We opted for the four course menu for one, all of which was very good. Best in class! We also had the eggplant appetizer and white asparagus with the catch of the day, both also best in class! We both had the erdbeer white chocolate-strawberry dessert ... delicious. We had a local bottle of wine recommended by Claudia, our waitress! Great rec! She did a great job! Fantastic place, fantastic views... The MAJOR problem was we are from the US. The restaurant's credit card machine doesn't work on cards from the US. Apparently, cards from Switzerland don't work either! A call to the owner solved nothing. They offered to wait while I went to an ATM to get cash. Not a good solution when I'm in a foreign country with no familiar banks within 100 kms! Fortunately, I had enough Euros to cover the tab, with a few to spare. They obviously knew we were from the US when we walked in, but waited until the the bill was presented to tell us about the issue with the credit card reader. A perfect experience ruined in the last 15 minutes. What a shame. REALLY bad form! We won't go back, and recommend all from the US avoid the restaurant (unless you bring cash to cover the bill). We planned on coming back to stay at the hotel, those plans canceled too!

The setting is wonderful, overlooking green fields and Lake Constance. We had heavy rain during dinner, so the doors to the outside patio had to be closed. Breakfasts were beautiful mornings dining lion the patio! Service was great! Impressive wine list. Nice variety of cocktails too, the Limoncello Spritz and Negroni were quite tasty! All dishes ordered were delicious, expert preparation and presentation. Salad and soup were a great start to the meal, both super fresh and tasted great! Dinner included lamb rump and the onion beef steak, both were outstanding! Dessert included multiple scoops of ice cream, all different flavors, perfect, light ending to dinner! A bottle of white wine paired well with everything. Breakfasts included many fresh hot items, eggs, sausages, bacon, cereals, meat, cheeses, veggies, and awesome coffees. The pastry selection was as delicious as it was impressive! No way to leave hungry! A great way to start any day! 5-stars for this hotel restaurant! Exceptional all the way around. Quite a find in the countryside of Germany. We'd definitely go back, and highly recommend Restaurant Sonnenhof!
