First, my apologies. I was catching up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while so forgot to take pics. Nonetheless my review is detailed and honest. My first time at West 122 as I had been wanting to try this for months. Here's the positives... Love the brick and mortar ambiance inside. It just had an overall good community vibe. Presentation of food was beautiful. What else we experienced... My friend ordered a Sprite and I ordered a cocktail. She was served a lemonade and my drink was pretty sour so I ordered some simple syrup. The Sprite came but it took 20 minutes to get my simple syrup. By that time I was sort of over having a cocktail. Honestly, the venue was not full and all I wanted was some simple syrup in a shot glass. We ordered the burrata, caesar salad and the special with the octopus tentacles, asparagus, peppers and capers over polenta. The caesar salad on the menu lists "red gem lettuce tossed in house-made caesar dressing, topped with bread crumbs and shaved parmigiano reggiano. While I liked the idea of not having croutons as they're sometimes difficult to maneuver with a biteful of salad, there must have been a quarter cup of bread crumbs over the top, so much so that you couldn't even see what was underneath. Next, the menu describes the burrata as "creamy burrata with pea vines, roasted peas, pickled asparagus, and artichoke." When it arrived, we were truly wondering if we had ordered the right thing. Only until we moved the sea of greens did we see the burrata. Nowhere on the menu did it mention that we were actually ordering a salad with burrata underneath. Very unfortunate and misleading because my friend ordered the Caesar for dinner and didn't know she was actually getting a second salad. In addition, we ordered the baguette with butter/oil and what came to us for $11 or some rather non descript rolls. The octopus special was the star of the show. The colors, flavors, char on the octopus...everything except that it was surrounded by a fair amount of paprika oil, so much so that I had to work around it in order to not give my stomach a run for my money later in the evening. A dish I wanted to finish but just couldn't because of that issue. In addition to that, refills of water were non-existent and it took close to 50 minutes to get our dinner. Also, our waitperson was very pleasant but seemed rather overwhelmed. Even after waiting 15 minutes for the simple syrup, when she finally did bring it, she looked surprised that I no longer wanted it. Yes, she took it off the bill, but I would have much rather enjoyed one of the specialties of the house. So many mishaps that didn't need to occur. A nice girls night here. That good ol Tacoma parking is a bitch. Once you're parked, you're good. The hostess was very nice and very attentive. She even provided us with recommendations on the menu. This lil spot in Tacoma, across from the matador is so cute. Honestly would've missed it driving by. Once you enter, it's very inviting. Has a nice chill ambiance to the place. Food was super delish. A tad on the higher priced side but totally yummy. My pork chop was HUGE!! Thick but well cooked! So much flavor through and through. Them zoodles my friend ordered was fabulous. We got 4 cocktails (2 gimlets, a greyhound, an Americano), duck fat fries, wedge salad, meatballs (we opted for just the meatballs instead of the meatballs with spaghetti so we could eat more), and then the braised octopus (which was perfectly tender on the inside and charbroiled on the outside) on very tasty cream corn w a side of arugula salad. I can't believe I went to bed without giving them their 10 stars. Beautiful experience from start to finish. We decided on a date night for Halloween and my wife found this restaurant online. She saw pictures of the steak and wanted to try it. We made it just in time for some specialty items that they serve between 3-6. We didn't think about reservations but got lucky enough that they weren't needed. I wouldn't suggest anyone else risk it. People came in fast even with the rain. The space is beautiful and romantic on the inside. All of the staff was so kind, especially Sara our server. We ordered two appetizers (crostini and Mac and cheese), two cocktails, two glasses of wine (doubble troubble), the steak, and the pork chop. In going to say something controversial so brace yourself. The pork chop beat out the steak by miles in taste and preparation. I'm not big on pork but I really wanted to try it and my goodness. Also, the appetizers were hard to part ways with. If more food wasn't on the way would have ate appetizers all night. DELICIOUS. We needed a new date night spot after the closing of one of our fav places. I think this is it. Oh, the parking probably depends on the day. We finally made it to West 122 and we loved it. Great ambiance, a good place for a date and the food and staff were awesome. We ordered the meatballs; the homemade meat sauce was on point and awesome, then for the main course porkchops and chicken. Porkchops were thick and plenty of flavor and not over-cooked and dry. They were great as well as the chicken. They also had a nice wine selection and their mixed were drinks were really good. I wish they had a fish selection on the menu, but at that time they did not. We got to chat with the executive chef, who was also making drinks, and super nice and knowledgeable guy. Overall, super pleased with our experience there and we will definitely have to revisit them. This might be on the top of my restaurants in the area. You definitely need to give them a whirl and don't forget the reservations!! read more

