My experience with Dr. Werboff wasn't great, it wasn't good, and it was almost okay but even fell short of that. It seems like Dr. Werboff is missing compassion and his style of medical practice is a contributing factor to why the US Healthcare system sucks. Dr. Werboff was referred by my PCP, so I went over for an appointment. Dr. Werboff wasn't the friendliest from the start. He gave off a weird vibe, the kind of vibe a grandparent gives when they see their grandkid pulling up in the driveway that they don't really like. Dr. Werboff is like Mr. Wilson in Dennis the Menace. Every time Mr. Wilson sees Dennis his day is ruined. You can tell that he doesn't want to be there. Maybe he should retire. Dr. Werboff explained my problem to me but not in detail and what got me the most was that he was quick to mention surgery. Before my appointment I had done my own research and there are other options that could be used before surgery, but Dr. Werboff keeps bringing up surgery. I know why, it's because he'll get paid more! What a surprise... Like I said before, maybe he should retire. Maybe his plan is to retire and he's trying to squeeze in as many surgeries as possible so he can cash out before the curtains drop. Before the conclusion of each appointment I tried to ask questions but he would just walk out of the room, and I'd sit there wondering what to do. Do I wait, do I leave, do I sit there looking at the male reproductive system poster on the wall until someone gets me? Dr. Werboff doesn't say "okay goodbye" or anything. He just walks out of the room like he's going to come back but he doesn't. Strange... Oh and I can't forget the bill that I have to pay each visit. Since his appointments with you are so damn short he should just call the patients back that he refers out for xrays to inform them on the results that way we don't have to go back to the office, pay a co-pay and office visit bill just to be told to come back for a follow up in a few weeks. Anyway, I'm now seeking another urologist because Dr. Werboff is urwronglogist. Good luck to anyone that visits. Be prepared for your typical USA health care where you're rushed, left with unanswered questions, and rushed to do medical procedures. The only thing Dr. Werboff is missing is being prescription happy and he'd be the poster boy for what's wrong with American medicine. read more

If it weren't for Dr. Werboff, I would've lost a kidney at the age of 18. Good thing I went to him for a second opinion, because the first doctor I went to immediately told me to remove my kidney. What an amazing doctor! Great Charisma and wonderful humor. In my 38 yrs., I've never had surgery and didn't know what to expect. I was scared. When I was visiting Dr. Werboff for the first time, he diagnosed me quickly, was very upfront with his recommendations and most importantly, I automatically felt like I could trust him, which for me is rare. The morning before my surgery, I was in Sutter and all the nurses & anesthesiologist, visited me which overwhelmed me. Dr. Werboff walked in, assured me everything was fine and that he would make sure I would be ok. An hour later, it was over and He visited with me again. My follow-up visits have been awesome. He makes me so comfortable that patting him on the back like an old buddy is natural. read more

I got referred to him because my internist wanted to get something looked at. "Go get it checked out with Dr. Werboff. He's top-notch." So I go. Waiting room was pretty run-down, and full of old guys having problems peeing. Receptionist is being downright rude to many of them. (In her defense, some of them were being pretty surly). When I entered the exam room, they asked me to strip down and pee in a cup. I'm about 30 minutes into this appointment and finally the doc walks in. "I've had a look at your scan. You need a such-and-such procedure, and I don't do those." "Uh, OK. Can you recommend someone around here?" "Well, hmm, uhhh, I think you should call so-and-so in Los Angeles and see who he recommends" Really? So I'm getting literally no help from you? Appointment over in 90 seconds. They charged me $440. For 90 seconds and no medical care. Credit card on the spot. Surly receptionist wasn't having it any other way. Now just maybe they could have saved me the trip to the office, the wait in the waiting room, the peeing in the cup, and the getting half-naked. Just a call to say "I can't help you so skip this appointment" This guy might be a terrific doc, but this was rather uncool, wouldn't you say? read more

I went in for an appointment because he was one of the four urologists that my doctor had recommended. It was a terrible experience. First, the staff made me pee in a cup which was slightly odd because I was only going for a surgery consultation. After Dr. Werboff finally came to see me, I asked a few questions and explained what other doctors have told me; he became visibly impatient and said "Well, maybe you COULD see the other doctors," which I thought was such an rude way to respond to patients who genuinely want to know what the best options are before going into a surgery. After he answered a few of my questions very curtly, he left the room abruptly and said rudely, "good luck with other doctors." He then closed the door behind me and I waited for a nurse or something to wrap up the session or to ask if I need to schedule any follow-up appointment. I waited in the room for 30 minutes. (I was so stunned I didn't know what to do.) Finally, I came out and asked the doctor if anyone was coming. He said, "nope, you're done." I've never been so confused at doctor's office before. I think he might've been in a bad mood that day, but I feel like that kind of disrespect should never spill over to an unsuspecting patient's first visit. I called this office after receiving a urologist referral and was able to get in not just on the same day, but within the hour. May be a fluke, but that was great. Stacey (NP) was very straight forward and helpful. I had previously called other urologists, but they stated I needed a referral. Stacey said that wasn't true there, so if you're seeking a urologist without a referral, I would call them. This is the start of my experience, will keep you posted! read more

