The Activity director, Roseanna, is top notch! The residents adore her( I do too). She is heart…read morecentered and goes above and beyond to keep the residents engaged, entertained and smiling. The CONS: Watch for the level of care package pricing. Do not assume which category your loved one will fall into. Your loved one NEEDS the comprehensive assessment done by the Wellness director BEFORE making your decision. Your monthly cost can quickly jump based on the scoring system the Sonida Corporation uses. You may wish to request that scoring information before having the assessment done. Next, make sure to check in with your loved ones frequently. Ask about the quality and quantity of the food. We have had lots of kitchen changes over the past 2 years- stay on top of that. So far, it looks like things are looking better since Ebony came on board. It is also worth noting, not all staff respond to concerns in an expedited and or caring fashion. This is something that you and your loved one will need to figure out together. There has been a tremendous turnover of staff in the past 2 years alone. I would like to give gold stars to Judy, Ben,Bonnie, Maria , Francis and Stella. I apologize if I missed some of our newer techs. Communication is absolutely key! Transparency is a must! This goes both ways. If staff have questions about the resident- ask. Make a point to get to know every single resident by name. Know what their expectations are as well as the family members. You can't know your residents by staying behind closed doors. One other important point-do not take a room upstairs if you can't get down those stairs in about 10 minutes without assistance. It is unfortunate, but there are current residents up there that should NOT be. The elevator has broken down at least 3 times since we have been here! It was an absolute nightmare.Residents were stuck up there .They should have never been living up there to begin with ! It is incredible that those rooms have been rented out to residents that are dependent on wheelchairs and walkers. Finally, I want to remind you that this is a business. Sonida Corporation makes so much $. Do your research- you will be blown away. The rent will continue to go up- to be expected across most facilities of this type. There really is no place like home and places like these just aren't that. Take your time choosing, do your research!!!!! You may find that none of the choices out there meet the standard or maybe some at least continue to do better every day. I wish you and your loved ones the best and hope you can find what you are looking for.

We were mislead on so many areas by this facility. My mother is paying $2600 to stay there. Part of…read morethe appeal was that three meals a day were included. The food is horrendous and not edible. The wifi and cable don't work. The one washer and dryer they have for 76 residents is now out of service. I cannot believe how grossly misleading the sales director was when we toured. Almost ever he promised us was a lie.

Therefore, my sisters and I have been searching for a suitable retirement community where she will be supported and, more importantly, happy and safe. We found Garden Estates online and made an appointment with Gae Strenge to visit the complex and, wow! What a fabulous facility! It is beautiful, bright, and clean! Residents are active, smiling and seemingly very happy! In fact, residents approached me to say how happy they are, how great the food is, and they raved about the wonderful facilities. And Gae? She is outstanding! She is very knowledgeable, patient, supportive, very warm and absolutely wonderful. We visited a number of facilities and, while we have not yet made a decision about where Mom eventually will live, Garden Estates is at the very top of the list. The only drawback to our situation is that Garden Estates is farther away than we would like for Mom to be.

Dust in the Wind…read more This is a hard one to rate. The intake process was fine and Rebecca White was very helpful. The care my mother received was fine. As much as she complained to me, the staff said she participated in activities and her health was improving. Brookdale Corpus Christi's monthly fee is expensive considering you do need to supply items such as towels, shower curtain, shampoo, soap, toilet paper (not kidding). The final frustrating part is the business office staff ( except for the receptionist ). They truly are strictly corporate widgets. My mother was a resident for a short time. Now we are trying to wrap up a few final details, but cannot get the time of day from them. We also contacted Brookdale HQ and were referred back to Brookdale Corpus Christi. Update: They finally contacted us. Wait...what? How's that again? They have an interesting way of doing math.

Still to this day 13 days later we have yet to speak to the Doctor or receive a visit. My mother in law was not given her pain meds last night so she was in incredible pain every 30 minutes all night. The bathroom floor is disgusting. The nurse is incompetent. She doesn't know any orders or any schedules. She said she was just filling in. My wife, myself and other members of our family have had to be by her side 24/7 because she is a major fall risk. I don't feel like she is safe here. It takes over 45 minutes for the nurse to give her meds. Thank God we have been by her side otherwise she would have fallen many times. I feel sorry for any other patients who don't have family by their side. I am surprised this place has not been sued into oblivion!

The staff welcomed us and took a great deal of time to sit with us go over all the services they offer. We Met with Kat, the Admissions Director who was very knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. Then Mary, the Executive Director stepped in to visit with us and finally Stephanie, LVN. Stephanie had the sweetest personality and we just know that dad is going to respond well to her. The facility is nice and will meet dad's needs. we also really appreciate that their rate is all inclusive will not increase as dad's condition declines. Other places we visited are corporately owned and double the cost. Whereas Villa South is family owned. Dad doesn't need granite countertops and fancy dining rooms. He needs a place that feels like home and at Villa South, my brother and I believe they can offer that. They have a theatre, lovely garden, and activities to keep dad busy. Obviously dad has not moved in yet, so this review is solely based off of our experience thus far. We are very hopeful for a happy future for dad at Villa South and look forward to working with the pleasant staff at Villa South that we have connected with.

They truly love them and have their best interest at heart. With very difficult disease states to manage most places would have discharged them. Yet the Villa South has worked diligently to address their needs, have been extremely patient at keeping my family happy. The staff communicate well and have always been willing to work with me . I could not be more pleased with the Villa South thanks to it's AWESOME, caring employees.
