Gorgeous views of the winery you can enjoy from a variety of seating options. There were food options but we just enjoyed their delicious wine. The Strum was not my favorite from our trip but the Rose and Verliner were wonderful! This was a great place to enjoy the sunset and we didn't have to worry about our 2 year old running around or our 2 month old crying.

The ride took about 20 minutes and was much easier than trying to figure out public transportation. It was well worth the time and cost. Mayer am Nussberg is situated on a hill overlooking Vienna. It's a beautiful location and the perfect place to spend an evening. There are picnic tables and folding chairs facing the vineyard and the setting sun. It seems to be a favorite haunt for locals, as we saw many folks arriving on foot with kids and dogs in tow. The staff were very nice and helpful with our lack of German language skills. They helped us pick several different wines to taste and tried to explain each in pretty good English. We stayed until dark and took an Uber back to the city. It was a wonderful evening of awesome views, great wine and even some tasty food.

This heuriger was so accessible to the central parts of Vienna--it was only one transfer us via tram and a short 30 minute ride and a ten minute walk from the stop. I love the history attached with the winery--Beethoven supposedly was living here when he wrote his 9th symphony. The food was fantastic particularly the side dishes--roasted potatoes, sauerkraut like I haven't had before, pickled peppers with cream cheese, roasted vegetables. The bread as in Austria was wonderful as well. The meats were good as well and particularly liked the schnitzel. The wine was really good, we were a bit worried with it being young wine but enjoyed it especially with soda water. Our 17 year old enjoyed being legal in Austria and partook of it a bit too generously :). The interior was clean and comfortable with its traditional wooden tables and benches. Dessert was wonderful too with a chocolate molten cake and cream strudel..,. if we lived there could imagine coming here for regular family meals... wish they had such lovely welcoming spots where we live!

Remembering a schlocky tourist tango show in Buenos Aires years ago, we were a little nervous about this one. But, Viking surprised us with this and other evening musical dinner shows that were actually culturally interesting and a log of fun. I wish I could write about the great tenor during our Serbian show in Belgrade or the folk dancing and dinner in Sofia Bulgaria later in our trip, but Yelp doesn't support experiences in those countries. Ditto for our stops in Hungary, Croatia, and Romania. But while you're poking around my profile, please read up on our Istanbul adventures which Yelp does cover. When the accordion player came out and started playing "show tunes", we paused. Yet, this guy was fun and engaging and really grew on us. The copious quantities of wine passed around might have also helped, but probably not. Like any wine tasting, there are OK vintages and pretty good ones. Nothing we tried made us want to buy a bottle to take home, but nothing was going back into the bucket either. Various plates of bread, cheeses, means, fruits, and other stuff came out which went well with the wine and kept us singing along with the accordion guy. I think he was tipped well and he deserved it. We also heard from one of the business owners who gave us a little more background, including pointing out the vineyards in the back that we couldn't see at night. The room featured lots of wood (tables, walls, etc.), medium lighting, and what this tourist might consider an classic country Vienna atmosphere. Maybe we could have done this sort of thing on our own, but there are clear advantages to package tours or even an individual tour by a local. And if you are local, there are other dining room and bar areas away from the tourist likes of us. And more places like this up and down the street.

They poured several Viennese wines and provided bread, cheeses, meats, and fruit, along with some pretty fun accordion lead entertainment. The tables were set when we arrived and the food was waiting for us, charcuterie style. The business owners welcomed us into their little restaurant the has been around for hundreds of years. The tables were thick and sturdy with strong benches alongside. The room was not brightly lit, but that added to the old world atmosphere. Everyone was participating in the sing alongs which made for a really fun evening! This place is a great option if your looking to experience some Austrian style food, wine, and fun!