Went here with some friends to celebrate a birthday. A relatively new spot that was a Tiki bar in a previous life awhile back. The Diggs: the updates are well done with a nice look that is modern but not overdone. A good clean look. Pleasant from entrance to dining to restrooms Food: mixed bill. The brussel sprout appetizer was one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Savory but a slight sweet hint of honey although just a wine reduction. I would still be eating these if I could. Wedge salad is a meal or splittable. Classic and tasty although I wish the blue cheese was a bit stronger. Most of party enjoyed their meals. I had the pork chops with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Good seasoning but sadly overcooked and potatoes way too sweet. A disappointment Libations: every cocktail was excellent. Pretty good wine selection by glass or bottle as well. I had their version of French 75 and was exceptional. Great start to my dinner. Price. Reasonable for what would expect for a nicer restaurant. The front entrance looks nice, but we were seated in the back and it lacked any ambience. It was just plain tables, no artwork. The brussels sprouts were the only highlight, and even those were just okay. The zoodles and steak were underwhelming, we only ate half. When I asked about drinks, the server said they didn't have strawberry purée. For a bar, it felt surprising to have such limited flavor options, especially for sweeter drinks. Went here for an early dinner on a Friday night. I'd previously been to this restaurant at the end of last year and it was great! Once we arrived though I learned they had made several changes. The good: the drinks were great, and service was excellent! My husband enjoyed the pork chop. The bad: My chicken was fairly dry and over seasoned. The whipped potatoes were almost inedible and had the texture of almost dry Mod Podge. The appetizers were only okay, and in my opinion overpriced. The calamari appetizer was great but the bread was pretty mid and they charge an extra $1 for butter. Seriously. The meatballs were okay and seasoned well but they were overworked and tasted a little gamey. My date ordered a custom, but not complicated, cocktail that our server refused to ask the bartender to mix. Eventually the bartender overheard the request and made it. It was delicious and we ordered another round. We elected to bounce before we went on to order any mains. I had such high hopes!! Everything was phenomenal and FRESH!! Beet Salad was impeccable with perfectly candies walnuts that weren't too sweet or too sticky! The goat cheese was a solid flavor but not overpowering the beets with a mild, refreshing earthy flavor! Mac N Cheese was excellent, the cavatappi noodles were cooked perfectly Al Dente, with a modicum amount of chew, and the Mornay sauce was velvety and clearly made from scratch from a roux! The crab cakes were LOADED with crab and the old bay rolemoulade wasn't overly salty and slightly spicy! The crab cakes were NOT overly coated with a nice this crispy batter! The Tiramisu was awesome, a solid coffee flavor that isn't overbearing and the mascarpone cream was delightful thick and creamy, delicious! The young and beautiful drink was equal parts sweet and tangy with an excellent fizzy pop reminiscent of soda but not overly sweet. I will be back!!! read more

What a disappointment!!! Went here before a show at the Pantages (7:30pm). Had a 5:30pm reservation. Shocked that this place has a 4+ star review but noticed most of the 5 stars are from months ago. Did chef change, I wonder? Service staff turnover? The ambience of this place is awesome and I couldn't help wonder how a better chef and higher quality cuisine could really make this a potentially local gem like Wooden City or others in the vicinity. Honestly surprised this restaurant has been in business this long. Thought it was brand new based on our experience. Everyone seemed like a complete novice to fine dining service. Waited 10 minutes for a wait server and no one noticed we didn't have a drink menu until then. However, I think the cuisine itself was the biggest flop and why we'll probably not return as much as I want to support local restaurants bc it was a pretty expensive gamble. Mac and cheese (difficult to mess up) was the highlight but no better than what you could get from a much lower tier establishment or food truck. Caesar was so inundated with bread crumbs and shaved Parmesan I could not get to the salad. Steak frites was the worst steak (chewy, no flavor), frites (think old stale fries with some parsley sprinkled on them), and au poivre (just a super salty, unflavored brown sauce) I've ever had and I've had my share of steak frites in US, Canada, France, and Switzerland. My partner had the roast chicken which was bland and nothing special. Charred broccolini was okay. We held out hope for coffee and dessert, but they forgot about us and by the time they returned 20 mins later, we needed to leave for the show. It was already 7:20pm. I really hope this was an anomalous experience but won't be returning any time soon. read more

