It is hilly and guarded by large sections of heather. There are no bunkers, but who needs them when the heather is more treacherous. Get into them and you have to take your medicine and just get out. This course is not for the faint hearted. Standing on the Tee you are faced with a long carry to the fairway. You need distance, accuracy and a lot of balls! Hikers and dogs are welcome. You will see many Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels etc happily running around, some with their golfing owners and others with non golfers. We encountered a few groups of hikers on the course who were oblivious of the dangers of a golf ball. Once it leaves my club head the ball has a mind of it's own, determined to go where I did not intend it to! It is a great course worth playing again!

In terms of the facitilies at the venue, they have an excellent sports facility. It isnt huge but is very client facing and the staff make an effort to know you which you dont get from the bigger chains. They also offer an excellent carvery on a Sunday. Considering it is such a gorgeous venue the price is very reasonable and is surprisingly child friendly. I would book early to avoid disappointment though (especially on occasions such as mothers day etc). The one thing that I notice time after time is the quality of the staff. They are always well presented, polite and friendly which goes a long way.

Well, ok, you're hitting a ball at a screen so not walking too far, but at least you're standing up and moving your arms... However, it's not easy. I've not played golf much and this activity requires some level of technique above 'aim and hit'. For a start, you have real clubs so you have to know what the benefit of each number is. Secondly, if you're not very good like me, then your ball will either go into a lake, a sandpit or nothing at all and you will get more shots. This means the embarrassment lasts longer as you take more and more shots to achieve the same distance that your better playing friend hit in one. I also liked the central location as it's inside High Street Kensington Tube station. There's a full bar inside so you can drink while you play, hoping it might relax you into being a better player. Low marks come from the fact that it's more expensive than bowling (£50 per simulator per hour at weekends). For that price, I'd rather bowl as you can get away with throwing hard and a bit of luck, whereas Urban Golf is more technical.

The condition of the golf course was superb and the best I've seen on a links course in a long time. From the moment we arrived at The Lodge, the service was fantastic. Great food and an extensive selection of gin! We were also looked after extremely well at the club and the guys in the pro shop really took the time to make us feel welcome. All in all, I can't fault Princes as a venue. Everything was first class - it's the perfect choice for a golf trip.

Also found myself in a big ditch after using the driver on the 8th (blind shot down the hill). I'll notch this up to a learning experience. Much tighter fairways than I am used to so quite a challenge but fantastic setting. The course was in poor condition in my opinion as it has been so dry which resulted in hard ground and some cracking on/around the greens. Also, astroturf path on approach to 2nd green which is poor design and none of the bunkers had been raked. I would be disappointed if I had paid standard day rate but as a twilight round it represents good value for money. The light went after 9 holes so I can't comment on the back 9 but I understand they are perhaps better than the front holes. The bar was open when I arrived but had shut by the time we finished (9pm) so I cannot comment on it. The pro shop looked good.

The venue was perfect for our 80+ guests. The buffet was served promptly, was attractively presented and the food fresh and interesting. The staff worked hard all night and were cheerful and helpful throughout. We had a fantastic evening and many of our guests have since commented on the overall excellence of the venue and the food.
