And they played a song that I had never heard but really liked, and I was able to go to their website and find it easily on their playlist. STAR 102.5, thank you for keeping me entertained on my long, boring drives whilst in Buffalo.

NPR has been a staple in my home my whole life. While there was a brief time I listened only to…read moremusic on the radio, I came back to my roots as an adult. I enjoy NPR overall. Yes, they are skewed a little more left than I always appreciate. Yes they are formulaic. Yes they tell somewhat random and irritating stories on occasion. But they also have some of the smartest and most in-depth reporting you can find these days, especially in the "everything's moving at light speed" world we are now in. Buffalo is lucky to have WBFO and Canada is lucky we have it too. You can get the station well into Canada. They carry a lot of the national programming as most NPR stations do, but they have a nice local flavor as well. Its easy to admit, on the rare occasion I listen to the radio, that I'm a fan of this station.

This NPR franchise keeps me tuned in to local, as well as national, events. I feel connected to the…read moreworld around me in a way that only radio can accomplish. From early AM news to Fresh Air, there's no way to learn more in such a short amount of time. The Capitol Report has educated me on New York politics. I had no idea how divided "upstate" and NYC are - you wouldn't really understand the breadth of issues just reading the local papers. As a blues fan, I can get my fix, and on the weekend, tooling around to shop at consignment and thrift shops, I get a good laugh with Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me.

They play standards and movie themes and mid century classics, as well as the cheesy love songs we hate to admit we know every word to - Olivia Newton John! If you're over 40 you will remember many songs from when you visited your grandparents and a radio was playing in the garage or kitchen. If you're under 30 and want to learn how American music changed and progressed over 5-6 decades, spend a few hours taking it in.

I love that Buffalo has this free newspaper focusing on the Arts around town. The articles are…read moreleft leaning as the other reviewer mentions. But who cares? Don't red them if you don't want to. You'll still get great info on the local art scene and openings schedules etc. They have a lot of advertising, much of it "adult" so be prepared for that. Since it's free and can e found all over town you may have to keep it out of your kids hands while you wait for a fajita at Lone Star or have a coffee at Spot. 3 stars for the advertising content. Would be 4 without that given the plethora of info to be found inside the pages.

This is a free publication which does a great job of chronicling all things Buffalo. I've been in it many, many times. The only reason it loses a star is that when I released some of my epic and very popular albums, which sold more than any Buffalo artist did in those years except for maybe the Goos and such (I'm serious... one of them sold 20k!), I didn't get any recognition at all from the ArtVoice music awards. They gave all their best albums and best newcomer awards to people that only sold records to 5 family members and such. It's okay though... my music wasn't cool enough for AV. That doesn't change the fact that it's a fantastic free local paper and I support them completely!