I have gone to Tacoma while my kid has been in school there and have really enjoyed trying many of the restaurants. I didn't know about West 122 until this last visit. It was walking distance from the McMenimims Elks Temple (tho there is a hill...) on a somewhat lively street with a few bars and restaurants. Lovely decor/ambiance. Very cozy as a storm was coming in. I was alone and sat at the bar and bless that bartender for letting me yammer. His take on the Manhattan was really delicious and different enough, but not over the top. I had two! Great happy hour appetizers: Mac and cheese was excellent, loved the meatballs and the cauliflower made me feel "healthy." I'd go back. I found this place through a tik tok link actually that my Mom sent to me. I was def interested and the hubby and I checked this place out. The service provided by David was top notch! The food was INCREDIBLE! We got to savor the schnitzel and it was delish. My hubby is German and I asked him how close is this to what he grew up with? Pretty close were his words. We enjoyed this dish, a couple aperols and I had a dilly dally cocktail which was very good if ya like drinks a lil stronger. For dessert we had the apple pudding cake which was quite fine too. For starters, we shared the Brussels sprouts and added bacon. They were cooked crispy - perfectly to our liking. Plenty for 4 of us to share! My daughter and I had the steak and it was fabulous! We came in for 6:00 reservations which we thought would give us plenty of time to make a 7:30 show. But we were soooo wrong. It took quite a few minutes to get seated which gave us a chance to soak in the nautical ambiance. The pass through to the back tables is very reminiscent of a ship's hold. We ordered a hot tea and a bramblin on when our server appeared very promptly. The menu looked great and it was hard to settle on an entree selection, fortunately we had plenty of time to ruminate. We started with the great northern bean purée. Our drinks arrived quickly. The bramblin on was fantastic! It seemed to take a while for plates to make their way out. We waited over 20 minutes for our appetizer to make its way to the table from the kitchen. Our server stopped by to apologize, noting that they got very busy. We did go ahead and put our entree orders in since we had a show to get to. We went with the roasted butternut squash and goat cheese ravioli and the roast chicken with apple cider jus. The purée is a great appetizer - very flavorful. We finished with the provided spoon once we ran out of dipping veggies and crostini. By 7:00 we still hadn't seen any entrees. Nor had we received any water refills during that hour. Our first water refill arrived at 7:02. We asked when our water was finally refilled when our entrees would be arriving and we're told ours were the next up. But that didn't really provide us with a timeline. By 7:09 I had to let our server know that if our food was ready in the next five minutes we would have to have it boxed to go and if it didn't arrive she would just have to bring us a check and we'd come by another time. Our food came out at 7:12 but not boxed like we asked. We had to immediately hand it back and ask, again, for it to be boxed. They did comp half of the entree cost since we were unable to eat our food before our show - which was very nice. The waiter when checked us out said that "everyone has to be at the show" and laughed at us. That was pretty rude given our experience. I'd like to recommend the restaurant, the food might be good if I ever get to eat it, but given our experience it would be criminal to do so. read more

We recently dined at West 122 and left disappointed. At $98 per person before drinks and tip, we expected a polished fine dining experience. Instead, the evening felt disorganized and underwhelming. When we arrived, there was confusion regarding our reservation, and it took additional time to sort out before we were seated. While we were eventually seated, the situation reflected a lack of organization from the start. Throughout dinner, we had to ask for utensils multiple times. The food itself wasn't terrible, but it wasn't impressive either. Several dishes came out warm rather than hot, and the flavors were average. Nothing stood out or justified the price point. The reservation also didn't clearly state that the menu was fixed, which felt misleading. For nearly $300 for two people, the experience simply didn't reflect fine dining in terms of service, execution, or value. For what was meant to be our first experience with West 122, the evening was disappointing enough that we have no interest in giving it a second chance. read more

We had date night here tonight and it was our first time in. For starters, I loved the interior decor. It's rustic and lovely. The service was wonderful. Had a server named Ben and he was just awesome and helpful. I had a pasta dish that was was one of two specials for the evening. It was delicious and the perfect amount of food. My BF had the flatiron and also really liked it. We normally share a dessert but we splurged and ordered two (That's how many they offer) and also ordered coffees. Both desserts were really delish. We had to take half of the bread pudding home it was so large. The coffee comes in your own personal French press and is wonderful. All in all, this was a really good meal in a great atmosphere. This was our second time dining at West 122 and I have to say it was a bit disappointing. We arrived in time for happy hour and ordered drinks off the discounted menu. For our second round, we all ordered before the happy hour ended, however, our waitress did not enter them in time which resulted in us paying the full price. I have never had this happen and felt it was so odd that she couldn't honor the fact that we ordered in time and it was her mistake. For the price point, the food is not great. We had the zoodles which were priced at $27, the steak, and the pork chop special. Everyone in our party was less than impressed with our dishes, unfortunately.
