If you don't like pancakes, this probably isn't the place for you. Everything on the menu is made with maple. If you have the time, there is a nice mountain trail just out the front door that apparently a lot of folks hike before eating. We couldn't fit it in but I bet it would have made the experience even better. My pancakes with maple roasted pecans were good, not mind blowing, but good. My coffee with maple whipped cream was good but I typically take it black and wasn't a fan of all the sweetness. They do feature some non-pancake items like maple baked Mac n' cheese that was apparently recently on the Food Network. Also, some kind of French toast. But we all went for the pancakes. Service on our visit was not super fast but everyone was very nice and the place was very busy. They have a store with syrup, their own maple porter, and other wares. Overall we enjoyed our visit to this picturesque spot.

The Cobequid Trail is approximately 11 km long, and finds its starting point near downtown Truro. Check out the website for a PDF map of the trail. Much of it is reclaimed from a defunct rail line and is covered with a medium density crushed grave. It's perfect for walking or biking (I love to bike it) because of the gentle elevation. No ridiculous hills to tax your constitution. Several lengths of the trail are wide open so if it's a windy day you're definitely going to feel it. There are benches or rest areas at regular intervals along the way and your scenic view will include both water frontage and agricultural visas. I've seen foxes and eagles in the area, but nothing too scary since it's almost in town. A very popular spot. The only downside -- and not enough that it'll lose a star -- is that it finds itself directly beside the rendering plant (http://www.rothsay.ca/about/rothsay/), which smells d-i-s-g-u-s-t-i-n-g, especially in the heat of summer. Another reason to bike the trail since you can whiz by it fairly fast. And another reason to be a vegetarian, Ugh. Thumbs down @ rendering. Definitely a must-add for the list of Truro activities, and it won't even cost you a cent!

I'd heard about Victoria Park and its waterfall a year or two ago, but never actually found it…read more This past weekend was beautiful and we decided to take a drive and explore the old Highway #2. We ended up in Truro - and followed the little signs to the Park. Bottom line - well worth the 1-1 1/2 hour drive from Halifax. There's a great playground area for kids, an outdoor pool open from June for the summer, picnic spots galore, loads of parking and fantastic hiking. There's Jacob's Ladder - 175 very steep steps, or take a more leisurely stroll along a winding, stream with rapids that end at a terrific waterfall. I admit it. I'm a sucker for waterfalls, even if it's just a trickle of water escaping from a mountain side. Even though this one is nothing like Niagara Falls, it's a wonderful place to hang out. Next time I'll pack a picnic lunch.

Don't worry about trying to wear water-wear or protective gear because Adventure Tours will provide you with full rain-gear, rubber boots, life-jacket and a helmet upon your arrival. All you need to worry about is holding and trying not to swallow too much water :) You'll want to call in advance to find out when is a good time to go. Apparently they can determine the size of the waves based on the fullness of the moon - the fuller the moon, the crazier the rafting experience. Chances are that your boat will not flip over, however, there's a fair chance that somebody may fall out, this happens frequently and is not a big deal. In addition to the rafting you'll also have a chance to go mud-sliding, where you'll get ridiculously dirty and have a great time. After the rafting and mudslinging is over and you've worked up an appetite, Adventure Tours provides you with a BBQ and beverages, and you have a chance to sit down, relax and dry, or if you prefer, go for a dip in their swimming pool. You're guaranteed to have a great time!

Fun. Wet. Wild. I had my doubts about tidal bore rafting…read more I'd turned down invites before. That was a mistake. I had a blast. Two hours simultaneously passed so quickly and felt like it lasted forever (in the best possible sense). We had a good, energetic group and a guide (Emmett) to match. He could read the group and gave us a great ride. I'm already talking to a few other friends about organizing a trip.

We flew into Halifax and hopped into our rental car and rushed to the Tidal Bore to see high tide…read more For those of you who missed this important fact, the Bay of Fundy had the highest tides in the world: 40+ feet (12+ m) between high and low tide. It is pretty darn impressive. After we had our fill of watching water reach the peak and then reverse course, we went into the Discovery Center, where a lovely woman -- wish I could remember her name -- explained what we had seen, patiently and repeatedly explained to a tourist that 12 meters of water doesn't arrive in a huge tidal wave, and answered various questions. After everyone else left, we asked her more questions about NS She was great: recommendations for restaurants, which back roads to take, and more. Hats off to this super friendly and helpful Bluenoser. She did everything but invite us over for dinner.
