I'm so glad I was able to attend Wesleyan's nursing school. I had a 2 year old son while going to school so I had minimal time to study. Thankfully the courses were so well organized that all I had to do was wake up for a few hours each morning to get my course work done. The assignments were efficient and purposeful so that all I needed to do was listen to lecture and complete my homework in order to succeed. Thanks to Wesleyan College, I passed my board exam on the first try and only used our last semester seminar as guidance. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. From drug issues on campus to Admin and staff, this college is awful. This is just one of my personal experiences with the Admin staff. This past spring semester, my mother and I went and spoke with Erika White, the director of Residence Life, at Wesleyan College regarding some issues that had been happening on campus. During this meeting, I noticed that a report on another student that she was flipping through had pictures of some of my belongings that had been missing from my room. This student had gained access to my room from my Suite Mate's room and taken some items of mine. One of them being my father's pocketknife. When I mentioned that that specific knife had vanished from my room a few weeks prior, Erika White said that there were pictures taken of this individual's room, and that I would be more than welcome to look through the photos to see if anything else in the room was mine once the formal investigation closed. I left the office and never heard anything about the situation again. I then went to Residence Life and spoke to Erika White on 8/1/2022 to turn in my key and ask about retrieving, in the very least, my father's knife. Erika White then informed me that everything in that individual's room has been bagged up and thrown away, including my father's knife. Her exact words were "I'm sorry. It was an out-of-sight, out-of-mind kind of situation." Because there were things missing from my room at the time that have not turned up and I was never permitted to look at the photos, I am not sure what items of mine were disposed of, not including my father's knife. This is unacceptable. Considering that I and my mother sat down and had this conversation with Erika White, this situation should never had happened. read more

I attended and graduated from Wesleyan College, and since being out of the "Wesleyan Bubble" and in the "Real World," I've learned to truly appreciate my 4 years there. Wesleyan gave me an excellent education that prepared me for jobs in different fields as well as later masters and PhD studies. The college also provided me with a safe but challenging place to learn about leadership, community, and myself. I wasn't happy every day there. I disagreed with and fought back against certain campus policies and practices. But I now realize that was what made my experience there so valuable. I would (and do) highly recommend Wesleyan to any woman looking for a small college experience that will not always be easy - academically or socially - but will be deeply meaningful. read more

I am a proud Wesleyan College graduate. In addition to the outstanding academic education I received there, I learned the value of service to my community and balance in my life. Wesleyan prepares women for leadership regardless of their field of endeavor. I started as a shy teenager and graduated as a confident teacher, later receiving masters and doctoral degrees and becoming a school principal and university professor. I know that my Wesleyan education and experience made those achievements possible for me. Furthermore, I am blessed with life-long friendships with my Wesleyan "sisters." Iceberg written so many reviews that keep getting deleted that I don't even have a count. All you need to know I feel that some of the professors are great, some of the education is good, but it's not worth it. They extort your fees and can get away with a lot because they are private. Notice they have no atudents in wheelchairs. In the words of the history dept head, irs because they think they own everything and ruin beautiful buildings with ramps. That chapel was supposedly build with donations, but our fees rosebud higher and higher each semester and they couldn't explain why. You had to pay them. You can tell transfer out, so once you're there, you're stuck. This may het deleted again, but I won't let another student suffer the way so many others have. read more

While the education at Wesleyan is top notch everything else is not. I have literally been served rotten food. There are some staff members that refuse to do their job and are terrible to work with. Overall, the excellent education is the only reason to go here. read more

