I was fortunate to have tasted their full range of wines with the winemaker and toured their historic cellar. The wines were stunning and the 2010 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Kabinett Trocken was my favorite that I tasted. The wine has a beautiful balance of elegance and richness. It has great minerality and is full-bodied with bright acidity. This wine is just a glimpse of the fabulous treats this winery has to offer. I've even found Koehler-Ruprecht on some local restaurant wine lists in San Diego and, needless to say, I don't hesitate to order it. Such a great experience, such great wines!

Not surprisingly at all, most were to our liking, and we drove away (the next day mind you) with many bottles of liquid happiness. I was especially happy to find a nice Morio Muskat, as that grape has been increasingly difficult to find, but also the Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese will be fun to open in a somewhat distant future. This is one of the wineries you should put on your itinerary when visiting Bretzenheim and its surroundings in Nahe.

We arrived on a random Saturday looking for a wine tasting and met his partner who called him up from an errand he had been on. He promptly returned, welcomed us into his home, and sampled wine with us for about an hour. It was great to sit around a large table and talk about everything from where we are from to culture shocks and politics. We sampled many wines and then decided to purchase a case or so. We were then offered a little tour of the wine making facilities. 100% recommend this place! The wine is fabulous and the atmosphere is quaint. His partner also does family photography so if you're in the market check it out!
