I didn't see Debbie's name in these reviews, which felt like an oversight worth correcting. We're so grateful we found her. Our 4-year-old had always loved the water until a couple of bad experiences getting water in her nose during lessons turned into a real fear of it. Eventually, even getting her ears wet was off the table. We tried well-regarded instructors, but somehow seemed to be going backward and had pretty much resigned ourselves to waiting another year. Debbie was our last try, mostly because she happened to fit our schedule. I have no idea what kind of negotiations took place in that pool, but apparently Debbie is very persuasive. By the end of the first lesson, our daughter was putting her head underwater and beaming with pride. By lesson two, she was dunking herself, popping back up asking to do it "again! Again!", pushing off the wall, and starting to float on her back. After watching her fear build all summer, the turnaround has been incredible. She now looks forward to swimming every week and can't wait to see Debbie. Her confidence and skills have come so far in such a short time, but most importantly, the joy is back. Debbie clearly has a gift with nervous little swimmers, along with such a warm, easy way about her. If you have a child who's developed a fear of the water, I can't recommend Debbie highly enough. We started swim classes in September of last year, but over the first several months there was minimal progress. Our child is particularly sensitive and anxious in the water, and likely needed a more tailored, confidence-based approach. We made an effort to encourage her to push through and stay consistent with the program. However, during that time her discomfort increased, and she became more resistant to participating in lessons--to the point where we were close to discontinuing classes altogether. We later had two or three makeup sessions with Stephanie, during which we observed clear and immediate improvement. After switching our regular schedule to a more suitable day for us and having Stephanie as the permanent instructor, the progress accelerated significantly. In less than a month, our child became noticeably more comfortable in the water. She no longer shows the same level of fear. This is not a reflection on the previous instructor's ability, but rather a difference in fit and teaching approach. The connection and method used by Stephanie have proven to be more effective for our child's needs. There was a recent comment from staff noting that our child does not meet Level 3 criteria. While we understand that evaluations follow established standards, our primary goal is water safety, confidence, and functional swimming ability. From that perspective, the progress made in the past month is substantial and meaningful, especially compared to the prior seven months, and it's largely thanks to Stephanie. We've been coming to Waterworks for the past few months, and I can't say enough wonderful things about Stephany and Monique! My 5-year-old son absolutely loves his swim lessons thanks to their patience, encouragement, and fun teaching style. My elder son has been learning swim here for these two summer. We have positive experiences with his instructors. My little son who is four years old started this year. We do see his progress little by little, which is fully meet our expectations. We do appreciate his instructor as well at this point, but today we received a bad feedback. At first, the instructor was late for 4 minutes and finished the class 1 minute early. I asked if he could do make up. He said sure. After they are done the class, he gave me an attitude and told me he couldn't teach my little son anymore because my kid didn't listen. He pushed us to switch to another instructor. I'm so disappointed if this whole thing is because I asked for the time compensation. If the instructor did feel difficult to teach my kid, I apologize and would consider another school who has higher capability to teach my kid. read more

I was looking for semi private lessons for my two kids since too many kids in a swim class makes me nervous. Waterworks has a lane in LA fitness and you can change your kids in a little pod on the deck. James was great with both kids, switching them on and off. My daughter loved it so much she threw the biggest tantrum when we got out of the pool. I like that the lessons are affordable, we signed up for twice a week, very flexible, and you can schedule online easily. read more

My daughter has been taking lessons with Stewart for almost a year. At first I was concerned about how she would react with a male instructor, but after the first lesson, I was glad that he was her instructor. He makes lesson fun and enjoyable for his students, but is very detailed with swimming technique. My daughter has already moved to Level 6 and she couldn't be happier with him. The swim school office is helpful in setting up lessons and makeups, and if there are any issues to be resolved, they are on top of it. read more

Great location and great instructors! My daughter had some problems with listening because she was so excited to always be in a pool, but the instructors were great at getting her to refocus back to her activity. They all have a unique style of teaching, and they are all really good at what they do! I would say the only reason I give this location a 4, rather than 5 stars is because her lessons were cancelled quite often. It was at least weekly for a span that "the instructor wasn't available", which telling a 6 year old swim isn't happening leads to tears and that's never fun. I am not sure if it just randomly happened to work out that way just for us, but it was a disappointment. Other than that, and hopefully that doesn't happen often with others, I would still highly recommend this location. read more