Oh yeah, I was nervous about seeing a Urologist and all that might go along with the 'exam'. All of my apprehension disappeared within half-a-minute of meeting Dr. Werboff. What a great guy with an absolutely terrific 'bedside manner' and a good sense of humor, too! He was well versed with my past medical (issues) having reviewed that information on the computer before coming into the exam room. I really appreciated that because I tend to put that stuff out of mind and wouldn't have brought it up during our initial chat. His assistant Pamela is a true gem as well. By the way, the building is newer and modernish, so I cant imagine what M Y. is 'yelping' about? I now have my own Urologist so if I have any (future) plumbing problems, I am heading straight over to Dr. Werboff's office! read more

It seems some people use these review forums to showcase their comic/sitcom writing skills. I just want to write an objective take on my experience as a patient of Dr. Werboff's who needed a cystoscopy for a work-up for blood in my urine. First I appreciated the reminder calls from San Francisco Urology. The waiting room was neat and well lit, and the receptionist was friendly and professional. Both of my visits were only 15 minutes or less in the waiting room. Dr. Werboff's assistant seemed to be confident in her abilities and very efficient. A cyystoscopy entailed placing a tube with a light and miniature camera up through my urethra into my urinary bladder in order to check for tumors or any other source of bleeding. Any anxiety I might of had was allayed by Dr. Werboff's medical expertise and reassuring manner. He worked quickly and efficiently clearly explaing wat he was doing every step of the procedure which lasted approximately20 minutes. I felt very little discomfort, the hardest part for me was trying to give a urine sample before the procedure. My overall experience with Dr. Werboff's practice was a good one. I am grateful for my top notch personal care physiciance, Dr. Ross, for sending me to see Dr. Lawrence Werboff, urologist. Without reservation, I would gladly return to San Francisco Urology and Dr. Werboff should I need the services of a urologist. read more

I went to this doctor based on Yelp Reviews. Oh how I regret that decision. I have a form of prostate pain, and the Dr. examined me. He checked my urinanalysis and told me on the spot that he did not find anything. Yet he gives me 500mg of antibiotics EVEN AFTER he said there was no infection. However, he told me he was going to send out my sample for a culture. I call a week after and the nurse there says he never sent anything out. He put me to see another doctor instead, his partner, Rosenberg. When I told him some of my symptoms, he believed I was being neurotic. He literally said this. My appointment was at 9am, and I did not get seen until 945. Maybe some of the yelpers here are good friends with him, while others who don't know him off the bat are treated differently. After a prostate operation performed by Dr. Werboff I had a urinary tract infection. It was treated for 2 month with the wrong antibiotic without taking a culture. My primary care physician finally took a culture, treated me and send me back to Dr. Werboff who then again took a culture. I called yesterday as instructed to see if my pain comes still from the infection and to obtain the culture results. I was told I will be called back but no one ever did. Still waiting to get my infection properly trated. Will go back to my primary care. read more

I went to see Dr Werboff on the suggestion of my GP ~ Dr. Dave Segars (who has been 'spot on' with his diagnosis & health care for the past 25 years. I called Dr. Werboff's office for an appointment and Dr Werboff could see me at a time that was perfect for me in a little less than a week. His office staff called me to confirm and inform me they were sending a few easy to fill history informational & description forms of my problem as well as contact information in the mail. When I arrived I entered his waiting room and his friendly staff at the window immediately took down my information. Within five minutes after having a seat I was asked kindly to step into a nice examining room, stopping off at their own clean internal bathroom to leave a urine sample & then to a private examining room to see the doctor. Meanwhile I was intervied by a pleasant attentive female assistant. She took my BP. Within minutes Dr Werboff arrived with practically all the details and even some previous medical history on the computer from a couple of previous San Francisco urologusts years back which in my opinion can only help. Dr Werboff didn't waste any time. He gave me an ultrasound of my bladder, gently and painlessly digitally examined my prostate and palpaited my abdomen. My urological symptoms along with the doctor's examination resulted in a definitive diagnosis. What a releif to learn I had no disease (going on 67). Everything was normal for my age and all clear. It turned out to be side effects from some meds that I had been taking for quite some time. The Dr. offered in the future should there be any other remaining problems. I definately recommend Dr. Werboff. He is kind and gentle professional and brilliant. I have been to several urologists over the past decades. Dr. Werboff's knowledge and commitment to his patients is evident and reassuring from start to finish. The entire urology department is very clean and comfortable. I will check in with the Dr. Werboff the next time I need to see a true specialist in his field that has the confidence professionalism and many years of experience. It was one the most pleasant experiences I've had goiing to see a specialist. read more

I can't give enough praise to Dr. Werboff and his entire staff. I was recently referred to him by my primary care physician, Dr. Steven Knox, because of my elevated PSA count. Dr. Werboff was warm, caring, respectful and suggested that I have a prostate biopsy. He prescribed a pain pill and relaxant prior to the procedure, and the 10 minute procedure, that I had feared, was painless. A week later he called me directly to inform me that I did have an early stage prostate cancer, but was very reassuring in that it was slow growing and treatable. He schedule a 45 minute follow-up consultation with me to discuss next steps. He answered all of my questions, recommended a doctor to perform the radiation treatment, had his staff set up an appointment on the spot, and assured me that he'd be following up with me every three months and then every six months and once a year to insure that I was monitored. Not only was he patient, easy to talk to, reassuring, and kind, his entire staff was warm, helpful, treated me both with respect (I have a Ph.D. and they called me "Doctor"), and not like just another patient. The nurses and receptionists all showed personal interest and good humor. I wish every doctor and doctor's office were like this one. read more
