On a sunny Saturday there can be nothing better than sitting in a pretty courtyard eating cheese and drinking wine with the love of my life. (I mean the other love, the one not wine or cheese) I loved the fact that I could ask for wine, pink, so dry my mouth puckers like this, so cold it cracks the enamel on my teeth - and get the right thing. I thought she was a resident who had escaped from a care home. Working in care with the elderly myself, I went over to her and ask if she's ok. She quickly gripped onto my arm, started charging me up the road, rammed a tenner into my hand, led me to bargain booze and demanded I buy her some vodka. So I did. And somehow I ended up back at her house which had no carpet, just a sea of letters and bills and newspapers and general crap. Anyway, I didn't get ID'd and the vodka was cheap. The end.

It is without doubt jammed packed with lots of variety of beer, wine and spirits. I would be surprised if they didn't have what you wanted. They also sell your daily newspapers and cigarettes and also have a cold fridge with selected beverages in just in case you don't have time to cool your drinks down before wanting to drink them. They do offer some good prices on things and also have good deals on throughout the year.

Red Zebra have a large range of fine ales, wines and spirits, and offer more than your regular off-licence. The owner is very knowledgeable, and will give advice on which wine to choose for a particular occasion, or to suit someone else's tastes. They have just started offering tasting evenings, with a different selection of wines or other drinks at each evening, a great opportunity to taste something you may not have tried before.

The bar is well stocked with real ales including the famous 'Porter', as well as a selection of strong fruit wines. Be careful of the bar itself though, it is sloping, so if you put your pint on it, you will soon be wearing it! The lounge area has a good range of comfortable seating, as well as large roaring fire. A great place to sit with a good pint and debate the ways of the world. Upstairs is a traditional pub skittle alley which you can hire out, which we did as parts of a work's do. The alley is housed in a large room away from then main pub. A little on the rustic side, with old doors to protect the room from any errant bowls, but comfortable nonetheless, with an area to seat about thirty. The room was extremely cold though, the two coal fires were welcome but failed to really heat the room hardly at all. The bowling was entertaining though, as we split ourselves into two teams, it became very competitive, with anybody with a modicum of skill being applauded loudly! The food was truly great as well, chicken curry and cottage pie, mushy peas and chips, never tasted so good. A great venue, a great night, to which I would recommend to anyone. At the end of February there is a 'Beer and Bangers' event!
