Have just purchased my second Pride power chair from Madhu at the Etobicoke store and she was as informative, friendly and knowledgeable about the product as she had been years before. She recognized me as a previous customer even though it was 3 years since my previous purchase. At no time was there any hard sell, rather she was concerned for my needs and took pains to see I was satisfied even though the store was obviously busy with customers. read more

Purchased a product that was found to not help my isse per poor adive of Whitby staff. Attempted to return as per receipt by store management. Tried to explain that product was ineffective and flawed due to irritating smell. Management again refused to refund my purchase. I asked if they could dispose of the substandard product with a further refusal. It was left on their counter with the receipt that the product could be returned. Must be how they profit??? My recommendation is that customers go elsewhere for proper customer service. Furthermore, management of Whitby store be replaced. read more

This was planned trip as we were looking for specialized equipment that are not sold at normal store. The person we were buying the walker unfortunately couldn't come and this being specialized equipment we wanted to know if what would be the terms in case we wanted to return the walker. While I understand there are certain items they can't accept back this item being essential for someone who has severe mobility needs has to be right. We had all the measurements down pat but still wanted to make sure that they felt right with this equipment. The initial response was a flat no. After a bit of debate we got it down to they will accept it provided we return it the same day now this is around 2 PM (they close early) so good luck going trekking downtown and testing the walker with a short time window even with a car (darn these parades, festivals that clog all the streets every weekend). We decided to roll the dice and as predicted couldn't go and come back in time for refund. The person who was using the walker had to call in and talk to the Manager so ensure that we could return the walker as it didn't fit her properly. I have been in this store before but not made any major purchases. Now I am in the position of being a senior with some medical conditions and disabilities, the usual set of miseries like diabetes & arthritis, trouble bending over, standing, & walking long distances, plus stuff nobody likes to mention, in my case, severe OAB. (It was this last that forced me to retire early & made me a client of Sunnybrook's best urologist. I see him quarterly for Botox but not for wrinkles, to keep my OAB under some control. I will happily give my urologist's name to any Yelper in need who messages me. It's the least I can do!) Anyway, I now find myself needing all kinds of home health care bed & bathroom safety devices plus things for back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, acid reflux, leg and foot pain plus diabetic neuropathy. Oh joy! My comprehensive employer paid health coverage covers none of these things & they can easily run you into the hundreds and 1000's of dollars! So I gotta bite the bullet & buy all this stuff & it helps that the SDM staff are all very patient, friendly & customers don't sweat it if you interrupt the staff with questions about where everything is located. BTW I took photos of everything I will probably buy later on Thursday when it's Seniors Day & everything's 20% off (hint hint). I had previously read on the Net that Dr. Ho's TENS & EMS devices for pain therapy and improving circulation had a good track record and his foot and leg pain therapy products were good not just for the pain but also calf cramps, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, reducing numbness and swelling (therefore helping both diabetic neuropathy & leg edema!) I had also read that as a Father's Day feature, Dr. Ho's latest Foot and Leg Pain Therapy device was reduced $10 to $119 until June 18th. If you want to grab this bargain, hurry cause I took the second last one, Yelpers! If you want to know how well the product works, please message me :-) Two more things you should know that distinguishes SDM Home Health Care from.the other medical supply stores: (1) You can get Optimum Points on everything you buy here which helps the expenses somewhat. (2) If you're over 65 (I'm not but hubby is) you get 20% off on Seniors' Day which is this Thursday when they're open late 8:30 am - 8:00 pm. Other weekdays they close at 6:00 pm and weekends they close at 5:00 pm. So Yelpers, in 2 days, check this store out! SDM's prices compare favourably with some of the other medical supply stores in the GTA. They have one of the better organized informative websites of home health care retailers too. Apparently these retailers assume their clientele are not only physically disabled but mentally as well, or at least they assume they are not capable of searching and scrolling through a web site to choose products for purchase online. This, Yelpers, is NOT one of my problems--I can power through everything from Amazon to Best Buy to Lands' End USA to every online custom T-shirt site ever & when it asks if I wanna scroll through 75 items on 18 pages, I'm game LOL. I am a Power User of online purchasing at this point ;-) So I'd appreciate it if the 12 GTA ADP authorized vendors of mobility aids according to my VHA Occupational Therapist, would acknowledge it's the 21st Century and (1) get a web site for heaven's sake! (2) allow users the choice of examining and comparing for themselves their entire product line, instead of dumbing it down and offering to help and guide the potential purchaser by phone or in person only. I would rather NOT spend the gas and travel time going from Etobicoke to Vaughan to Thornhill to Scarborough to Markham just to find out if they actually have the product in stock, let alone at a competitive price. BTW Shoppers Home Health Care is NOT on VHA's ADP authorized vendors' List though IMO it should be. There are two online only vendors I can recommend checking out as well: Age Comfort (which offers CARP 10% discount) and believe it or not amazon.ca. I have seen such enormous variations in mobility aid prices from $20 to $60 to $80 to $100+ for exactly the same thing that I warn all Yelpers to comparison shop ferociously before buying & look for every member card & Seniors discount out there. You're going to be spending $100s of dollars on these items, for which your health insurance may or may not reimburse you. But keep every single bill, because you can probably claim most of them on next year's tax return! Just a gentle reminder! read more

Amanda and her staff are 100% ON THE BALL at the Etobicoke store! I contacted her in desperation after getting NO WHERE with the Markham SHHC (Woodbine & 16th). Amanda succeeded in delivering a new charger for my dad's scooter LICKETY-SPLIT! Whereas 10 days of miscommunication and time wastage with Markham got me nothing but jumpin' mad, hair pull-out frustration! All the Markham staff put together could not even make up ONE brain! Amanda & her staff on the other hand provided me with excellent, efficient, SPEEDY, courteous, professional, competent, respectful customer care!
