I not only write reviews, but give you directions too, so you don't get as lost as we do. WOSC offer sailings around Wellington Harbour, as well as various sailing courses for those nautically inclined. We wanted to have a sailing lesson of some sort, and so the SR found the Sunday evening sail, which is what we opted for. We ended up on a keel boat, with four other novices, and the instructor, who tried to ensure we all had something to do at all times of the sail. The sail itself is a couple of hours, with time inclusive to go through some basic instructions, safety advice and fitting of lifejackets and waterproofs. We sailed on quite a blusterly day with a westerly wind, which the instructor noted was rare for Wellington (nice, not that I get worried but DID THE INSTRUCTOR KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS RARE WIND - of course he did, I'm just paranoid and out of my comfort zone on a boat) which helped prove how uncapsizeable these boats are, even in the hands of terrified novices. I even, by the end of the sail, had the courage to leave my corner of the boat and crawl out onto the bow to help dock the boat at the end of the day. I have nothing negative to say about our experience - it was great, our instructor great, and full of tips and guidance as we sailed around, and he didn't take us into a situation where control was lost - you could see he was changing his plans based on how us baby sailors were coping with the changeable circumstances on the water. If we had time, we would have gone back for more instruction if we could, but that will have to wait for the next time we are in New Zealand. Definitely worth a visit, and sailings take place all year around in most weather conditions.

This is a superb golf course close to Wellington City that has magnificent greens, pristine…read morefairways, and an abundance of birds and flora amongst small lakes and the river along the boundary. The conditions here are great in summer with irrigation and in winter with the free draining qualities. A course that has tree lined fairways and natural water hazards is challenging but good for the low and high handicapper. It is a great Club to join, with not only the friendly membership and informative Pro Shop staff but also caters for the casual social golfer with realistic green fees. The membership also is very affordable with many options and an easy process to join. After having some social rounds I have now joined up and really enjoy the Tuesday and Thursday clubs and the Sunday afternoon play. This golf club will make you welcome and will do so with an amazing friendly attitude I can assure you that there is no need to worry about being in a four, the club will put you into one and you will be made so at ease what ever your stage of golf you are at. There is good practise facilities and a coach available at the club. Enjoy Shandon like I have. It is the home course of New Zealand professional Mark Brown.

A Night to Remember at Zealandia…read more We had an absolutely fantastic Zealandia by Night experience on Monday and couldn't recommend it highly enough to fellow nature lovers. Our guide, Ash, was incredible. Her storytelling ability is second to none, bringing the history and wildlife of Zealandia to life, while her knowledge of the sanctuary's fauna was genuinely mind-blowing. We were incredibly fortunate with our sightings, including a male little spotted kiwi busily foraging for bugs, a baby tuatara, and a fully grown female giant wētā, along with plenty of other fascinating nocturnal creatures. The evening began with a highly engaging and informative presentation in the Visitor Centre, including a captivating film exploring the natural history of Aotearoa New Zealand. The tour itself was beautifully paced and packed with fascinating insights, and it concluded perfectly with a freshly brewed pot of kawakawa tea. A wonderful experience from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone who loves New Zealand's wildlife and wants to experience the ngahere after dark!

Getting off the Cable Car, there was a sign and driver for Zealandia, so I asked what it was. It ended up being a highlight of my entire trip: if you're a fan of birds, gorgeous landscapes, and flowers, this is a must-visit spot for the whole family. The free shuttle takes about 10 minutes winding up hill (I don't recommend trying to walk), and takes you right to the entrance. You can also catch the shuttle back here about every 20-30 min. The welcome center has restrooms and a gift shop, plus the ticket booth. Prices are reasonable for what you're going to see, and they let you in two days if you want to come back. They also offer guided tours with experts who will show you the birds and tell you about them. The sanctuary goes up the valley and has winding paths, both easy and clean, and more difficult and progressively muddier. So basically, anyone can come here and enjoy it. There are open field areas, lakes and streams, mountain sides, etc. I did all the main paths, but there were even longer ones that go farther away if you have the time. There are fences and gates everywhere to protect against invasive species like possums, so you can learn about what these amazing birds are facing. Throughout there are bird feeders, so you'll get to see rare birds here no matter what. There are educational signs everywhere too, so you can learn what you're looking about and where they're from. It's worth going to the dam and bridge at the end of the valley, you can see panoramic views of Zealandia and Wellington beyond. I took so many photos here, they barely do it justice. This is a must-visit natural attraction in Wellington.

As for its products - well, take your chances! It's a parallel import heaven! They buy their stuff in bulk at discounted prices - and you never really know what you're going to find. One day you might come across an exercycle, the next some fishing tackle or cleaning detergent. It's truly random - and a lot of it isn't the best quality known to humanity - but at least you can get a refund if it breaks in the alloted timeframe! They also produce their own brand of clothing and sell loads of mainstream CDs and DVDs, games and toys at cheap prices. This particular version of the red shed isn't nearly as good as the ones in Paraparaumu, Porirua City or central Wellington. It's much smaller with a more limited range. But if you're popping into next door Woolies, you might want to nip in here and have a peek. The Warehouse's motto is where everyone gets a bargain - and even if you don't come out the door with what you bargained for, you can guarantee that you'll find something - even if it's random junk you never needed in the first place! Occasionally you really will pick up a useful bargain though.

I will say the studio itself was disappointing, especially that it's a new business, as it looks slapped together in a day (maybe it's not finished?) and as cheaply as possible in a smelly old building. So if you're looking for a posh and clean gym this isn't it. But if you can get past that, the teachers are great and enthusiastic, will help students personally to learn form and challenging in a fun way. Even after a few months workouts are still a challenge but you can see yourself really improving and getting stronger over time, it's very rewarding.