Finally I have learnt to swim!! At waterworks with coach Stewart and Linda - LA fitness Arcadia location. I wish I have signed up much earlier. Both Linda and Stewart are very professional and patient with me. Being the only middle aged adult swimmer in the pool among many 5 years old kids, I might be a slow learner, but with both coaches help I have overcame my fear with water and call myself a swimmer!! Overall, all the instructors in Waterworks Arcadia are very nice and passionate in helping kids to learn and love swimming. Something special about teacher Rita made my daughter fall in love with swimming, she looks forward her swimming day and during swimming she pays full attention to her teacher she's happy excited and motivated. Our drive from Covina to the Sierra madre location it's worth every mile to see our daughter smile and swimming process. I have been taking my daughter to Waterworks-Arcadia for over a year now. I love this location because it is close to my house, and it usually isn't too crowded compare to other swim schools. My daughter started when she was a bit over three years old. She had coach Aimee (who is no longer there) to start with, and she loved her; however, coach Aimee left after 3 lessons. I had her try another girl coach, and she was frightened after the lesson. She refused to swim from then on. I finally convinced her to give Coach Linda a try, and it has just been great since! Coach Linda is sweet and patient; yet, she makes sure my daughter has correct form before she moves her to the next level! I'm very satisfied with her teaching style, and most importantly, my daughter loves Coach Linda, and loves swimming now. I have recommended Coach Linda to many of my friends, and my 3 year old son will start with her next week too! read more

My daughter has been with this Arcadia's waterworks for more than a year. All the instructors are great but the best is Linda. She is patient, knows how to work with little kids and be firm when is needed. I strongly recommend her. For the facility- I am disappointed because the water is not as warm as what they said it was (Never been on 84 degree) . The management took the outlet from the outside of the pool, so we can't use the hair dryer. It's very disappointing because we need to dry our kids's hair for not getting sick especially in the winter 5 stars is for the instructors. 2 stars is for the facility. read more

We have two daughters, the oldest has taken lessons since she was 6 months old until now (4 years), and our younger one has been taking lessons for the last several months. This is a really nice place with dedicated and patient teachers. We have had Alex for the past couple years, and she is absolutely fantastic, getting the most from our older one without making her feel overwhelmed. They use a solid and comprehensive curriculum, that scales from baby starting out all the way to competitive high school athlete. It gets very crowded and chaotic at certain popular times, and finding a shower stall during those periods is sometimes dicey, but they do a good job of keeping the place clean and functional despite the rush. read more

I took one on one swimming lessons for 9 months with Daniel Patronilo at the LA Fitness location. Dan was patient and supportive with me during the lessons. In the beginning when I had trouble, he tried thinking of solutions to help me, even asking other instructors for suggestions. In addition, he gave me helpful tips for practicing on my own. I know that Dan is also great with children from watching him teach students who are younger than me. After 72 lessons, my fears of swimming is conquered and I can confidently swim freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. I liked the LA fitness location because I can practice during the gym hours. The price is also cheaper compared to the location in Pasadena. One of the things that I liked about Waterworks is that the schedule is flexible. I didn't have to commit to one time, rather I scheduled lessons whenever I was available. The online booking system is great except that after I reached level 11 I had to call in to schedule lessons because I couldn't choose Dan as my instructor. Dan is the best and I recommend students of all ages to take lessons with him. read more

I was skeptical at first with the 20 minute lessons. But I'm sold! Stewart is awesome with kids. He's both patient and fun and always on time. He never wastes any time during the lessons. And most importantly--my girls love him and look forward to his lessons every week. Cameron, the manager at this location, is also very helpful and accommodating. The lessons are not the cheapest. I have two kids ages 7 and 10 that have been taking weekly swim lessons with instructor Alex for the past 12 weeks. I see good progress. I appreciate her pushing my kids to the next level as they are very high energy and enjoy her challenging them. I also like the detailed parent report after every session and answering any questions or concerns at that time. I think most of the instructors are good as well. I did have a misunderstanding with the payments and recording the classes in their system which they were able to smooth out and restore. My overall experience is good with waterworks. Over the past three months my three kids have been taking swimming lessons at this location. My eldest one started lessons first, and switched twice for different instructors due to staff changes. Our current instructor Stewart is very good with kids. He makes the lessons fun, and motivates them to try their best. My youngest one started the first lesson with crying and screaming. Now, she cannot wait to go swimming every week. Stewart also shares with us the progress at the end of every lesson. We are very pleased to have such attentive teacher. I also like that I received phone and e-mail notification when there was a schedule problem. In addition, the headquarter maintains the quality of lessons by sending manager onsite to review the instructors periodically.
