The heated outdoor pool is excellent and becomes a child free zone at certain times of day which is fantastic if you're looking for a peaceful evening swim. Even in the Winter the outdoor pool is pleasantly warm enough to swim in. The indoor pool is large and clean. The jacuzzi is great, very powerful, and the steam room and sauna are fantastic. There is a wide range of cardiovascular equipment and I have never had to wait to get on anything even at peak times. The restaurant and bar are neat and modern and serve some healthy option meals. The staff on the front desk are pleasant though sometimes they seem a bit rushed off their feet and there is often a queue. A bit pricey but worth the extra money if you can afford it.

Despite it being a small space there is a full range of equipment from treadmills, cross trainers and bikes. There are only four rowing machines but they are in the Spin studio so they are always free. There is even the ubiquitous time wasters in the weights room but if you are patient the equipment eventually becomes free. The only problems are the poor air conditioning in summer which makes it feel that you are doing Bikram yoga and the general crowdedness of the place once the City finishes work at 6.

So supposedly if you're not a Black Member or don't have some kind of corporate membership, you would have to pay £1 for towel- as if the paying for this gym isn't expensive already in London. I had been ordered to loose weight from a Consultant so I can have Surgury. Eden Didn't support me at all. They allowed me to be continually bullied by grey haired old ladies who seem to think it's their club....and that THEY CAN SAY WHATEVER THEY LIKE TO VULNERABLE MEMBERS. They have only a couple of reserved spaces for gym users which are always full. Cost me quite a large joining fee & 12 month contract but found it was too far from home to be convenient enough to go regularly and the Furzefield was a better bet. When I came to cancel (after the 12 months) they highlighted the three months notice period so I had to fork out for that too. Not best amused! Apparently I could have started my notice at month 9. Would never go back because of this sharp practice.

The gym itself is fairly basic but there's a good free weights section, plenty (in number and variety) of cardio machines and the classes are really good. They have a load of very knowledgeable personal trainers who are always willing to help out if you've got a question. The only downside is because of where it's located it does tend to get very busy around lunchtime but if you can work around that Slim Jims should be the gym for you

I'm undecided about the refurbishment - while the showers and spa area are much better, it would have been so nice if they'd put a jacuzzi / whirlpool tub in. I can live without a swimming pool, but a jacuzzi is kind of a staple in most gyms these days, even city ones. (They had one here, years ago - though I don't think it was a Fitness First back then.) Aside from that, I really like the new spa area, especially the loungers. It could be kept a few degrees warmer - it's a bit nippy when you get out of the sauna / steam room - but it's very nice and peaceful, and the loungers are super-comfy. The new gym itself, I'm not sure about. It looks much more macho and serious now, with all that black and gray and rubber, and I find it much less relaxing than the airy white and purple spaces that we had before. I guess serious athletes will approve of this, but I liked the old, light, unintimidating atmosphere. A big yay on the rebounders, and the new hairdryers in the ladies' changing - they are a HUGE improvement on the old heavy ones. Overall, it's still a great place to come, for a small city gym. Staff are friendly, professional, and know their stuff. It's always clean, and I've never had any problems with theft or harassment from guys the way I have in London. At some point I probably will want to find somewhere with a pool (especially since the new pool at Westminster is so small and crowded), but for now it's a fine place to come, and monthly fees are reasonable.

All in all a no frills friendly gym.