The education is pretty good but the 'fall in line or your grade suffers' unspoken rule is what gets you. There weren't 'mean girls' in my high school, so it is ironic that they should rule the roost at a college, with even the professors carrying out their wishes against other students. It all sounds exaggerated or made up, but talk to alums. Either you agree with the trending philosophies or your participation grade suffers and your scholarships mysteriously come up short. I consider myself a far left liberal but I was not leftist enough for them. In a place where it's sufficiently right-winged, I found myself being considered 'far left,' but I did not agree that you have to fully agree on every issue to be welcomed both emotionally and financially. If you ask alums, make sure you ask more than a few. There are so many horror stories from alums that I wished I had known better. Once you're a student, it's almost impossible to transfer. You get random charges each semester for their building projects (like the 'all funds were donated' chapel). The French teacher from Cameroon joked about beating his wife and deleted/manipulated online grades. In such a feminist college, you'd think he would be stopped, but they need those brownie points for having a token Black professor on campus. I loved some of my professors, but if I could do it all over, I would have run as fast as I could away from the nightmare that would be my 4 years here. Stuck. ***Check the not-recommended reviews. They were put there because they have one star. So I will put what I originally wrote and give it two stars. Hope it doesn't mysteriously disappear. I'm sure Wesleyan used to be a great place, but from my years there and what me and my classmates have witnessed, it has gotten very corrupt. I would recommend it to no one and am very sorry I chose the school as I have lost more money than estimated and feel like the education there is primarily learning how to fear students, faculty, and staff. I graduated because I could not transfer my credits out without losing over a year's worth of time and money. Yes, I am a graduate. During my time at Wesleyan I have seen: - Each semester the entire student body was fined erroneous charges of around $1,000 randomly during the semester. Students were never alerted to this and were always told it was due to 'government changes'... which is odd because it is a private school (tip: check your account every week because they will charge you randomly, will not tell you and will not let you finish the semester unless you pay). - Male professors (meaning more than one) have touched students and not been reprimanded. (As the faculty and staff said the students harassed shouldn't have shaved their legs or underarms). - More than one professor has said to their class that students cannot object when professors change grades of written tests based on their opinions of students because, "we (teachers) make the rules. If we don't like you or your attitude you'll never make a good grade." -Professors openly mock students in front of their classmates for asking questions (professors were not reprimanded when student reported it [not that the higher-ups dos anything once informed]). - Credits from officially Wesleyan approved study abroad programs have been rejected once money was paid ( non-refundable) and the study abroad was completed because the program 'was approved but did not give Wesleyan monetary benefit.' (Reference to the words of the study abroad faculty and staff). - A male French professor repeatedly tell his class that women are good for nothing but getting pregnant (professor was not reprimanded when students reported it). - A student who was sleeping with a married professor admit her actions when asked by the Dean (student was not reprimanded). - Because Wesleyan is private, most buildings are not handicap accessible and there are absolutely no students in wheelchairs or of limited mobility who were accepted to the school. The head history professor told her class, "handicapped people think they're special so they always ruin buildings with ramps." (Professor was not reprimanded). - Minority groups were ignored. Even after students asked for recognition, Black History Month was mocked regularly. Professors and students stated that LGBT history and women's history were the 'only' or 'most' important history months and all other minority groups needed to, as a professor stated, "learn their place." - Students who reported sexist and harassing professors to the faculty and staff were ignored and for some reason they got more charges on their accounts after their reports. (That's why students rarely report inappropriate behavior). -Student-on-student bullying has been reported repeatedly and has been ignored. - A student mocked by a professor in class because she shaved her legs. ( The students and professor said shaving 'makes you less of a woman' and 'a slave to the patriarchy). - Countless students expelled for being pregnant. The faculty said it looked bad for the alumni to see 'those kind of girls.' - The school regularly adds courses you must take to graduate so graduation is always pushed back as they do not grandfather people in when they change requirements. This means you are charged more than they estimate. They pass this off as policy or they deny the actions. - Students have been mocked by faculty and staff if they do not wish to further a career in women's studies. - The humanities, art, and (ironically human services related) departments do not entertain the idea of getting a steady job, rather they promote becoming 'famous' over a career in human services. - Events involving issues other than LGBT issues are optional but usually LGBT events are mandatory. - A student was reprimanded and fined because she remarked to a friend how she felt the mandatory symposium relating to how 'menstruation is empowerment' was 'kind of gross.' Do with this information what you will, but I wish I had never gone to Wesleyan. You may see positive reviews, but that's because the students were either very lucky or were themselves the bullies who made the school unpleasant. read more
