We were looking for a winery to relax and taste some…read morewines and on a Thursday not a really good day for R&R but still so most places were closed because locals won't visit since they are at work. So when we found this place hidden away from the Main street in Vogtsburg we decided why not. The place is actually a restaurant and a winery, which seems to be the theme as there are several others I've noticed doing the same thing. As it was late lunch time and we were getting hungry we just decided to stop in for a meal and have the tasting at the same time. When we walked in there was some sort of party going on so we sat outside under the tent, which actually irrespective of the cold weather (June 2016 in Germany was very cold) was nice. The fare is typical German cuisine no frills but very tasting and done to perfection and with that we ordered 1 "flight" tasting per adult... That was somewhat of a mistake. We didn't count that the pours unlike the US will be a full glass, so a "flight" which contains 6 glasses of wine was a bit much. :) So we had to stay there for awhile since after finishing the "flight", even half of it we were in no condition to get behind the wheel, but partaking in the festivities was a lot of fun. I'd say if I do get a chance to visit I'd go there again. It's a fun place.

Internet research shows that it's very hard to come by, so I'm thankful I discovered it here. My friends are in for a treat. I found three locations that sell Monkey Gin. Here and another place sell it for €36, much better than a €40+ price I saw elsewhere. The proprietress was very helpful. She asked me if I'd like it wrapped and I'd said "yes, for protection". I explained I was flying tomorrow to the US, so she wrapped it in tissue and then a double layer of a light cardboard casing and folded the extra material over and tied it taut with ribbon. Sufficiently secured. It's a great little shop with great customer service. I would visit again.

Drexler's is a good store from which to buy wine -- but in my experience, only if you already know…read morethe wine. I've asked for recommendations several times -- twice on German wine, once for crémant (French bubbly not from Champagne), and once for cognac. The cognac was good, but none of the other recommendations suited my taste, and my taste is fairly broad. The prices usually aren't especially good either, but are generally not unreasonable. I know, from the above it sounds like I don't really like the place. But you can get some great wines here that might be hard to find elsewhere, like Camins del Priorat for EUR14 (or that's what it used to cost), an excellent priorat at an excellent price. The service is generally very friendly, and I like that they have so many wines on display in the window -- it's nice to be able to have a look from the outside without coming in uncomfortably without any real desire to buy something. So it's not my go-to place, but I'll have a look in the window to see if there's something I like which is always fun. And a place deserves to be recognized for being eye-candy, too. :-)

Our Belgium friends guided us to one of their favorite wineries in Colmar! Only 3 tastings per…read moreperson (FREE!), so we tried 6 different wines between the two of us! It was really tough to choose so few as they have so many different Alsatian wines! The 2 cremants were SPECTACULAR, especially for the price! Then, we moved onto 2 Rieslings and 2 Pinot Gris! I must say that we thoroughly enjoyed each one, and I can be quite snobby when it comes to wine. Our server was super friendly and helped guide us through our choices and answered any questions that we had. Her English was definitely better than our French, and much appreciated! We highly recommend this stop... and wolfberger doesn't just stop at wines... they make spirits, liqueurs, and even beer!!! Wow!!! Would buy a bit of each if we lived on this side of the Atlantic!!!

We've been at the Wolfberger Winery in Eguisheim not long ago and stocked up on come good Crémant…read more Wolfberger has an amazing value. A 12 Euro bottle tastes as good as a 50 Euro Champagne. We were on the way home to Switzerland, did some shopping in E.Leclerc and passed this Boutique by accident. Couldn't resist but to stop by and get some more of the good stuff. As the one in Eguisheim this also is a very nice, stylish Boutique and tasting room. Friendly and helpful staff. Our Bulldog was welcome inside as well. We didn't do a tasting though this time, we had to get going. But we bought a sixpack of Wolfberger Pink Crémant. And a sixpack of the Brut Révèrence IX. An amazing Crémant. A bit more expenisve than the regular. But only a few Euros more. And worth it. This is outstanding Crémant. It's not easily available in shops, so get some if you can get your hands on it. But of course in the Wolfberger Boutiques and Winery you'll find it. A quick stop only this time. But we got what we came for. We'll be back. Definitely.

The food itself was delightful -- the Munster tartes flambées stood out as the highlight, crisp and savory with just the right balance of flavors. Even the simple touches impressed: the lemonade was refreshing, and the espresso at the end was rich and satisfying. Overall, Maison Zimmer delivers great taste and value with a charming, no-fuss approach. A solid 4-star dining experience, and a place I'd happily return to.
