e. an internet purchase is out of the question), this shop might fit the bill. However, in all other circumstances, look elsewhere.

The lay-out is the same as every other medium-sized Waterstones, and the prices are usually higher than those of an online shop, as you might expect given that Waterstones has a fair amount of real estate to pay for, compared to the online shops. The main appeal, however, lies in being able to get your hands on a book immediately, making this an ideal place for those of us who lack the foresight to plan ahead in terms of birthday gifts, secret Santa presents and farewell gifts. The staff are generally friendly; the lady who served me today had a friendly word for all of us customers, which is what's needed to make a chain stand out. I'd give 3.5 stars but as half-stars aren't permitted, I'm rounding up.

A large tidy branch, that holds a lot of stock; they have quite a big selection of CDs and DVDs as…read morewell as stationary, diaries etc, although these don't seem to vary very much year to year. They have a large section devoted to greeting cards and another for books and then an entire wall for magazines, I think you'd find most unusual/specialist titles in there. There are not many tills, but I've not ever have to queued for too long in there. They tend to have soem good things in the bargain bins around the shop as well.

Having re-arranged the tills, the queueing system does work well but I have had to wait several minutes at peak times. Certain parts of the store can be a little cluttered, although this may be generic to the brand. Book prices are often not as aggressive as Waterstones, and always much more than the supermarkets.
